My new favorite neighborhood dinning spot 4/25/2010

Went on a Thursday night with my girlfriend and found that this place is a winner for dates! Very cozy and intimate. Live jazz guitar made for a great fun atmosphere. The server was really friendly and helpful with the menu. We ordered seared salmon and steak with a bottle of wonderful red wine. Both meals were so good that we ended up switching plates! The owner even came out to check on everything and chat for a bit. With these prices you can't beat the food and the experience that you get in return. They're even starting a half-price Happy Hour! A one of a kind restaurant. We'll definitely be back! Pros: Prices, Portions, People more

Its time to enjoy sidewalk dinning 6/7/2009

The Thomas Street Bistro is a cornucopia of savory entrees and fine wines surrounded by old world ambiance and live melodic music. Its central location catty-corner to Thomas Street Park on Capitol Hill makes for a quiet romantic dinner within its intimate surroundings. Also the devoted warm and friendly eclectic patrons can enhance your dinning experience with enjoyable lively conversations. Alan, the owner, recently added for the warmer days of spring and summer an array of out door tables under a delightful maroon canopy. The slightly angled sidewalk has been transformed with innovative level tables, This creative solution has added additional seating and takes the worry out of your fine wine and succulent culinary entrees made fresh daily from sliding off the table instead of into your mouth. Great care in service anticipates your needs and freshly brewed piping hot coffee with complementary desert culminates for a wonderful dinning experience on anyone’s budget. Alan also welcomes you to come just for a glass of wine and enjoy the diverse young local up and coming musical artists. Escape the ordinary vicissitudes of life for another time. Treat yourself to Thomas Street Bistro as your next dinning destination. Pros: Intimate Surrounding Cons: none more

Great Value 5/5/2009

This is a real find. The food is excellent and all locally-sourced and prepared by the owner. The price is right. He throws in lots of free things such as appetizers and dessert. Some place deserve success; others don't. This one deserves our support! more

Great place to take a date! 3/29/2009

This is a great place to take a date for a romantic dinner. The service was excellent, live music right next to you, food was delicious, all and all a great place to dine. For such a great dinner the prices are very affordable. Will definitely come back again! Pros: Great food, fantastic atmosphere, Good prices Cons: Rather small, but hardly much of a drawback more

Take your date here guys!!! 2/6/2009

This place was a very unique experience, and definetly a romantic one, which is hard to find in seatle if you want coziness as well. I took my girlfriend here last friday night and we had the greatest time. The food was spiced very tastefully, service was quick, and true. The live music in the place was great, a musician would be playing piano guitar and singing. Definetly a place to come back too.....Soon more

The food is really bad 2/4/2009

I don't understand why this place is still in business unless it's the quaint atmosphere. But you can't eat atmosphere. And if you could, you wouldn't want to order it here. Note also the report of possible food-borne illness posted by an earlier reviewer. Never again! Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Cr@ppy food more

Intimate dining, good food, and nice wine. 7/18/2008

My partner and I have taken to this small bistro over several months. It is a refreshing change from the larger and noisier restaurants on Broadway and Pike. With only half a dozen tables and the owner serving, this is a very intimate dining experience. The wine menu is short, but the selections are very good and very well priced. The food menu is short as well. While the menu remains the same, the actual dish served has some presentation variability. The food is good and about the right size for a two or three course meal. The decor is folksy with pink walls and a touch of either midwest grandma or rural french accessories. The piano and guitar player and his friend are personable and take requests and somehow even though neither seems to be truly familiar enough with the piece to offer it, the scattered notes somehow enhance the overall dining experience. We return for the quieter dining experience, the good food, and a nice bottle of wine after a long work week. Pros: Quieter dining experience and nice reasonably priced wine list Cons: Food presentation variability and folksy decor more

Up and Comming 7/2/2008

I first ate here a months ago when it really newly opened I really the, food, desserts, and service (Average). After hearing there was a drink special went back last nigt with my husband for dinner. It was much different than my first impression. The service was great, I the food was excellent Above Average), the dessert still needs some work but overall was very pleased with everything. Pros: Giving back to Charity, Nice Service, Very Affordable Cons: No Wheelchair Access, Needs better Desserts more

