United States Post Office

When I moved recently, I dutifully filled in a change of address form. Since then only about half of my mail is being forwarded to me. I stopped by the Wallingford post office today because the folks at my old address are tired of sending the other half to me. I thought it would be a quick stop. I didn't think my experience there would ruin the rest of my day. The person behind the counter was surprisingly rude, and weirdly accusatory. She spoke to me as if I were bothering her. When I stepped aside to fill in a form, she complained to the next customer that they have to do a lot of "hand-holding" of the customers there. I can only wish that my experience had been more like hand-holding. In short, I still don't know if the problem has been fixed. I'm never going there again. more

It's probably debatable whether this location is in Greenlake proper or on the Greenlake / Wallingford border, but the neighborhood post office lies just off Stone Way, about a block north of 45th. Just look for the 7-Eleven and you can't miss it - it's located directly behind it (to the East). There are a few parking places right in front, and a decent-sized lot directly across the street. This lot also ha a "drive and drop" mailbox for letter-sized packages, so you don't even have to get out of your car to get something in the mail. more

Holy moly is this a good added service from the US Postal Service at the Wallingford Branch -- 46th just east of Stone Way: 24-hour automated package handling. They have this slick little machine they've installed with a scale, automated calculation of postage required, postage sticker printer, drop box, and it takes credit card payment with a quick swipe. No reason to wait in line again -- go anytime. more
