I always eat at home and visit a hotel like once in 3/4 months. Nice Sambar curry, with a great flavor. It is served hot. You can also make it at home. Pros: Good Sambar

BEWARE if you using TOWER Restaurant as your CATERER!!!!!! 8/24/2011

If you going there just to eat SOUTH INDIAN food then its GOOD. I used to go there every 15-20 days. Driving 60 miles one way but not any more. Catering is THE WORST. BEWARE OF FOOD TASTING.. we had to go with Tower Restaurant for our food caterer since our hotel/hall place was ONLY going with this restaurant. Food tasting was the best.. i thought South Indian cook are the BEST for gujarati food.. i was so wrong.. (1) Poori: On the food tasting day was really soft and medium size. The day of event Poori was very small, and hard as a papad. It was almost a size of a pani poori. I saw some people eating it like chips with vegetables. (2) Undhiyu: On the food tasting day we wrote a comment for the owner of the restaurant per our phone conversation with him that it was very dry, and needs to have little gravy in it. Instead on the event day it was even more dry and vegetables taste like they were all frozen and old. (3) Mango Ras: On the food tasting day, it was straight out of a Can, but it did taste just fine. On the day of event it was nothing more then a Mango Juice all water down. (Very upset) (4) Khaman: When we went to the restaurant Khaman were really nice, just like we would make at home, we just told them to add Chillies on the top for some flavor. Instead, on the day of event what they served was more like Dhokla, it was nothing like Khaman. $22 per dish/person? Are you kidding me? It seemed to me that on the day of food tasting they had someone outside the restaurant prepare everything so we would pass the tasting, However, the food on the event day was complete disaster. BEWARE .. IF YOUR HOTEL/HALL FORCE YOU TO GO WITH THIS RESTAURANT.. YOU CAN CHANGE PLACE BUT FOOD.. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE.. i will never go to their restaurant or even suggest any one.. its been 15 days still i did not receive a call or email regarding this screw up!. I am sure TOWER RESTAURANT OWNER doesn't care but he will not get my or my family/friends $ any more. more

Always enjoy Tower 12/25/2009

The most telling detail about Tower is the great attention and energy the gentlemen who run the place put into their work. They're healthy-looking men intent on providing a consistently good experience?just the sort of people you'd like taking care of you at mealtime. The lunch buffet is always good, nicely varied, with carefully prepared food that's just right, well-balanced in flavor and spice. The dining room is bright and airy, simply and honestly done without pretense, for the purpose of taking a good meal. The offerings have never been greasy or overly spicy, so you won't leave with a heavy feeling. The chapatis are excellent, the softest and best around. The staff always make me feel very welcome there, and the dining room is always a quiet and relaxing place. It's an honest-to-goodness restaurant that will restore you when you're ready for nourishing food. Pros: Excellent lunch buffet Cons: Not close enough to my apartment in DT Raleigh more

Great Southern Indian Buffet 3/31/2009

This is my favorite Indian restaurant. I am not a vegetarian, and yet I find the food here appealing and completely satisfying. The price is a little steep but if you go hungry you can get your money's worth. The service is fine - it's a buffet - they bring you drinks and take your plate away - what else do you need? LOL When my Indian friends eat here they tell me it's quite authentic Southern Indian Food. I would not be able to tell. I'm not an expert. But even my husband who usually does not care for Indian cuisine love the flavors of the dishes here. My 3 year old eats well here also. The people running the place are gentle and quiet. There is always a lollipop for my little girl at the end of the meal. =) A very peaceful, enjoyable place to dine. Pros: Great tasting food Cons: a little warm inside! a bit pricey more

My favorite South Indian Restaurant in the Triangle 2/25/2009

This place is my favorite South Indian restaurant in the triangleand probably my favorite Indian restaurant in the triangle. Their Dosas and Idlis are really good. Their North Indian menu is not that extensive but the quality is quite good-especially the Paneer Makhani and the Gulab Jamuns. This is one Indian restaurant I keep going back to time and again. On the downside-they do not have a great decor but that is a small compromise for the food I get there. The prices are quite reasonable. Pros: Great Food Cons: Ambience more

Very Authentic Dosai 1/2/2009

I am a south Indian who was raised in south India. The dosais (my spouse and I have not tried anything else) are quite authentic. Unlike other Indian restaurants which are always filled with non-Indians, this restaurant always has a lot of Indians in it. That should tell you a lot. The service and decor are also quite typical of a dosai/idli/thali restaurants in south India, which means that it can be seen as a little shabby for American standards. Pros: authentic dosai. Cons: odd location. more

