New chef 2/6/2012

there is a new chef here since December. the kid can bring it. we enjoyed his new year's eve menu greatly and what we saw adverstised for valentine's day sounds great. we are regulars (live just around the corner) and this place has been more packed than it used to be - the secret is out. the food here is top notch. they should call it the ""food and wine shop"".\r \r also love the wine (and beer) selection here. the staff is really knowledgable and always willing to make a recommendation. \r \r definitely one of my favorite places in town on a friday or saturday night date night with the mrs. more

Corking Fee Policy is Tacky 11/20/2011

I have been to The Wine Shop many times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and wine selection. Because of great experiences in the past, I was very disappointed by my most recent trip. My husband and I were looking forward to a late afternoon snack and drink. I selected a bottle of wine that was $21 only to find that The Wine Shop has a $10 corking fee.....for their own bottles!! Apparently, all bottles under $30 (bought in-store) come with a $10 corking fee. This ""nickel-and-diming"" policy is just tacky. Needless to say, we went elsewhere. Wine Shop, I really hope you will rethink this policy. more

Eating Chocolate Cake Here Should Be On Your List of 100 Things To Do Before You Die!!!! 11/21/2008

The Wine Shoppe at Foxcroft has a new location in Rivergate [The Wine Shoppe at Rivergate!] and you can see from the parking lot that it's a place you want to hang out! Warm lighting, lava orange walls, a cozy loft space upstairs and a super modern wine bar can all be checked out as you cruise by in your car! Go inside! Order the flourless chocolate cake! Of course the wine and coffee are delicious too! But this was the best chocolate cake I've eaten in my 27 years on this planet!\r I am a healthy eater so when I indulge, I expect it to be worth it! And, it was! The chocolate cake has a rich cheesecake-like consistency and arrives on a saucer with rich whipped cream, a cappucino drizzle sauce [ask for extra sauce to dip forkfulls of cake in!] and a saucy strawberry!\r The Wine Shoppe at Rivergate should be your next stop this weekend!!!!! Pros: At the new Rivergate location: friendly engaging staff, awesome interior [orange walls, coffeeshop vibe] great wines and amazing desserts! more

Great new Chef 1/29/2008

I met their new Chef, Andrew, at the Charlotte Farmers' Market on Yorkmont last Saturday, and decided to bring my husband by since we live in the South Park area. We had tried the place before when Noble's was doing the food and weren't overly impressed, but after talking with Andrew about the changes, we decided to give it another shot. Boy, were we glad we did. The new sandwich menu looks great; we tried the California Club, and it was incredible. The frisee salad was very good as well. Our server was very knowledgable about the wines too. We will definitely recommend this place to all our friends. Pros: Great food and wine, nice neighborhood atmosphere Cons: Limited menu, small tables more

My little secret 1/26/2008

The Wine Shop @ Foxcroft has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat. My husband and I started going there occasionally on Friday and Saturday nights and liked it but recently we ate there and the menu had changed and they had a new (cute) chef in the kitchen. We were amazed with the food. My husband's Cuban sandwich was the best sandwich he said he had ever eaten and everything I had was great, especially dessert. Our bartender's knowledge of the wine was also very helpful, but not pretentious (sp?). We will definitely be back next date night... Pros: great wines by the glass selection, top-notch food for deli prices Cons: small tables more

One of those great hidden treasures 10/18/2007

I was told about this place a few months ago. I was in the area on business so I stopped by. This is one of those places I'll put on my list to visit ANY time I come to town. I'm VERY picky when it comes to wine. Conrad, the shop owner, really took his time to make me feel comfortable and informed as to some great options. His experience and confidence really makes this a unique place to get a bottle or a glass of wine, have a bite and just...relax.\r \r I appreciate and will always go out of my way for quality. This place, I heard so much about, exceeded my expectations. Pros: Wide selection, expert knowlege and a great date place Cons: They are not in my home town. more
