Fantastic Dining 10/12/2009

To have your meal served to perfection is not to common in many fine dining establishments. The salad was the perfect size, the steak could not have been done better, the sides were excellent, as were the desserts, and the service was outstanding. This is one place I will be returning to. Pros: Everything was to perfection Cons: Parking more

Average to worse not acceptable in Chicago's Steakhouse market 7/8/2008

I was hoping for a great experience, but had only a mediocre one; unacceptable for Chicago. We ordered the Sunday Dinner for Two for variety, & his experience was better than mine. First, half of the escargot were overcooked (burned, nice & rubbery), then my salad (dressing choices didn't even include a house?!) was wilted & brown in spots. The filet arrived, though it was not anywhere near medium - Half was well done and the other half, which was so overseasoned it dulled my tongue, was almost rare. The dessert was VERY NICE: light cheesecake! Service was poor - There was a miscue on ordering our desserts, & admitting it may have been the fault of a smart comment I made, the waiter agreed with me instead of graciously sharing the blame. Pros: Desserts OUTSTANDING! Cons: Poorly cooked food, bad service more

Great Customer Service 3/2/2008

We had dinner reservations for 6 PM on Saturday night. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. We were seated promptly, and the service from start to finish was incredible. The wine list was impossible, but when we asked for a recommendation, the one she gave us was perfect. Pros: Great Service Cons: Steak was a little tough for the price more

Very Disappointed... 2/11/2008

Recently, my wife and I had dinner at Tramonto?s Steak & Seafood. Unfortunately our experience last Saturday was bad, actually ?very bad. We were both extremely disappointed with the meal and the service. My wife ordered a filet mignon and I had the sirloin. Her steak arrived burned and uneatable and mine arrived cold (despite the fact that it was served in a skillet). They reheated mine in short order but my wife had to wait about 10 minutes for them to cook another steak for her. My steak was very tough. When my wife?s steak finally arrived it was tender and flavorful, however when we go out for dinner the idea is to eat our meals together, not one at a time. We had the goat cheese potatoes and the Caesar salad. Both were good, however when we ask for more dressing the waiter forgot to bring it until after we had finished eating our salads. Which leads me to the service. It seems like the level of service has dropped significantly since our previous visits. We found our waiter to be quite unprofessional and quite patronizing. Instead of really being interested in our needs his attitude seemed very scripted. The waiter at the next table was not much better, in fact, while describing the menu choices to the customers he started using profanity, which both my wife and I found unnecessary and extremely unprofessional. None of the wait staff even offered any apologies for our meal. In fact the waiter seemed quite annoyed that he had to return them to the kitchen. He even at one point apparently echoed the sentiments of the chef arguing that my wife did not know what she was talking about, despite the fact that she has had this exact same dish each time she has dined at your restaurant. We found this to be quite offensive. As sometimes happens with new restaurants, the management goes out of it?s way when it first opens so that it gets a good review, then seems to be satisfied with just treading water and getting through the work day. How disappointing. Pros: Valet Parking Cons: Poor Service, Improperly Cooked Food, Poor Management more

OVER THE TOP!!! Highly recommended!!! 8/29/2007

Outstanding! Much more than a nice dinner, our evening at Tramonto's was nothing less than an ""experience"" begging for another visit. Chicago offers such amazing restaurants, why drive out to Wheeling? Tramonto's is without question the best reason. Keefer's, Ruth's Chris, Rosebud, Kinzie's, Gibsons, the Chop House, RL, Gibsons, & the slew of other Chicago Steak Houses all receive our praise, even compared to the late Biggs Steak House though, Tramonto's is our new high water mark for all out dining pleasure. Pros: Everything, ambiance, service, wine list, one of the best steaks available Cons: We dont live closer! more

Beautiful restaurant, overpriced, disappointing food and ambiance 8/26/2007

We went on a Saturday evening with another couple. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The decor of the restaurant is amazing, very tastefully done. However, the salad my husband ordered was limp and not very fresh. The steaks most of us had were just okay, nothing you couldn't get anywhere else. The waiter was sneezing as was another diner. The other diner, in fact, must have been having an allergy attack for at least an hour. Very unappetizing, totally ruined our meal, which wasn't worth the high price in any event! We won't be going back nor will we recommend this restaurant to friends. Too expensive for the quality of food we received. Doesn't live up to the ""media hype"" it has been getting. Pros: lovely restaurant, georgeous bathrooms, extensive wine list Cons: sneezing waiter, sneezing patron, below average food more

Disappointing, especially at this price point 6/9/2007

My husband and I went with another couple. The atmosphere was nice but rather noisy. The food was relatively poor. The rolls were cold and hard. We had an appetizer of mussels that were rather bland. Most disappointing was the prime rib that was fatty, chewy and had an odd taste. The service was good but a bit hovering. This place is well below average especially when compared to other restaurants in this price range. I would not return. Pros: good service Cons: poor food, noisy more

Disappointing Dining Experience 3/1/2007

I was really looking forward to having a nice dining experience here since it has been publicized in the local media as being one of the best steak houses in the Chicago metro area. We decided to take my mom here for her birthday, which was noted when the reservations were made. We were seated right by the kitchen next to another couple whose conversation could be heard word for word due to the cramped seating. The steak that I ordered, which was suppose to be the best cut in the city according to our waiter, was bland and fatty and my mom?s fish was dry with no taste. To top it off, they forgot that it was my mom?s birthday. I told the host after dinner, but I just received an extremely insincere apology. You would think with an attitude like that, the food would be half-way decent. I will not be coming back any time soon. Cons: The Food more

Best steakhouse in the North Shore. Period. 1/3/2007

Unbelievable! A Las Vegas or downtown restaurant in Wheeling. Food is spectacular. Try the ""Skipper"" or ""Mr. Howell"" seafood platters. Steaks are amazing and the 40oz. bone in rib eye is outstanding. Great sides. One of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever been in. It is a bit pricy and a place for special occasions without having to drive downtown and pay for parking. Valet is FREE. Service is outstanding. Pros: Great ambience and very romantic. 1,000 bottle wine list and great steaks and seafood more

  • The Scene
Rick Tramonto and partners' Wheeling phenom delivers unstuffy fine dining to well-heeled locals and hotel guests at prime prices. In the theatrical two-story space, one wall is all glass waterfall and electric candlelight, another a temperature-controlled wine display of 10,000 bottles carefully chosen by former Trotter's sommelier Belinda Chang. Appointments are snazzy, clashing reds edgy, service personable and well-informed.

    The Food
Dry-aged USDA prime steaks with seductive sauce and topping choices from Bordelaise to bone marrow star on an updated menu. A 20-ounce bone-in ribeye is truly perfectly prepared, with exquisitely juicy, tangy beef flavor. Classic-leaning seafood includes juicy oysters Rockefeller enriched with the flavors of aromatic salt, star anise and the open kitchen's wood-burning oven and showy shellfish platters with mustard, mignonette and cocktail sauces. Dishes like sweetbread salad, frog's legs with celery root and cheesy caramelized cauliflower trump the usual steakhouse suspects. Recommended souffle has a mealy texture.
