I have been working with Universal Floors since around 1999 on numerous jobs. I have found them to be the most professional flooring company I have ever dealt with. If I have a job that requires hard wood flooring, I am going to use Universal Floors. I have a lot of work that requires matching old flooring or other very intricate, detailed things, and I have done a lot of high end projects with Universal Floors. We just did a condominium build out with medallions and difficult color stains. They are excellent. I don't think you can find a more professional company. I am a contractor and I have been working with Universal Floors for 15 years. I would not continue to use them if their work was not of a high standard. They are also very responsive. Installing hardwood floors can be such a disruption, but with Universal it was a pleasure! 10/20/2010

From my first phone call with Tim, I felt that our home would be in good hands. We installed hardwood floors throughout and they turned out beautifully. Every step was handled with professionalism and quality. The floors are a work of art, especially in the stain, thank you Rick and even though we have a small punch list to complete, I know that Tim will make sure that all is done to perfection! We have been in business for 27 years and have never felt the need to change flooring contractors. Wish I could say the same about my other subs. Always prompt clean service. more

Overall excellent job 10/19/2010

Our only comment would be that one piece of oak flooring was installed in a highly visible location and was much lighter that than the rest of the wood. This was subsequently darkened, but is still noticeable and disturbing. more

They know what they are doing and they are very reliable 10/19/2010

South is wonderful and on top of everything. At times, some of the workers did some work that had to be redone. However, there was no problem with them coming back to correct the mistakes. more

Great experience from start to finish 10/15/2010

We selected Universal Floors to install new hardwood floors in place of carpet in my grandmother's home in Bethesda. It was a great experience - they came out to do the estimate and were very professional and patient with our questions. They showed up on time, did beautiful work and followed through on every promise. I will definitely recommend them to my friends in DC! more

We had a knowledgeable sales person who came in from Universal Floors to look at our floors. He didn't try to sell me anything special and knew what I needed. I have old, damaged floors, but they are a special type of pine floors that we have in DC. They needed some tender love and care. I was very pleased with his service, and he gave a reasonable bid. We were also able to schedule the service quickly. The floors came out beautifully. They really look fantastic. We selected a nice stain and used a tung oil finish. They did a very good job. The only thing is the communication with the business office once the bid had gone in could have been better. I felt disconnected from them and the workers who showed up. It would have been nice to have a better outline of when they were coming, the names of the workers, and what to expect every day. It would also be nice to have received maintenance tips and a follow up visit. more

Excellent Job! 10/15/2010

Universal Floors refinished the hard wood floors upstairs in our 1940's home and the results are beautiful! They arrived on time, they were very careful with our furniture, they cleaned up very carefully at the end of each day, and they left with beautiful results. I would definitely use them again. more

When a historic home or building is slated for demolition, Universal Floors removes the antique floors, stores them until they are needed and keeps them out of the landfill. These old bones are sorted, cleaned and bundled for the next repair or historic restoration project. Our “choose to reuse” approach gives a second life to the valuable wood. Many of the finest homes and historic buildings are graced with our salvaged wood. This wood can be cut into creative and historic patterns or installed in a straight run.
