Meh 9/13/2011

I decided to try this place because I always pass it. I got a medium pepperoni pizza because I couldn't justify spending the $14+ (plus carryout charge) for a large 1-topping. The one I did get was still $10.55. While I don't mind waiting 20 minutes for food, it would have been nice if there were 'some' form of entertainment in there - a radio, a tv, or even just some nice pictures on the wall to look at. The waitress wasn't all that nice, although she wasn't directly rude. Finally get my pizza and bring it home. It was good, but far from 'the best' I've ever had. Also, for the price I found it to be rather small - especially considering that the crust was thin. Overall, I think that this place could redeem itself if it would put some entertainment up, bring the prices down, and hire some friendly wait staff. The pizza was good, don't get me wrong, but I can't see myself spending $11 there again to get another one. There's better places to try. more

Good Old School Family Owned Italian Joint 5/25/2011

Tower of pizza is a great place to get pizza for take out. Great sauce, a legitimate New York type of pizza in the middle of Greater New Orleans. This is not to say that the restaurant is not an ok place to eat, but it is more like eating at an old time pizza kitchen in the Bronx. It's a bit cramped and warm, but I don't mind it. I always say that it reminds me of eating in my grandmother's rec room. If you are a one of those transplants from the northeast, you could be that type of pizza snob that so many of you are... or you can appreciate the differences in pizza from one place to another. Being a carpetbagger myself, I suggest others just take it down a notch and appreciate where you are. This is the big easy, not Long Island. If you cannot enjoy pizza from any place other than where you came from, then the problem is with you not the pizza places in NOLA. more

Tower of Turd 2/21/2010

I'm a transplant from Philadelphia and have been searching for good pizza here for years. I'm not one of those pizza snobs always trying to compare pizza to back home. But I do like a good pie. Sorry guys, you have fabulous food here in general but the pizza in this town flat out sucks. New Orleanians wouldn't know good pizza if one walked up to you in the middle of an empty football field and slapped you saying ""Hi, I'm good pizza"". I got tired of Slice/New York Pizza and went to this dump on a recommendation from a local friend who raved about it. I can ignore the dumpy setting, no big deal. I can ignore the fact they didn't bothering sticking even an AM radio in there for some kind of background noise. I've stopped even trying to expect good service in this town so we won't discuss the crap waitress we had. We ordered the salad, it was a freaking pile of iceburg lettuce with vegetable oil slathered on it and a mist of vinegar. Really??? Okay, perhaps the 45 minute wait for the supreme pizza would yield better results. What garbage!!! Sauce and crust utterly devoid of any flavor. My girlfriend and I ate our pizza utterly pissed at this crap you guys say is the best pizza in town! HAH! The box from a Red Barron pizza would have tasted better than that nasty thing I ate. And when the way overpriced check arrived I thought to myself, you could of at least kissed me first. You folks need to just make a nice Gumbo and call it a pizza. This place gets 2 thumbs down and a middle finger! Pros: None What to speak of Cons: Pizza is terrible, Bad service, dumpy restaurant more

Real people, REAL PIZZA 10/2/2009

Forget about the pizza, although it is the best around, but the artichoke salad....................WOW! Pros: Awsome!!!!!! Cons: Kinda small more

wonderful pizza 7/30/2009

Placed take out order. The wait was not long but I have to agree with previous comments, the wait staff is not friendly at all - I'm sure their tips will hurt. Pros: Great Hot food - I don't eat salad but it looked wonderful Cons: update menu more

IT IS TERRIBLE 1/24/2009

this place sux. from the poor service to the fat owner that always yells at people in his own reastaurant. and all those kids running around it is terrible. I think the waiters get high because they SUC!!! NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!! It is WAY OVER RATED Cons: it is worse than home made fried poo more

AVOID THIS DUMPY PLACE. IT'S DIRTY AND SERVICE SUX! 1/16/2009

I went in to this dump on Friday, January 16, 2009. First off, the place is really crappy looking inside. We sat down and waited to be served only to watch the wait staff talk amongst themselves as if we were invisible. The owner of the place, some really shaggy looking guy, was snippy to another table, when the patrons made him aware of that they had changed seats. WTF? Anyway, we sat there without even being acknowledged for at least ten minutes, and the place wasn't even busy. That is horrible customer service folks. Needless to say, we left before they took our order, which may or may not have even taken place at the rate this dump operates. On top of that, they only take cash and check, which is an obvious tip off that the place isn't reporting its legitimate income to the IRS. Some people think that the rude service is part of the culture or something, but that is complete b.s. and totally unacceptable. \r \r Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. It is REALLY dirty and I have heard that the health inspector has reported them for their lack of cleanliness. A special report on the place actually discovered large brown insects native to Louisiana scurrying around in the place during business hours and small mammal fecal matter in the refridgerators. Sounds pretty gross to me. When you combine their lack of hygeine with the fact that their SERVICE SUKS, go somewhere else to get your pizza! THIS PLACE SUKS!!!! Pros: Nothing worthwhile at all at this miserable establishment. Cons: Everything. This place is a joke. From service to cleanliness, this place is a disgrace. more

good pizza but people are mistaken 1/8/2009

yes the pizza is good but you are giving the owner too much credit he is not a nice loving friendly italian pizza man! and his father is not dead know your facts before you start worshiping a wolf more

