best service ever! 9/6/2011

RESCUED! Emergency windshield replacement. I nearly missed my flight when a tree branch lodged itself in my windshield. I walked out the front door of my house to find myself stranded. After a dozen calls I found help-your shop. You guys showed up quickly and did after all enable me to get to make my flight on time! Wow, best service ever! more

Their work was neat and clean, 5/4/2011

These guys make it a point to focus on customer service, working with your schedule and budget to make your experience a good one. Their work was neat and clean, and I have had no problems whatsoever with the glass they installed.\r more

Best Facial I've Ever Had!! 5/27/2010

I went to Bliss and used my coupon for their triple oxygen facial, it was the best facial I have ever had! The locker rooms are amazing, they treat you like gold and the facial was better than any other spa service i have had. My favorite part was when they used the oxygen gun to spray my skin. I could feel it working and it was relaxing & calming. My skin looks & feels clearer, smoother and fresh. I will definitely be coming back for more services, and you can't beat the specials! Pros: steam showers, Bliss products, amazing service more

Worst Manicure 2/10/2009

I went to Bliss on a Friday night to get a cream manicure. I was terribly disappointed. I thought my nails were being prepped okay, but was mistaken. The very next day, my cuticles were peeling and the nail polish was chipping. I've had manicures last me for at least a week and a half, but this one barely even made it 2 days. I have not had any other services at Bliss, but I do not recommend the manicures there. Pros: ambience, cleanliness, bliss products Cons: poor manicures more

Absolutely heavenly! 5/1/2008

I visited Spa Bliss today with hesitation after reading the previous reviews on this message board. I must say that I was pleasantly suprised. I was prompty greeted, my message therapist did an amazing job....75 minutes of pure BLISS! The amenities are really, really nice. Very chic and very clean. I will certainly be back and in fact cannot wait to go again! I am so glad I went with my gutt and decided to try it out versus just reading all the negative reviews. Pros: clean, new, amenities, therapists, customer service, got an appointment the same say Cons: have to pay to park, $$$$ more

Poor Customer Service 1/13/2008

I've given this location three chances (massage, bikini wax, massage and manicure) Every time the customer service has gown increasing worse and astoundingly more unprofessional. I will never return and would never recommend. Pros: Facilities Cons: overpriced, poorly staffed more

lovely facials 12/4/2007

Keeping in mind that this was my first-ever experience at the spa, Bliss does great facials! Sweet esthetician, very relaxing experience. I don't know about that other reviewer, but I got background music and I liked it. To me, the waiting room wasn't that bad. There's a view of the pier, and some decent snacks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shower. There's a button you can push for this calming herb-infused steamer. There's also a wet and dry sauna. To me, most of the staff were very nice and helpful. --- until the manicure. The lady seemed like she was in a huge rush. She massacred my cuticles - super painful - and the next day there were those little flakes of skin all over the area past my cuticles. Ew ... and ouch. As soon as we sat down, she practically forced me to watch television, as if to say I wasn't worth her conversation. It was supposed to be this soothing manicure with cream and a little massage but she was really rough with me and it wasn't soothing at all. So, it seems to me from my own experience and the other reviews, that the verdict is WONDERFUL FACIALS, but don't waste your time on manicures/pedicures. more

great facial, bad waxing 8/1/2007

I loved my facial here-- it was just as good as I've had at their SoHo location. It was relaxing and my skin looked great. They do recommend products, so be prepared for that. (This happens even if you say in advance you're not going to buy anything... I was traveling and explained that I couldn't fit anything else in my carry-on, but the esthetician said she had to leave something at the front desk... so I just told them the same thing.) The bikini wax I had, though, was pretty mediocre. The esthetician just told me "Think happy thoughts." Um, okay. Most places try to distract you with conversation... this wasn't so successful. I would not recommend the waxing services. The locker room and lounge are smaller than NYC, but they're nice. I like the individual steam showers-- that was a lot more relaxing than climbing into a big steam room filled with a lot of people talking! Good snacks and magazines, too. Pros: great facial Cons: bad waxing more