Best Idli Sambhar Dosa Bharatnatyam in the RTP area 9/12/2008

To date, I have not been aware of any link between the weather and my food choices. However, today morning, I woke up to the sound of rain and, to my astonishment, to images of Idlis, white and fluffy, floating over a sea of Sambhar, dotted with fried mustard-seed tadka, and irregular shaped specs of dal and coconut chutney. Other images followed, for example those of crispy, cylindrical and triangular, dosas being shattered at their center surfaces revealing yellow spicy potatoes steaming inside. more

healthy choice 6/20/2008

I like the fact that it is vegetarian food plus its not oily. more

As close as mom's cooking as it can get... 4/26/2008

I think peterjamie has no sense of taste. I come from the same town as the temple from which the name of this restaurant is derived and the food here is as close as it gets to authentic south indian food / mom's cooking. My friends who have visited from virginia, california etc. all agree. The food is actually a little too rich for my taste and hence the 4 rating - I wish they'd go easy on the butter/ghee :) Anyway I'd recommend you try the same thing peterjamie hated: the thaali and dosa. Trust me, nobody makes better dosa than these folks. Maybe peterjamie has never tasted south indian food (it is different from north indian food) but these guys back the best south indian food int he triangle area (udipi would be a close second). Try their aapam, an unique pancake like dish that is difficult to find even in India (each state has speciality dishes that are tough to get in other states - aapam actually has its origins in kerala). Their lunch buffet is also cheaper yet quality. Try it! Pros: great food, authentic, unique varieties Cons: can get a little too busy sometimes requiring long waits more

dont ever try the thaali and dosa 1/13/2008

Pathetic taste i ever had. Please dont ever try the weekend special thaali . I dont understand other reviews given by the restaurent owner or by customers. Cons: not good taste more

Always a pleasure 7/31/2007

This is a great restaurant with wonderful service and food. I enjoy the Sunday buffet with vegetarian dishes all unique and delicious. Pros: unique dishes parking and amazing food Cons: not close enough to my home more

Simply Great Food! 9/14/2006

Hey all, first I would like to say I am not the type to write a review (especially in the middle of the work day) and I don't like buffets. But being a food lover, I feel compelled to affirm what others have said about the Tower. The Tower is probably some of the best food I have ever eaten. The lunch buffet is simply the best combination of vegetarian cuisine ever compiled. I wouldn't want to butcher the names of all the cuisines but just know that they have everything from great little appetizers to fabulous entrees. The best thing about the tower is the buffet's diversity day in and out. I have been numerous times and each time the cuisine is different and just as good. A must try for those in the triangle! Pros: The food! Cons: There is nothing exquisite about the decor, however the food makes this of little concern. more

I tried the lunch buffet 4/17/2006

This place is great for a weekday or weekend brunch. They have an excellent buffet with lots of variety. Typical and tasty South Indian, but a few good North Indian dishes as well. Be sure to go with an appetite, because the food is excellent and you will want to eat as much as possible. Pros: casual, authentic, not oily more

Just like home cooking 3/27/2005

My neighbor, when growing up, was Indian and she cooked the most delicate and delicious food I've ever had. Going to Tower was like stepping back in time. Their food is truly delicious, healthy and satisfying. Tops! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Tops! 2/4/2004

Of the numerous Indian restaurants in the Triangle, this one is up with the best. A casual Indian food diner needs to realize the not so sublte differences between Northern and Southern Indian food. Primarily... Southern is for the most part vegetarian. Frankly, IMO, using fresh vegies and herbs/ spices brings out the true essence of Indian cuisine more than a dish centering on meat. Tower has a friendly atmosphere, good weekly buffet and awesome weekend buffet. Their gunpowder masala dosai is superb with a kick, every curry I have had has been out of this world. Their copious use of curry leaves gives their food a signature flavor that is unmatched. Southern cuisine doesn't cut it anymore! Pros: High quality , Friendly service, The BEST! more

On my A-list of resaurants 6/30/2003

This place is a well kept secret, perhaps because it's a bit out of the way, but it is well worth the trip. Both the food and service are excellent. The quality has been consistent everytime I've eaten there. Definately the best vegitarian Indian food in the Triangle. Pros: Price, Taste, Service more

Great Vegi South Indian Place 6/24/2003

The best part about this place is the fact that it is a vegetarian restaurant. Very friendly staff and great place for authentic South Indian style cooking. My wife and I went there for almost 10 weekends in a row. CJ more

Heavenly Food 6/17/2003

Delectable Dosas, steaming Idlis, and the best Sambar in the Triangle.... What more could anyone ask for? I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants try the best Indian food in this area. Try a Masala Dosa or just visit them during the week for lunch or on weekends for a buffet where you can try a little of everything. Most indian restaurants offer North Indian Cuisine, Tower offers the unique flavors and aromas of the South of India. Pros: Great Value for Money, Great Food, Friendly Staff more

Best food ever!!! 1/7/2003

I've only been to Tower's lunch buffet, but I have to say that it is the best food I've ever had. It's the only buffet where I can eat everything (because it's a vegetarian restaurant), and everything is good. The service is very attentive and friendly, and the food is incredibly good. Anyone who likes Indian food, or who wants to try it needs to go to the lunch buffet. Pros: Excellent food, Good value, Great service more