One of the Best I have had in the area 12/30/2008

This is some of the best pizza the area has to offer and that's it. Thin crust - Generous toppings. The service is pretty good but this is not the place to go if you need to be molly coddled. Don't even thing about special ordering.. What you see is what get. Pizza, spaghetti, salad (house dressing only) draft beer and soft drinks. I did see one waitress who seemed like she might have a tendancy to get mouthy as referenced on some of the other reviews. The place was normal busy and she was barking at the other waitresses who were doing fine as far as I could see. She seemed to lack a certain professionalism in her willingness to embarass her co-workers and guests. She must be realted to the owner or something. Anyway it would not prevent me from returning. Great stuff. Small place. Busy buzzy Atmo. Order a draft, Relax and enjoy. Pros: A1 Pizza no BS just like the old days - remember flavor? Cons: Small - Not quiet - Fast paced - don't linger too long if others are waiting for a table. more

Excellent, no nonsense pizza 8/8/2008

I recently moved here from upstate New York, and Tower of Pizza was the first pizza place I ordered from. The pizza was excellent, and it has been excellent every time I have ordered from them since. If they had chicken wings and delivery (and maybe mozzarella sticks, too!), I would probably never get pizza anywhere else. I have tried Reginelli's and The Italian Pie, and the pizza at Tower of Pizza is the clear winner out of those three. If you are like me, and you don't think things like pineapple or asparagus belong on pizza, give this place a try. As others have written, however, don't try to eat there during prime hours. Pros: They make a simple, fantastic pepperoni pizza. Cons: Often too crowded to eat there. more

Get Take Out 7/3/2008

\r Great pizza. It's a New York style thin crust. The place is extremely small and there usually aren't open tables. Get a takeout order, but be prepared to stand around in an awkward spot in between kids playing on the arcade games and waiters coming out of the kitchen. \r \r It's not a cheap pizza but well worth the money. Order the Italian dressing and drizzle it over the pizza - amazing. more

Original and Inspirational 3/3/2008

The Experience of Tower of Pizza is of Metairie/Lakeview/NewOrleans area legend.... ..The original yet simplistic menu compliments the small fast pace atmosphere that can be seen during the dinner rush on weekends. PIZZA / SALAD / SPAGHETTI / BEER..The Neon signs in the front window says it all. Go during the week or after the late movie and enjoy the best pizza the New Orleans Area has to offer. My dad brought me to T.O.P when I was 12 and 15 years later I'm still hooked... Great Times and good Pizza. Thanks Guys!!! Pros: Good Ingredients Cons: No delivery+ Don't change a thing I love seeing the place. more

Best Pizza In Louisiana 2/4/2008

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!\r This pizza is great,,,the most mouth watering stuff I could ever sink my teeth in to. \r Great sauce and great enviroment. If you comment bad about this place then you must be used to the corporate pizza factories that all taste like. more

Bad service, Decent Pizza 9/23/2007

Slow service our server completely forgot about us only to get a ""oh, I completely forgot about you guys"". Even after our order finally was put in. We never got any refills. When the pizza finally did arrive at our table it was decent but did not live up to the hype. I would have to not recommend Tower of Pizza, I would try Louisiana Pizza Kitchen instead. Pros: Pizza was ok Cons: Horrible service, crowded more

Poor Customer Service 6/30/2007

Very Rude Service. We put in a ""TO-GO"" order and were told to come back in 30 min. We came to pick up the pizza, and the waitress (Who was drinking beer on the job) told us that she never put it in. She said to wait 10 min, and she'll put a rush order in. Ok. We come back in 10 min, she says she never put the order in (AGAIN). Then she says, ""Shhi-tuff happens"". We ask to speak to the manager (who never showed up), and she says ""You cant get me in trouble"". VERY RUDE, the pizza is descent, but NEVER in a 1,000,000 years would I step in that restaurant. We never raised our voice or anything to anger the waitress. I recommend eating elsewhere, its not worth it. Pros: Descent Pizza Cons: Awful Customer service, The waitress drinks on the job, if you go in late more

Walter is terrific 5/19/2005

This place was a dump when first opened in the 70's by the father; he did not have a clue. After several management changes the son was finally given a chance and he made the place soar. The food is great and the atmosphere is unbelievable. The new owner and management has to be congratulated on a great job in beating the national big boys at their own game. Keep up the great work and may the old man rest in peace. more

good pizza 11/21/2004

Simple menu = good pizza The menu is not large so they are really good at turning out great tasting pizza. Pros: Tasty, Quality ingredients, Fills you up Cons: , Lots of kids, Loud more

Best place for pizza 3/1/2004

Great food, just so good you have to wait sometimes, but deffinetly worth the wait though. Nobody in the area has better pizza. They also have killer salads. The kitchen has 2 windows so you can see your pizza being made and cooked. The cooks even give the kids pieces of dough to play with. No place better than Tower. Pros: Great food, Good prices, Great staff more

simply teh best!! 5/15/2003

Tower of Pizza blows away any other Pizza in LOUISIANA! I have beben eating there for 23 years now, adn No one ever gets sick of eating there. There is usually a wait, which says a lot about a place. Once you try this you'll never go back to LA PIzza Kitchen or Italian Pie. You shoudl try the Italian Toss salad....DELICIOUS!!!! This is a great place to eat if you are dining alone or with your kids baseball team. They are always waiting on big parties.....THE MORE THE MERRIER! Pros: inexpensive, family enviornment, BEST EVER Cons: sometimes the wait, not enough tables, not open for lunch more

Classic Pizza Place! 12/6/2002

In the ""Laverne & Shirley"" style of pizza restaurants, this place has got to be the end all - beat all old time family pizza place! The ""viewing window"" is nearly always lined with children atop chairs turned backwards staring as the dough is tossed, the sauce is spread and the toppings placed. Thin, crisp crust is the foundation of this Italian delicacy loaded with gooey hot cheese and your favorite toppings - extra cheese, italian sausage, mushrooms and onions are my favorites. Add the artichoke or italian salad and a pitcher of your favorite soft drink or beer and you have a sicilian feast. The old style juke box and muted video games add to the old wood panelling and red/white checkered table cloths. Mama Mia! more
