Town & Country Kennel

I have had an association with Linda and her family at Town and Country since they worked out of their basement-about 36 years. And, no, I am not a family member or personal friend. At 22 I had an 8 wk old puppy and 8 mos. preganant. I took my puppy-Misty- to her and loved how she looked and how kind Linda was to the puppies I saw there with Misty. Linda and I at one point, and she helped me through the process-doing most of the work, mated our dogs-little Col. Lee was his name. I used Linda all those years as a groomer until Misty went ""over the rainbow"" after becoming very ill. Move the clock a few years later and I then had a 3 mos. old puppy, Deja Vu. Linda immediately became her groomer and I was always thrilled with how she looked. At this point the T&C folks had become an enormous business and they still afforded us the same ""homey"" feeling there. Deja Vu lived until 18 and was less than 8 lbs at that time. She was blind, deaf and with dementia. I needed her groomed because it was time and I wanted her comfy... I asked to stay with her during the grooming... I know it was not normal but they could see the anxiety in my eyes and heard it in my voice that I was distraught-they allowed me to stay with her and it helped her too. I boarded her there once, when she was younger, and felt very secure with her there. It was the only time I didn't take her with us on vacation. It made me sad to see these horrific reviews as my association/relationship with Linda and T&C has only been positive... except I hated the silly bows in her hair after grooming!!! Linda is brilliant when it comes to animals and advocates for them on a level as I have not ever seen and admire. I wonder do the folks who have felt it necessary to trash T&C still use them....?????? PLEASE FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF BEFORE YOU TAKE THE NEGATIVE RESPONSES AT FACE VALUE... I THINK YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH YOUR CHOICE!!! more

The staff was very nice upon arrival.... I was then informed by a friend who was also keeping her dog there that when someone finally allowed her to go back with her dog... THEY HAD NOTHING FOR THE DOG IN THERE. JUST CEMENT. NO BED, BLANKET, NOTHING. This would have been fine if they had informed me of this.......anyway.....but it all switched around, when I had called them. Apparently my dog had not rid of all his worms (we adopted him from a shelter) from the dewormer QUITE yet.... and they didnt inform me but informed my friend who dropped off a blanket that my dog was banned from leaving his cage to go on a walk with a staff member because they didnt want worms in their ground. Its understandable that they didnt want this but when you are paying around 200 for a week stay, and your told your dog would get two walks a day i think that they should have accomadated and taken him on a walk in a further part of thier large property where they didnt usually bring other dogs. im enraged, im in my vacation house now concerned about the fact that my dog will be locked in a small enclosure for SEVEN DAYS. A very good place to send your furry kids to camp! You have to check out the Cat section too. The Staff is great and they don't mind a few (maybe more then a few) phone calls while your away. more

My experience with this kennel for the week of June 30 to July 7 left me very unhappy. I had boarded my cat there many times before and made my reservation early knowing that the 4th of July week is very busy there. My cat especially likes to sit in a window sill and the cat camping area provides a very large window in some enclosures. Although they also have a cruise option that provides windows in all units, these units provide three levels of much smaller size and very small windows .Knowing that there are limited window enclosures available in the camping option, I only made the reservation after being assured that a window enclosure was available and would be reserved for him. Although I have always been allowed to take my cat to his enclosure when dropping him off, the staff person there came around the counter to take him and said I could not go back with him. The people behind the counter had never taken a pet back themselves before but always call for kennel staff to do this. I got suspicious that he might not have a window and asked about it. After a long delay she admitted that all the window enclosures were occupied. When I stated that my reservation was conditional on having the window and was not advised that it was not guaranteed, she again just said none were available. They did allow me to go up to get him when I picked him up and found that the enclosure was dark and dingy and the cat bed I brought for him was upside down on the upper perch which was so dark the staff was not able to see they had placed it wrong. I feel they were deliberately deceptive when I dropped him off and was concerned. I knew that I had no oher option but to leave him there sine it was a holiday week but I will will never do so again. more
