CRAP HOLE!!!! 11/17/2011

I am giving this place 1 star because of the art work. It makes Toast a more interesting place... Once I over heard a woman ask the owner if she could put up her art work. Left her card even. I just remember they were so cocky and snotty about it. The first turn off for me. But that is not the reason I give this place 1 star... I've been to the place a few times. Mainly for the breakfast and lunch. The first time I was so impressed. I loved the feeling it had. Reminded me of a Brooklyn dive. Plus the food was great. I was so impressed and relieved I found a decent place in Long Island that looked cool and had cool music and most importantly good food. Vegetarian food in my case. I went again. I had another great experience. I went finally 5x or more and it got worst each time. I kept wanting to give them another chance. I was hoping maybe I just ordered the wrong thing or it was a bad day for them. Each time the food got worst and worst. Today was our last!!!!! Today we ordered sweet potato pancakes and tofu scramble. What I got was these soggy gewy gigantic pancakes. That I am still feeling sick from. My mate got the so called tofu scrambled. Not only was the tofu cold and NOT SCRAMBLED, it was old..... I wanted to go to the kitchen and show them how to make a proper tofu scramble..... They are too expensive to be mediocre like this! I don't normally complain and my mate would usually eat anything but it was so bad. Our waitress and the workers are very nice by the way. Not too sure about the owners though.... I wonder if the popularity has gone to their heads. Or did this place always suck. Did they change cooks? What the hell happened to the cute little Brooklyn dive I remembered about 2yrs ago? Maybe I was just desperate to find a half way decent place without 5 TV's and generic music. A place that had some vegetarian food and decent music. Oh and vegetarians DON""T GET THE VEGGIE BURGER it sucks!!! This place has turned into a suburban crap hole.. Never again...... more

Awesome breakfast 10/7/2008

I had a hard time choosing what to eat, everything on this menu looks extremely tasty. I had a breakfast burrito and the eggs were perfectly cooked. My husband had the croissant french toast with a warm, pom-berry compost and that was OUTTA THIS WORLD! I'm going back this week just to have that again. A little pricey, but worth every cent. On the weekends, be prepared to wait at least 30 min. for a table. Pros: Great food! Cons: Small place, had to wait for a table. A little pricey, but worth it. more

Never again 4/21/2008

Went to Toast this past Saturday evening with 3 of my girlfriends. They no longer serve fondue - it's now a wine bar/tapas menu. Food was decent but pricey, wine was $9 a glass, they don't have steak knives so you have to cut your meat with a butter knife. Had 3 different serving people even though we were the only table in the restaurant. Waiter doesn't write the order down so 2 of the entrees came out wrong and we all ended up eating at different times. Another waiter spilled food all over one of my girlfriends but was apologetic enough. They actually charged us for extra sour cream to go with our quesadillas. I dont know about you but a teaspoon of sour cream isn't going to cut it with a whole quesadilla. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. more

breakfast by day, fondue by night 2/13/2008

i have been to toast at least a half dozen times and my family has been there several times for both breakfast and fondue in the evening. it is very charming and quaint and an absolute must for the area. i'm from port jeff and there's never been anything like it. i wish them luck. however, last weekend six of us went for breakfast and my sis and i both developed the stomach flu. there's a difference between that and food contamination. the former, i believe is worse, because it is human borne, not food borne. there were many people behind there counter and many different people came to our table throughout. a party of six is not huge. my concern has always been cleanliness at toast. two others at our party felt sick a day later. i know it can happen anywhere, but we eat out all the time at all types of places and this has never happened. so all i can say is if you get sick anywhere, call the restaurant and tell them so they can keep washing their hands and keep germs to a minimum. Pros: very different for port jeff and a welcome addition to the other frumpy places Cons: never the same staff, host was too panicky and in turn, rude more

Great Dessert Great Wine Great Time 3/17/2006

Toast - Just steps from the Long Island Sound and Port Jeff Ferry is the perfect place for an after date desert. The Atmosphere is that of a high class Starbucks with more character, its decorated warmly with walls adorned in local artwork; you can't help but feel cozy in here. Nestled in the cape cod-ish feeling of Port Jeff which adds to the ambiance. The Fondue is what to come for. Two dine for 24.99. Portions are generous, a pot of either delicious chocolate or white chocolate warmed witha candle is surrounded by a diverse range of fillers to dip, which are UNLIMITED! This is also great for groups. The wine list is also extensive, try a bottle of Dr. Loosens Riesling with your fondue, its heaven. Some nights theres live entertainment. Enjoy. Pros: Fondue, Wine Selection, Atmosphere/Location Cons: Good only for desert, closed mon - thurs more
