ZERO STARS!!! On August 10, 2013, I fell in love with a yorkie they brought up from the basement and bought him right there and then. As i was leaving, they handed me a plastic bag with two containers, one with a white liquid and another with a pink one. When I asked what they were for, the guy said they were antibiotics for a cold. One week later, I had to rush the poor dog to Pearl Animal Hospital in Forest Hills and he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. The vet at the hospital said that it surely had a bad case of kennel cough but since it is still a puppy and does not have a fully formed immune system, it developed into full blown pneumonia. I went back to the store to complain and was told I was crazy and that the puppy was healthy when I bought it. They even lied and said they give all the animals they sell the antibiotics which the vet at the hospital said was unheard of and proved that the dog was already sick when I bought it. Now my poor baby which I bought for 1500 is in the hospital which of course charged another 2200 as deposit for all the needed tests. I paid it as I just want my baby back and healthy. I will certainly do whatever I can to recover some of that money back as the Lemon Pet Law of New York State says that if you get a certificate from the vet within 14 days of sale that says the dog was unfit for sale when you bought it, which in this case it certainly was, you can get the full cost of the price you paid for the dog refunded to you and still more

For birds (cockatiels and parakeets) I think they are good. My cockatiel was lovely, very lively and easy to train--clearly she'd been well cared for by the breeder, and I am almost certain the owner breeds cockatiels. \r \r After 8 happy years, she passed away, likely because of something to do with egg-laying, but she hadn't seemed sickly, and I was very sad. \r \r I just got a baby parakeet, and it died over night. :( \r I will return today, and ask them to give me a new one. I agree that the place is run like an old-time mafia-front, but I believe that the birds are healthy and the new parakeet was probably too cold last night. I hope that they will be kind and give me a new one without charging again. more

This place is horrendous. I am amazed that it hasn't been shut down. There are numerous complaints already made and the owner and staff all look like complete thugs, gold teeth and all. The animals look obviously unwell, bored and filthy. Several of the puppies could barely life their heads and were unresponsive to people. I saw one that was on the bottom far right that was breathing unevenly and was sitting in his own feces. Its disturbing... No animals should have to live like that and is place is profiting off of their misery. PLEASE STAY AWAY. You're much better off getting your furry friend from a breeder or shelter, like I did. With US Pet you're taking a great chance of spending thousands of dollars on your new dog because it'll probably be severely sick after just a few days. Don't waste your money here! more

The people who own and run this store should be in jail along with most of their employees. the animals are malnourished, the dogs are sick, and the small animals are not taken care of. The rabbits had no food, no hay, and no water. when I complained about it, one of the employees physically assaulted . Had to call the police. And the owner started making racist remarks at me. and some of it was said in front of the police. added my complaint to the list of complaints already logged against this pet store with the ASPCA. more

We had researched rescuing a dog but it hadn't worked out. When we passed by US Pets, we fell in love with our lil Joey. This pet shop was defnitely overpriced for what we had to spend to take care of our dog after. The shady vet that has a partnerhsip with the store failed to notice he had a severe ear infection, eventhough they checked his ears. In addition, they didn't provide the proper after care for his vaccinations so we had to take him to another vet for both the infection and the bad reaction. We love our dog but I wouldn't advise someone to by from US Pets. more

My beloved 12 year old minnie passed away six months ago and I was skeptical about getting a new dog because she was such a great dog and I knew I couldn't replace her. I live in Astoria and I would buy my dog food at uspet, They have been here for as long as I have moved into the neighborhood 8 years ago and they have always been very nice and friendly and even gave minnie free bones when i would bring her in. I was finally ready to buy a puppy and my friend had recommended that I go there, She got the cutest maltese from them and has never had any health problems. So i went to them and after browsing there salesman Will found me the cutest little yorkie. He gave me a free five year health plan and a family tree so I can see all the ancestry. My puppy missy is not a puppy mill dog and the reason i know this is because I have spoke to the breeder several times and we have even exchanged pictures. Pros: Healthy Cute Puppies. Friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Cons: Too many nice puppies to choose from!! more

The puppies in this place are for the most part unhealthy and straight from a puppy mill. Even though they might tell you they're from a breeder, most ""contractors"" in missouri, iowa (wherever most of their dogs come from), are actually puppy mills where dogs are kept in horrific conditions subject to a life of giving birth until they can no longer, at which point they're put to sleep. The dogs are dirty, unkempt and from many accounts have various conditions. They don't even let their dogs out to exercise or socialize. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!! Even if you think you're ""saving"" a dog, all you're doing is creating another empty cage to be replaced by another dog and you're putting money in their pocket. If you want a purebred, get one from a breeder where you can actually see where the dog is kept and where you get a REAL contract in case something is wrong. I got my purebred pug puppy from a breeder for only 500, so there are cheaper breeders out there. The BEST thing you could do for these poor cute puppies is stay as far away from US PETS and put them out of business. Cons: Stinky, diseased, straight from a puppy mill more

I would like to express my total disgust and hatred for the US Pet store on Steinway Street. I went in to the store around the same time as the last reviewer in the second week of March 08. I found a dog and bought it on a whim. Pros: NOTHING! Cons: Animals are sick, Treated badly, They Lie about Breed Age and Health of Animals, HORRIBLE STAFF more

I bought my dog fromUS Pet and he was a super sweet dog, he looked a little unkempt but we figured he was in a pet store and he is a white malte-poo so it seemed normal. He was very quiet, but again we chalked it up to being skittish around people. Still he seemed so sweet and loving and he had a look on his face that said 'save me' Pros: Some of the guys working there are quite nice Cons: Sick pets, not honest in describing the animal, overall bad animal care more
