Great food, server and hostess polite, remaining staff RUDE! 7/14/2011

Had early pre-dance program dinner Thurs night. We arrived at 525pm without reservations and were accomodated nicely for a table of 5. While we were waiting for a table, I asked the bartender for a mixed drink using the fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice I was told they had. He made an obnoxious face and said ""well what do you want with it?"" I smiled and said ""be creative-its so warm out and cold would be good!"" He continued to roll his eyes to a server standing near the bar. I then explained to him that we had had a sort of grapefruit martini and could he do that, another mumbled rude comment to server at bar and so I sat down, figuring we weren't going to get drinks!! I then found a grapefruit special drink on their menu and asked for three of those!! 20 minutes went by after we were seated, as we were ordering our appetizers at our table and still no drinks. We were told that the bartender (a misnomer for sure!) was ""busy"". There were 4 people at the bar and they all had drinks. I told our server that we wanted the drinks ""before"" dinner and would like wine with dinner and if they weren't at our table now, he (the misnamed bartender)could drink them. Another 10 minutes and they arrived. Ordinarily, I would have sent them back, but I didn't want to spoil the mood of evening, meeting up with friends, 2 of whom are in the restaurant business in New York and West Hampton!!!!!! \r We proceeded to have a very good dinner, and server. But the desserts were the best!! more

Props on the exotic menu 10/3/2010

They have some really fun and tasty things on the menu. My girl and I got the opportunity to try sweet breads and it was a good dish. The server was a little young and underexperienced and we could only try the beer week beers if we got the prefix special. I encourage you to check it out. more

LOVED IT 8/12/2010

We came back here after a long absence. We had always liked the food, but found the service too quirky. That seems to be a thing of the past. And the food is even better. The ""cutting board"" was over the top wonderful, the soup, delicious, and everything else was just terrific. The manager actually talked us out of a more expensive wine, because the cheaper one was better. Had us taste them both, too, just to prove it. We were too full for dessert, but boy did they look good. more

Friendly, warm and delicious 3/13/2010

We were here on Valentine's day. We did not have a reservation but they found a table and got us seated quickly. The food was amazing. I ordered two appetizers - a pasta and salad - and both were wonderful-- really fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is great. Pros: Excellent Food more

Excellent Food!! 11/15/2008

Excellent ! Excellent ! Excellent !\r \r This place is quite pricey, but it's definitely worth the $$$$.\r Great... I mean... Excellent food !\r \r Pros: food, service more

Terrible service 9/10/2008

Bad service. Staff sitting at the small bar using up the space on a Friday night. Bartender tried hard enough, but manager was surly and nasty, as if she was doing us a favor by allowing us to be there. Drinks? Eh. Expensive and trendy. The experience was so unpleasant it's hard to comment on the food -- edible if you can stomach the hauty attitude and the atmosphere of ""we are too cool for you."" Pros: Good selection of cheese Cons: Surly staff, noisy, never ever go with more than 2 people more

Staff owned restaurant 3/9/2008

Food is fine, staff can be unprofessional, and at times incompetent. Often off duty staff remains at the bar. Pros: food Cons: staff more

Surprisingly limited entrees, and not cheap. 2/3/2008

Felt misled by some reviews. Few choices for entrees. Highly vaunted lamb was three small pieces, tender and with tiny amount of greens. Sides are extra, making main course expensive. Wine was poured to 1/3 glass capacity. We are middle aged and were seated all the way in the rear, although plenty of empty tables in front and middle. The front was filled with glitzy younge folk when we left. An experience that doesn't bear repeating more

