We absolutely love this place. The fish is very fresh and plenty of choices to chose from. You have to try the Godzilla Roll! Lots of parking, great service although a little on the slow side so don't go when you're starving like we always seem to do. This will be the best Japanese restaurant you will ever go to in your life! My group of friends and I have been eating here at least once a month since the restaurant opens a few years ago. The sushi rolls are by far the most unique and best tasting rolls you will find anywhere in the Bay Area. The service is also excellent. The chef and the staff are very friendly and make the dining experience very personal and enjoyable. I recommend this place to everyone who's is looking for a great meal and dining experience Pros: An all around great dining experience Cons: Leaves you wishing you could eat this good every day more

I have have had sushi all around the world (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc..) and in addition I have also tried nearly all of the sushi establishments in San Jose and the surrounding areas and UMI is the best. Owner and Chef Hee Kim has created an enviroment that even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy. Pros: VERY FRESH, friendly, great value Cons: None! more

This place is really fantastic! I didn't know what to expect because I hadn't heard much about it. The sushi selection is great, much more than other sushi places I've been too. A lot of specials and they are priced very reasonably! Service was quick and friendly. I recommend getting the Hurricane and Godzilla. They sure did give a lot of fish. MMMM melts in your mouth good. Umi Sushi provided myself and my friends with the greatest sushi dinning experience imaginable, with great food, atmosphere, service, and the personality of the staff all made it an experience to remember. I will deffinatley be returning to Umi again for another great outting. more

There was nothing not to love about this place! I went there with a group of friends and sat at the bar and about 20 rolls later we were set! Both of the Sushi Chefs were very interested in how our food was and gave us a freebie at the end (a definite plus in my book!) They also stayed well past closing to make sure we enjoyed our meal! If you love sushi, sake, and a fun time this place is for you! My husband and our friends frequent this restaurant at least once a week since we have found it. The sushi is excellent, some of the best fish we have ever had, it is amazingly fresh. The rolls are wonderful with fantastic sauces that are tasty and not at all heavy. Our favorites are the Arizona roll (yellow tail sushi with this spicy sauce), the hurricane roll and their Tuna Taka which is thin slices of seared ahi with this amazing sauce, I have no idea what is in it, but it is fantastic. The restaurant is very warm and they also have great food as well but we usually stick to the sushi!!! Truly a great find in the south bay!! more

Umi Sushi has the best sushi in San Jose. As someone who has been eating sushi for over twenty years, this is one of the best!! The fish is very fresh and practically melts in your mouth. The rolls are creative, delicious and made with great care and are a wonderful creation of taste and spice. The chef (Hee) is very friendly and has many different types of Sake that he can educate you on! The wait staff is fantastic as well and you never have to ask twice for anything. Our favorite rolls are: Pink Dragon, Cherry Blossom, Green Dragon, and their special Dill Salmon! Also you can't go wrong with the Almaden Special Tuna Roll, a unique combination of spicy tuna, tuna and this amazing sauce with dill and garlic.