Phone skills could use some polishing 6/25/2007

I just tried to book an appointment at bliss (I have a certificate that I received as a gift) and found the experience pretty unpleasant. The woman on the phone was cold, uninformed and hard to understand (heavy accent). Honestly, it was like pulling teeth just to find out whether they had male or female massage therapists. This doesn't bode well for my appointment. more

Worst Spa in Chicago 5/2/2007

I was anxiously awaiting my appointment at Bliss, because I have been to the one in NY and loved it. This place was the worst ever. I went in for a bikini wax and it took over an hour and a half. The room was about 100 degrees and the technician kept burning me with the wax. I asked if she had just started working because she was just awful. She informed me that she had been working there was quite some time....could have foooled me! I also had a massage there. Even though the signs state QUIET ZONE, it was like a party in the hallway. I had to listen to a 45 minute conversation between the employees regarding their horrendous love life and what they were up to that weekend. It was not relaxing at all. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. more

horrible staff 3/29/2007

i hate this spa it is the worst in the city i quit going there due to the staff and the management is just a nightmare,,,,,they mask you and leave you in a room to sit all by yourself and the oxygen treatment thats a joke for an upsell ........everything is way over priced and the staff is just rude.................i will never go here again.........it was a waste of money i was out 350.00 faster then two hours and the results well lets just say there werent any the place is a joke more

Highly Disappointed 12/31/2006

(Dec 2005) I first went to Bliss Spa Chicago a few months after it first opened (Dec. 2005) for christmas. I treated my family (2 Sister's, my Mom & Dad) to pedicures for the holiday to relax everyone. We first arrived to the front desk and the receptionist unfortunately had terrible customer service skills. We were then rushed to the stations only to find the technicians very unfriendly. At the time they had a pedicure special for the holidays which included a free orange sugar scrub container to go home. Unfortunately it was like pulling teeth for them to honor the special in which we had to remind them about. Overall our services were anything but relaxing and they were extremely overpriced pedicures($70) for the quality we received. We were anything but relaxed when we left. The staff for some reason acted as if they were to good to help you. **(Dec 2006)** I recently went back to Bliss for a manicure thinking that they would have improved things since they have had a year to correct things. I have to say the receptionist was an improvement she was very nice, the spa smelled wonderful and the ambience was great. Unfortunately the manicure was still terrible. She barely did anything. I asked for square which is pretty easy and I ended up with uneven rounded nails, my cuticles looked horrible, she cut my finger and the polish was uneven. I couldn't believe I had just received a manicure I was very unimpressed. My sister and I have been to many spas all over the place some were good, some were bad. We like to spa hop and try different places out, everyone needs a little break to relax and pamper themselves. I've been a nail tech for 8 yrs now and for some reason people just don't take pride in their work anymore. The quality was terrible for price. It was almost as if I hadn't got a manicure but gave someone $35. I gave them the benefit of the doubt by trying them again but it sadly disappointed me yet again. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Pros: Ambience was modern and simplistic, it smelled wonderful Cons: The staff was horrible, service quality was awful, NOT recommended more