Bistro Flare 3/5/2007

What a discovery! This Chelsea bistro offered a wonderful introduction into the possibilities of Swiss-American cuisine. Trestle's fresh combinations of meats and cheeses, fish and greens created a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Great atmosphere too....enough energy to feel like a night out, but cozy enough to engage in an intimate conversation. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service more

delicious! 3/3/2007

a friend and i ate here saturday night, and the food was amazing -- subtle and deep. we started with the cheese and meat selection, which included a memorable fan-shaped swiss cheese. for the main course, we each had a fish, perfectly tender and moist, dressed with savory sauces... and for dessert, we highly recommend the stout chocolate cake, which was to die for. the ambience was intimate, warm, and humming with guests, perfect for an evening of romance or a long-belated conversation with a close friend. more

A bit disappointed 2/25/2007

Went to Trestle On Tenth because I have never had Swiss cuisine before. They have a great wine list and my server was very friendly and knowledgeable. But I was somewhat disappointed to find that most of the dishes are the usual American cuisine. I was hoping for more Swiss influence in the dishes than they have. The atmosphere is nice and casual. I had salmon for my entree, and I thought it was cooked perfectly. Overall it's pretty good, but I probably won't recommend it too highly to others. Pros: Good wine list and helpful staff Cons: Average food more

Good Neighborhood Spot 11/26/2006

Nice to have an unpretentious restaurant in Chelsea that still serves good food and isn't a scene. The service is welcoming and the room comfortable if a bit sparse. I prefer the garden when it's warm. Food is generally very good though this is a meat eater's place. My sides were a bit disappointing but the mains usually are very good. Good wine program too. Pros: Good neighborhood spot, Warm Service more

Refreshing main dishes, best sorbets ever! 10/31/2006

Pleasant atmosphere, modern but rustic decor. Great welcoming service helped with the annoyance of having to wait for a table. Appetizers not particuarly interesting, Good main courses, especially lamb. BEST sorbet flavours I've had anywhere - powerful, fresh, natural homemade sorbets were the highlight of the meal! Pros: Great desserts, Get the sorbet trio! Cons: Waiting despite reservation, not the most interesting main dishes more

cozy spot 10/25/2006

This is a great cozy spot. I went the otehr night and teh place aws crowded and I had no reservation so waited about 20 minutes. It is very cozy with a nice eclectic crowd both gay and artsy. The food is very simple comfort but nice. You don't leave feeling gross satisfied like you ate at mom's. It won't be your best meal ever but you'll be very happy and reasonable prices make it a recommend. Pros: cozy and nice service Cons: wines by the glass a bit weak more

Best crepinette of pork; Wonderful bartenders 9/8/2006

I've eaten at Trestle 3 times now and, quite frankly, it gets better every time. The menu keeps changing (I think 3 times now!) and its only been open 6 weeks. As everyone has said, the crepinette is great, but so is the lamb saddle and the monkfish. I recommend sitting at the bar for a apertif with with one of the two bartenders (Joe and Destin, I think). They're charming and a reason to sit at the bar and eat. Forget the Cheslea Commons; this is what the neighborhood needs. Pros: great bartenders, different food, good service Cons: limited seating in the garden more

Cool spot with great food 8/23/2006

Love this place--sit outside and enjoy the great wine list or save extra room for the brined pork. incredible. Pros: friendly staff, unpretentious setting, new foods to try more

so-so place 8/20/2006

Had Dinner there Aug 20, 06.\r Ambiance is on the cool side, clean and sober, friendly service. Wine list great,. The Menu is a bit strange, unusual dishes, but who eats Frog Legs these days !!?? Or pig feet?? Having a vegetarian dish on the menu would be nice.\r The backyard could be a bit nicer, no ambiance, with better table settings, instead of the cold and ugly (and cheap) metal tables. Side dishes are great, altough a bit small for the price.\r Loved the Pizokel ! Fish and Pork were tastless! \r \r All in all a good neighborhood Restaurant on the pricy side.\r \r \r \r \r more

Get here early before everyone discovers this place 7/10/2006

Fabulous, original food in a warm, unpretentious setting. Great wine list. This is a gem and something really unique in the neighborhood. Pros: unique food, great wines more
