Toto's Coffee & Cafe

I have no idea how this place has ever passed a health inspection. It is filthy. Everyone who works there is rude. They all act like it is an imposition that a customer walked in the door. The only benifit to the slow, attitude filled service is that it gives you time to really look around the counter area and into the kitchen to see just how filthy the place really is. I love going to toto's! Jesse is an amazing barista! He can make just about anything you can think of, like mixing syurps to create latte's that taste like candy bars. Sure the place is old (and with only one person on duty the wait can seem long), but i would rather support a local buisness. Go when Jesse is working and you will never have a crappy drink!!! more

I had one of the worst customer service experiences in Toto's. While it is a very quaint, cozy coffee shop - decorating well is the only credit I will give this place. I made a reservation 3 weeks ago to host a baby shower, the only stipulations were: I couldn't bring food in and everyone had to purchase SOMETHING. Problem solved, Steve said he could make my cake and I was going to purchase everyone beverage of choice, plus order additional food items. This apparently was not true. 4 days before my baby shower was to be held at this establishment, I was told by Steve (the owner and the man who has perfected the art of making a paying customer feel like they're wasting his time) that I might not be able to have my event held there due to not spending ENOUGH money. I was never told there was a price minimum to meet, and there isn't one. After repeated calls to catch him to discuss the cake and lots of mid-conversation sighs, I felt he simply didn't want to be bothered and didn't care that after invitations had already went out with his business information and a map to his cafe included, with 4 days left to spare, I now needed to find a reasonably priced and available location to hold my event as well as make phone calls to all of my guests explaining the last minute change. This establishment was dirty, the coffee tasted stale and the staff was rude and unprofessional. Next time I'm ready to try a new place I will definitely read the reviews. Apparently I'm not the only person disgusted by this coffee shop. Save your time and money. more

So we got to wait in line for quite a while since the barrista was also the clerk. He would call out everyone that wanted only coffee, no frills, and wait on them. THEN he would serve everyone else (he moved three extra customers in front of us so they did not have to wait for him to make our Mochas). The customer ahead of us got a coffee drink with whipped cream on it and the barrista proceeded to lick his fingers, ring the guy up, and move on to us without once washing his hands! Oh my goodness....GROSS!!! All of their dry goods for baking and such were laying around on the FLOOR in big paper sacks (that they are packaged in) with nothing to protect them from critters, spills, or anything else you can imagine. Although it would be great to recommend a cute little local shop, this one is just a little too quaint to pass health codes! Pros: Locally owned coffee shop Cons: Gross! The espresso left a weird taste in my mouth. They roast their own beans but I'm not sure they know what they're doing. more

Recently I found a coffee shop that had downtown atmosphere in the suburbs of Kansas City. Toto's was such a great place with an amazing staff that was willing to experiement to help me find my perfect drink. Everyone there had such a relaxed attitude and was so friendly.
