A couple things to note... 4/13/2006

1. We aren't Penn State. I don't even mean this in the negative sense - I happen to be rather fond of Penn State, with good memories of a summer spent there and many friends who love their school. However, we're located in University City not State College and we've Quakers not Lions. (also see #4) 2. Wharton isn't the be all and end all of Penn. Yes, they've more money than they know what to do with and they're awfully famous (and perhaps a tiny bit evil, they never say). But people actually do major in other things here - law, medicine? How about actual humanties courses? Yup! 3. No, it's not as dangerous as it looks - keep your wits about you, and don't do anything silly. But the location is great for getting into Center City - if you like. 4. And, as a note to a friend of mine that didn't know otherwise, this is the sports powerhouse (and member) of the Ivy League. 5. Honestly, it's a great place to go to school :) more

U Penn 4/13/2006

Quite a nice school. Ivy Leauge-y and all that. It's located nicely - you can get to New York easily by rail and there is a great church (St. Mark's) nearby. The students can sometimes be annoyingly wealthy, but it's not too bad. The area isn't inherently very safe but there is tons and tons of security. A fantastic place to be a linguist. more

Ivy League University in West Philly 8/18/2005

University of Pennsylvania is a locally famous (or infamous) member of the Ivy League in Philadelphia. It is the nation's oldest university with the first medical school. Its particular strengths include its medical school, Wharton for business types, its law school, the veterinary school, and its hospital system. It also has world-class libraries like Van Pelt. Unfortunately, security considerations make much, if not all, of the campus inaccessible to visitors who cannot usually enter buildings or must enter during business hours and sign-in. In particular, the "LOVE" statue in the central walkway is featured on postcards sold throughout the city. more
