Love their baroque artworks 10/7/2005

This is the best place to go to get a glimpse of the history of early western art. I love their Baroque pieces, as it brings you back in time with Rembrant To my suprise they also have a few pieces of the Roccoco Era in their fancy, light, and decorative styles. It's a place you can go agian and again and always find something new, or come out with a new inspiration....if you love art history that is... more

One of San Diego's few free art museums 8/12/2005

This museum features mostly 13th-century altarpieces, and 18th-century portraits to 19th-century still lifes. They have a fairly large collection but most of the artists you've never really heard of. It is adjacent to the San Diego Museum of Art, which is the city's flagship art repository, so it pales in comparison. But if you happen to be in Balboa Park the Timken is definitely worth a look and a bit of your time. more

So-So 8/5/2005

After being inspired by the San Diego Museum Of Art, my wife and I decided to check this place out. It seemed very 'up-scale' and not very public friendly. Although the artwork was very nice, it just really wasn't my type of atmosphere. I would suggest this place to real art cricits. more

A free art museum in Balboa Park! 8/3/2005

The Timken Museum of Art is free to visit. It is a very small museum but I still had a great time. The paintings are extremely old and most of them have biblical references. I don't usually enjoy religious art as much as I did at my museum visit. It just amazed me that the art could be so old. The rooms are mainly divided by what country the art is from. It was interesting to see the differences. They do have a room of american art. That stuff is the newer stuff. more
