Editorial review from Citysearch 9/28/2012

This is a great studio with fantastic teachers. They're so good that 3/4 of my family goes & would most likely prefer to be in class than at home. They work well with all ages - 4, 14, or 40. The kids are excited to learn and the adults seem motivated as well. more

I have been a student in Total Martial 6/6/2012

I have been a student in Total Martial Arts' jiu jitsu program since August 2010 and have enjoyed every minute of it. I've noticed increased energy and endurance as classes continue. I enjoyed it so much that I'm now in the Apprentice Instructor program, learning to perfect my form and expand my understanding of teaching. The other students are great and the teaching style is fun yet structured. This is a great and valuable program for increasing self-confidence and physical improvement. more

Highly recommended 5/24/2012

Total Martial Arts has a very friendly vibe and you can tell that everybody likes one another there. It is beginner-friendly and with an emphasis on self-defense which I love. It also has a solid curriculum which is not always the case with most martial arts schools. Location is great and parking is convenient. Highly recommended!! more

Impressive 5/24/2012

All I can say is I wish I'd have started here first. I feel I've progressed at a much quicker rate than where I was previously training, as the instruction is broken down in a much more comprehensive way. I can't imagine training anywhere else. Also the location is second to none. Now, 90% of my friends are training at Total Martial Arts as well! more

PS1 not so green afterall 8/9/2008

As a big supporter of the Warmup series and the great art that PS1 supports and exhibits I am thoroughly disappointed at the hypocrisy that goes on outside the venue each Saturday. Inside we have Public Farm One, a wonderful example of everything our planet should be, green. An art installation that uses sustainable materials in a beautiful way to not only produce a wonderful atmosphere for all to relax under, but also to support the idea that rooftop gardens help save our environment with each and every planting. \r \r All of this inside, yet outside we have Warmup workers placing wristbands on people and throwing the sticker backings from them on the sidewalk when garbage cans are placed right next to them. This has happened each and every week this summer and it is disgraceful that such a blatant disregard for the planet we live on is exhibited outside of an environmentally friendly exhibit inside. \r \r PS1 and Warmup should be ashamed of the workers they hire there and if I were the curator of the museum it would not be tolerated. This is the only reason I give this 3 stars. \r \r Pros: Fun Cons: Littering more

Where have all the grownups gone 3/20/2005

Although I enjoyed much of the show in its brashness and at times whimsical exploitation of media, I felt a need to see more than this. For one, where was the seductive craftmanship in the finishing of the works? Many works seemed to be classroom projects handed out by professors. Alot has been said about the wealth of drawings, but where are the fine art painters, very few were in evidence (re: the devil painting). I have been seeing a trend in the galleries lately. If a young artist chooses to paint realistically are they exempted from showing because it does not have shock value? Pros: interesting floor pla, plentiful restrooms Cons: need bio's: artists, no benches in galleri, bldg temp too hot more

For those who love ""out there"" art 12/19/2002

I have always been a lover of modern art, and this place ROCKS! While MOMA may have some good film/video stuff, IMHO, that's about it. The one time I visited P.S. 1, about a year ago, EVERYTHING there was amazing. I saw some excellent animated video work, audio pieces by a female artist whose name escapes me, and photography. One piece there appeared to be permanent, a tiny video piece that is under the floorboards near the front entrance. Look for a small hole in the floorboards by the entrance, and hopefully you'll find that the video is still there! Pros: quality of work, "out there" works Cons: getting there more

Boho funhouse--in a good way 5/14/2002

This place is always reliably entertaining to visit. Even if the current art on display leaves something to be desired, the building itself and the hipster crowds it attracts, never do. The Summer Warmup series is always a blast--although it's getting harder and harder to squeeze into the courtyard now that it's been discovered. more
