TRULY AMAZING practice!!!! 10/2/2010

This is a truly amazing place!!! I trust them more than I trust my own doctors. I have a 2 month old puppy (my first dog ever) and he is always getting in trouble banging his head here and there when playing. Because he's my first dog I am an extremely overprotective mother who get really nervous when he's getting in trouble or acting like he's sick.... Im amazed as to how much patience and compassion Dr Mattu has for both my baby and me (I always ask A LOT of questions). He is gentle touch with him, they just met last week and my puppy is usually distrusting with new people but as soon as dr Mattu put my puppy on his hands my baby melted and was nothing but loving I was truly amazed at that! Dr Mattu even joked around "we must have known each other from a previous life." Today I called Dr Mattu extremely anxious because my puppy seemed lowed energy after a fall, dr Mattu squeezed me into his tight schedule himself and was kind enough to stay on the phone with me for a bit and calm me more

Excellent Diagnostician, Compassionate and Reasonable 1/11/2010

I highly recommend Dr. Matu at Universary Veterinary Hospital. He is very experienced - not one of the "new graduate" types, but absolutely current with an amazing ability to diagnose even the most complicated situations.  I trust him with our cat and dog "family members" in the same way I trust my own doctors. He is open to hear what we say and is a good listener who combines what we tell him with his clinical observations and knowledge.  \r I've seen many Vets and vet facilities as we've lived around the state and country. Some more high tech, some that specialize in surgery or other things, and it sometimes feels like when you go there every problem looks like a "nail" and whatever their specialty - the right "hammer".  Not so at University Veterinary Hospital. They have the emergency diagnostic tools to get answers "right now" when time really counts, but this is truly a Family Practice, so your bill isn't loaded with  the high overhead costs of, for example, a surgical specialt more

The Cat's Meow 6/22/2005

University Veterinary Hospital is located on University Ave close to the freeway. Most people choose their vets based on proximity, because when your cat snarfs some string, you want to get that taken care of ASAP. If you're in the West Berkeley area, this is a very good facility for your pets. The vets and vet techs do seem to genuinely care about the animals, and the costs are not astronomical. University Vet also participates in the Berkeley low-cost spay/neuter program. I recently had a feral fixed there and he broke loose and nearly tore up their waiting room. I feel like I owe them some props for being great sports about that. more

  • University Veterinary Hospital is a full service facility that provides high quality and thorough medical care to dogs and cats. Our staff is highly skilled, yet very compassionate and caring. Every member of our team understands that pets are part of your family and should be treated as such with compassion and delicacy. Our services include taking care of lameness, bone fractures, hip and knee problems, skin and ear issues, eye problems, behavioral issues and urinary issues. Our emphasis is to provide customized vaccinations (not every pet needs vaccines every year) and preventive medicine with a goal to not only prolong but strengthen your pets bond with your human family members. University Veterinary Hospital is conveniently located at 810 University Ave, right off the freeway 80. Being close to the freeway without the obstruction of traffic lights, we are proud to serve clients from as far as Hercules and Pinole to Oakland, Clairemont, Alameda and all the cities in between. Beside all local clients from Berkeley, El Cerrito, Albany, Emeryville, we are frequently told that it is easier and faster to get to our facility than to get to the nearest Vet in client's own town. Our facility is maintained nicely with the comfort and ease of people and their pets in mind. We are proud to offer the latest in technology (Like x rays, in house blood test machines for immediate reports when every minute counts, video scopes for deeper ear, nose and throat exams, a state of the art dental suite and dental x ray to provide ultimate dental care for the pets and get them out of the silent sufferings of tooth root infections that remain hidden from outside visual exams. We have our own parking lot in the back of our building.