A little piece of heaven 7/2/2008

I heard about this little restaurant from a sign they had on the street. My boyfriend and i went, and were very pleased with the cozy romantic environment. We found out the beer selection was less than satesfactory. They only had one or two beers, but they said they were going to get more in soon. Other than that the food was amazing, the service was great. We also got a really nice little slice of cheesecake on the house. all in all, I recomend this restaurant to everyone. I was very pleased. And the prices were AMAZING. Pros: food, service, low price Cons: beer selection more

Quirky little bistro 6/20/2008

We had read both good and bad reviews about this place but went there at a friend's suggestion. The room is tiny, too small for dinner, actually, especially with the piano taking up half of one of the walls. The host was gracious and we were promptly attended to. Unfortunately the food left lots to be desired - the appetizers were pathetic and the entrees merely mediocre. The chocolate cake for dessert was excellent, though. In sum, this place could use some reworking, from the layout of the room to the choices on the menu. Let's hope that the proprietor sees the light and makes some needed changes. Pros: Interesting location, live music Cons: Quality of the food more

dinner is horrible in this place!!!!! Nasty dishes and food. 4/13/2008

This past Saturday night, I and my husband decided to check out the Thomas St. Bistro on Cap Hill. The food was disappointing. my husband's baked pasta was so bland and tastless. ( we just tasted bland cheese and pepper) something important was missing!( maybe spice?) I don't know why this restaurant has such a good review..., live music was good, but the pianist left during the dinner . We were certainly disappointed. Our table was pretty DIRTY and No candle on. Do they even clean up plates? we got the worst experience...the plate was dirty. our watress was nice though... if you really enjoy food, i don't recommend Thomas St. Bistro. more

Wonderful little place... 4/13/2008

This little bistro came up on my alaska airlines rewards plan, hence triple mileage points drew my boyfriend and I in at first...the ambiance and delicious food made us want to keep coming back. The owner was wonderful and friendly, sitting down to have a nice chat about our upcoming trip to Europe, which he possesses vast knowledge of. The meal itself was excellent, leaving nothing to be desired. I absolutely recommend this restaurant. more

Di A Area Explosion! 4/12/2008

My wife and I ate here last Sat., Food was okay. .Service was average..Interior was horrible( grandma style)and 15 mins later my wife was in the grips of some of the worst Di A Area the world has ever seen. After the Di A Area started to fade she up chucked the entire meal she just ate. Enjoy! Pros: Easy access to the front door. Cons: Poisonious food. more

Best kept secret on Capitol Hill 4/12/2008

This past Friday night, my wife and I, on a whim, decided to check out the Thomas St. Bistro. It was just a few blocks from our apartment, and it looked (and smelled) amazing from the street. We were certainly not disappointed. The food was delicious (and, dare I say, authentic), the ambience was perfect (live music was a beautiful and classy touch) and the owner couldn't have been friendlier. The prices, even, for a place so small and nice, were shockingly low. We enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to come back the next afternoon for brunch, which may have been even better! Take my advice, walk the few extra blocks off broadway and enjoy the best new restaurant in our neighborhood. more

most romantic atmosphere ever 4/12/2008

If you live in capitol hill and you love REAL food you have to try thomas street bistro! Its just a matter of time before this place will have a line waiting outside. This place is so small and the food is cooked on the spot. I went there with two friends and we were treated like old friends. We got so much for what we paid, it was definitely worth it. I had eggplant and it was really good, the stuffed pepper appetizer was to die for! I will definitely be back for more. The atmosphere was very warm and cozy with a cute guitarist playing in the background, which made it very European-style-like. I loved it! Pros: ambience, service, food Cons: parking more

Romantic Dinner Destination-Now Taking Valentine's Day Reservations

Editorial
  • In Short
With six tables, few waiters, a live guitarist and an owner that comes around to talk to you at your table, this tiny Capitol Hill restaurant is the embodiment of quaintness. The soft pink walls round out the dowdy French feeling, even if the clientele, hailing from the surrounding neighborhood, is a bit hipper than the décor. The menu offers fresh takes on classic meats, such as chicken breast stuffed with goat milk feta or pork chops in pomegranate glaze.
