Beautiful food, beautiful delivery 8/26/2005

I had an absolutely terrific dining experience at Union. The service was impeccable - present but not intrusive, and the food was divine. From the ahi tuna tartare amuse to the burrata salad to the perfectly cooked (and seasoned) halibut with lentils and ham hock, everything was a delight to eat. Be prepared for a more urban-chic setting. So what if the servers wear jeans...if you can be yourself at a restaurant, what's the difference? more

Overrated 8/10/2005

Union is overrated. After hearing and reading about great reviews, my husband and I decided to give this restaurant a try for our anniversary. Not the best dining experience. The service was horrible from the minute we walked in the door. It didn't seem like any of them cared about our dining experience. And I was shocked at how the servers were dressed - in jeans and polo shirts with a white apron tied around their waist. This isn't the local pizza parlor. The food was pretty good, but it wasn't blow-me-away-good-that I want to eat here again good. Overrated. more

A nice meal but bit too fast-paced 4/8/2005

5 April 2005/ dining alone. i ordered the tasting menu plus wine accopompaniments. overall a very goog meal. i would have enjoyed my meal if it had arrived in a less-rushed manner. as a complete carnivore the dishes that won acclaim this evening were veggies: the cool asparagus soup was lovely and had all the the essence of fresh asparagus; the english pea ravioli was crisp, fresh, sweet and quite liht yet savory at the same tme. However, I was quite looking forward to the meat entrees. The tuna loin was a bit overpowered by the olive tapenade. The following course of beef tenderloin, grilled with hollandiase and aspargus was incredibly overcooked. the espresso pot de creme was ridiculouysly dense and lovely. The wine pairings were sub-par. For 45$ I would much rather order a great split than have the average, primarliy white-centric north american wines on offer. Pros: great foodstuffs Cons: short time btx course more

Rich flavors in a cool, yet intimate setting 3/3/2005

Union is a suprisingly consistent exponent of the "new new cuisine" that specializes in small plates featuring fresh ingredients and intense flavors, all presented with quite a bit of originality and elegance. The atmosphere is postmodern "cool" but the lighting, music and color palette create an intimacy often missing in contemporary restaurants. Definitely not a "family" restaurant or for those seeking Cheesecake Factory portions of ultimately forgettable fare. Pros: Ambience, Flavors, Originality Cons: Smoking in Bar, Pricey, Location more

Loved everything!!!!!!!! 11/26/2004

Since I had to work on Thanksgiving serving other people, I was really excited about going out the following evening for a nice dinner. Union was exactly where I wanted to be. The service was gracious yet non-invasive. The wine list was good without being overwhelming in size. The food was fantastic!! Started with anchovy salad & beef tartare. The beef is minced with cornichons & capers and comes with a bit of brioche on the side. The foie gras was heavenly with small chunks of sweet butternut squash. Our entree of scallops was perfectly cooked and delicately seasoned with a yummy celery root puree on the side. I thought the portion sizes were perfect. We had a really great overall experience at Union. I would highly recommend. Pros: food,, food,, food more

Great tasting menu! 11/4/2004

After sampling the tasting menu myself, I am also baffled by a previous review. While the courses were not as adventuresome as I would have liked, they were all executed. Also did the wine pairings for the dinner, which were well selected. Both the tasting menu and wine pairings are very well priced. The dining room, while nice, had a corporate feel to it. BUT, the food really shines here. Pros: Food, Tasting Menu, Value more

Get Treated! 8/23/2004

The tasting menu is a wonderful dining experience - go the whole hog and spring for the accompanying wines. Lots and lots of excellent service that managed to be personable and low-key rather than fawning. A delightful dining experience. How the previous reviewer could not have liked any of their courses is beyond me - we loved about half, liked the rest, and were unenthused about only one. Pros: Service, Variety, Wines more

Elegant Modern Foods 7/17/2004

They have a very well-trained chefs. Food: "Looks and Tastes Great" For the price you are paying... Its not a bad deal. The menu sampler is my favourite, as it comes with dishes from appetizer, entree to dessert (about 5 courses). After you enjoyed the appetizer, you will very much anticipate for the next course. Food comes in a stylish white plates with a great showcase presentation. It is a good place for a date. If you order the sampler menu, you'll be expected to dine longer. BUT Its worth the time. Outstanding service. Pros: Ambience, Great Bar & Restaurant and Service Cons: Parking more

Breaking the Waves 7/5/2004

If you want to experience culinary accuity in Seattle, this is the right place. Gallery ambience with an inventive wine list, this NW bistro is a favorite watering hole for those in the know. The fleeting daily menu sweet-talked me into skate wing aloft brown-butter favas & a citadel of Dungeness crab ensconced with vine-ripened pepper cream. If you like the sounds of something get it, their fresh list is so fresh, it might not be there tomorrow. More gracious than I expected with a tasting menu that's a great epicurean value. Spend a lot, spend a little! They'll still treat you well... Go! Pros: Location, location, Amazing cocktails, Beautifully seasonal Cons: , Dinner splurge, Parking? more
