AMAZING VALUE FOR MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT 8/31/2009

I started classes at The Yoga Space a month and a half ago, and from my first sun salutation, I?ve felt so at home in the studio that Michele Loew (owner and one of the teachers) has created. I hadn?t been to a yoga class for about ten years, and have found wisdom, compassion, and support from all of the teachers I?ve worked with?they really know their stuff and are so attentive to the individual needs and abilities of each student. I have a lot of tightness in my hips as well as trouble with my knees, and all of the teachers (I?ve worked with eight of them), well-versed in body mechanics, have helped me in finding modifications to safely support my particular practice. Michele embodies yoga philosophy and spirituality, and I?ve found great depth and healing, as well as nourishment for mind, body, and spirit in the classes she and her colleagues offer to the community. On a practical note, the classes are offered at times that can accommodate any work or life schedule--morning, noon and night. The classes and teachers and styles also cover a broad spectrum, from ones that allow me to work up a sweat and really get my energy moving to those that allow for more subtle restoration and healing. AND, they offer really affordable rates--$5 community classes twice a week and great packages. I did a month of unlimited yoga for $120 and went to class almost every day, which came out to about $6/class! Pros: expert teachers, affordable variety of classes, great vibe Cons: none! more

Best Yoga Studio in Portland 1/9/2009

The Yoga Space in a community based studio located on SE 29th and Stark that has something to offer to everyone. Beginning, intermediate and advanced students can choose from a myriad of classes offered morning, noon, or night, seven days a week. The classes are amongst the most affordable in the city and the experienced teachers are devoted to sharing yoga with all. They even offer a five dollar community based class and a donation based meditation clsss! The Yoga Space is a warm, hospitable environment where one can explore the practice of yoga. I have been practicing yoga for 16 years and The Yoga Space remains my favorite place to practice. It is a very special studio for many reasons and if one is interested in exploring yoga I couldn't recommend The Yoga Space more highly. more

Love this 'Space'! 1/7/2009

I love this studio! The instructors are not only incredibly educated but compassionate to all levels. I have been to many studios through the years...and this is the best one. :) In other studios, I would go and eventually get injured and have to stop...frustrated. With the Yoga Space, that hasn't happened, because they focus on your alignment and your pace...and make sure it fits for you. more

Great Studio! 1/7/2009

I have practiced at most of the yoga studios around town and can easily say ""This is the best studio in Portland""! The instructors are warm, compassionate and knowledgeable. The studio offers many classes, so there is something for everyone, it doesn't matter if you are a beginner or the most experienced yogi, you will find something!! The practice space is warm, as well as inviting. The instructors have offered me many helpful adjustments to my postures to help with my alignment. Pros: great community of instructors and practioners, offers many classes Cons: some road noise more

Best Yoga in Portland 1/6/2009

Seriously, I've been studying yoga for over 15 years with a wide variety of teachers and styles, and I feel like I've finally found 'home' for my yoga practice at The Yoga Space. The teachers at The Yoga Space have a gift for blending the physical practice of yoga with mindfulness. They are also wonderful at taking requests and tailoring class to meet the needs of those present while also providing a well balanced practice. They have an in-depth understanding of how to modify your practice (and specific poses) to address individual issue (injury recovery, notoriously tight areas etc.) and their adjustments work wonderfully to help you get the best out of your yoga practice. The studio has a friendly community atmosphere with beautiful hardwood floors. Pros: Excellent instructors, great atmosphere and sunny space, support for working at your own level. Cons: No waiting room more

GREAT SE PORTLAND YOGA STUDIO! 1/5/2009

The Yoga Space is a great place to practice yoga with my favorite teachers in Portland. The atmosphere is non-competitive and warm and has a great SE Portland community feel. The teaching is very authentic and the teachers know how to give great adjustments and instructions for beginning and advanced alike. All the Vinyasa classes are great, and they have a great Restorative class on Sundays. Pros: THE YOGA, SERVICE, TEACHERS, ATMOSPHERE, LOCATION, FEES & COMMUNITY CLASS PRICES ARE GREAT Cons: A LITTLE BIT OF STREET NOISE, BUT DISAPPEARS AFTER A WHILE more
