When compared to Manley or Alpha, Union Heights does look a bit worn. It's probably one of the oldest schools in Hamblen County. On the inside, though, it's completely different. The building is bright, with lots of light and lots of color. The teachers here are excellent. They get to know your children and not only teach them, but challenge them to learn and to dream. The school has a few PTA events, which offer just enough time for parents to meet each other and create more of a sense of community. The playground equipment is also great. You can drive by in the afternoon and see all the kids out enjoying it. The school also has a very organized method of dropping off and picking up children, making sure the youngsters are never left unattended and never get into an unknown car. The rules are reasonable. The principle offers both the understanding and the discipline needed to run a successful school. The school also offers lots of activities. There are plenty of sports including basketball and cheerleading. There are just as many activities to exercise the brain. The school always fields a great scholar bowl team, has a Beta club and holds a lot of poster or essay contests.