Not Impressed 9/12/2006

The first time I went to Bliss I had a manicure and pedicure and the second time I had an 90 minute massage. Overall everyone was friendly and helpful. I agree with one of the other reviewers...the place itself does not have that warm and cozy feeling that I usually associate with a spa experience. Decor seemed like it was straight out of an Ikea magazine. The womens locker room/dressing area does not offer any privacy. You have to dress and undress in this small open space and there aren't even any benches to sit on to take your shoes off. Anyway, dressing and undressing in front of complete strangers is unconfortable for me, but I am more on the modest side. Once you are finished undressing in front of everyone else that has an appointment the same time as you, you are aksed to go to a waiting room. The waiting area has a tiny little bar with water and brownies, cookies, candies, cheese and crackers. Nothing to get excited about but I didn't go for brownies! The furniture is very uncomfortable in the waiting area and ESPECIALLY in the manicure/pedicure area. They have those trendy little chairs with the low backs and neither my friend or I could find a comfortable position, and after sitting there for a one hour pedicure and then another hour for a manicure I thought I was going to go crazy. The spa rooms are ok. It was complete silence. I like a little relaxing background music and that was not happening in this room! All I could hear was the massage therapist breathing. Also I heard everytime someone closed a door up and down the hall. That was a little frustrating. Now, they did do a paraffin treatment on my feet and that was nice but honestly that was about all I enjoyed. I wouldn't go again and I wouldn't recommend it. Pros: Nice view from the waiting area, Paraffin treatment Cons: Lacking ambience more

Everything I hoped for 8/4/2006

I recently went to Bliss for the triple oxygen facial and a hot off the stesses massage. I have been using the products from the catalogue for years and was so excited to finally visit. My experience was wonderful from start to finish. Everyone there is nice and helpful. Marta did my facial and it was the best one I've ever had. Her advice was appreciated and my skin feels and looks so healthy. Stephanie did my massage and it was pleasantly different than the standard spa massage, so relaxing but deep. I will definitely go back. They put a parraffin treatment on your feet before the massage, which is a nice touch. I am so glad I moved to Chicago and get to enjoy this sweet retreat! Pros: steam showers, sauna Cons: music was all over the place but some was good. more

Awful experience 7/15/2006

Was extremely disappointed because the experience at Bliss was anything but blissful. The staff was rude and unprofessional. I went for a 60 minute pedicure and the technician was 10 minutes late and stopped 10 minutes early. Will NEVER go to Bliss and I have told everyone I know to NOT go there. Pros: nothing Cons: rude staff, awlful experience more

A piece of NY that Chicago needed 3/30/2006

I have been to Bliss in NY when they started up a few years back...Chicago is incredibly fortunate to have a spa that isn't the ho hum fluff of most places. Maybe the decor isn't outstanding (its minimalistic but chic) but that's not what I go to a spa for. What they do inside is what I'm willing to visit time and time again for. Facials are amazing and estheticians spend time to talk to you about skincare versus just putting some stuff on you that does nothing for your skin. I've had Stephanie as well...she knows so much about the energy of the body and also a lot of yogic principles. What I like best though is that everyone there is willing to listen and help. Talk to the front desk about anything and they will know the answer or find it if they don't. Pros: Staff, Real Treatments, Location more

Best Kept Secret 1/20/2006

I had a massage there by Stephanie, who is amazing! She took extra time with me and tailored the massage to exactly what I wanted. Great customer service! The spa itself is very luxurious, and they have all their products out for you to use. The spa also has a steam shower which is so relaxing! I highly recommend this spa to anyone in Chicago. Pros: massage, steam showers, beautiful setting Cons: front desk more

Andrea Madeo 1/19/2006

I visited Bliss while I was in Chicago on business and I had a treatment done by Andrea Madeo who was VERY VERY good. It's a new spa, but I think that they will become very popular with such attentive and skilled staff - so book your time there before it takes off. The spa is flexible on appointments as well, and go well into the evening (after working business hours) so it is a brilliant way to just wind down from a busy day and collect one's thoughts. more

Editorial
  • This downtown hotel spa mimics the boutique chic feel of its co-tenant, the W Chicago Lakeshore. Guests take the elevator eight floors up to an uncluttered reception that is styled like a beauty bar, with florescent lighting, turquoise and white decor and a bank of mani/pedi stations positioned in front of flat-screen televisions. Further inside the spa, the real pampering begins, starting with a brownie buffet and cheese platter for ladies to enjoy before being ushered into one of 16 treatment rooms. Jazz and blues standards hum on the speakers while aestheticians tend to tired bones, overgrown areas and muddy complexions with a slew of massages and facials like the Triple Oxygen Facial and Hangover Herbie (hangover not required).
