Things are not always as they are portrayed. After spending 2 MONTHS reading reviews and searching for a new waxer I was happy to find a place that was open that worked with my schedule.\r \r After going through the process of reading what they offered for male services and booking a scheduled appointment just short of a week in advance I was happy to receive an email and text CONFIRMING my appointment and requested service.\r \r I again received a reminder of my appointment the night before. So imagine my surprise when I got up this morning 3 hours before my appointment with a voicemail telling me they do NOT offer the selected AND confirmed service/appointment for males.\r \r To make things worse, THEY have a 12 hour cancellation policy with $25 fee charged to the credit card on file. My appointment was made 6 days in advanced yet THEY cancelled me with 3 hours notice.\r \r I am just grossly disappointment in the unprofessionalism and will tell everyone I know about it. more

The Wax Shack had lots of great reviews and that's what drew me in. I had one wax (Brazilian/brow) and the experience was overall positive--although I noted that Angie didn't really listen to my concerns or indulge questions. When I said I preferred a different eyebrow shape, one that didn't lay quite so flat along the brow, she said, ""oh, you look great. It's perfect."" Also, when I asked about the amount of hair coming off, ""down there,"" because I was a bit confused about the difference between a Brazilian and a Parisian, again, she just shut me down and went to town. I didn't want so much of my hair gone but she wanted to do it her way and didn't listen. more

Best Brazilian 10/10/2011

I recently moved from New York to Portland and have been in search of a local salon to do my monthly brazilian..after trying out a few different places, I found Angie at the Wax Shack. I will never go anywhere else! Angie is fun, efficient, and reasonably priced. I have never had a quicker or less painful wax in my life! Its amazing- I no longer dread this monthly appointment, in fact I even look forward to it (is that weird?!) 5 stars and 2 thumbs up! more

Best Wax in Portland for the $$$ 9/2/2011

Emily is amazing! The Wax Shack is a no-nonsense salon right outside the Pearl with free parking, and a really low price for a really great wax! She was fast and thorough, and kept me distracted with good conversation the whole time. It's hard to be totally at ease with no pants on sometimes - but not at the Wax Shack! You will not be dissapointed if you try this place! more

Best Brazilian at the Best Price! 3/11/2010

I had a little issue with transportation getting to my appointment so I was about 30 minutes late, but Angie was totally understanding! She managed to squeeze me in later even though her whole day was booked. This was my first wax, but it was an excellent experience (well, as excellent as getting the hair torn out of your nether regions can be...). The waxing process was barely painful at all and Angie was great about distracting me from any discomfort with conversation. The whole thing was done amazingly fast! Pros: price, friendliness, speed, very little pain! Cons: location is a little out of the way for public transit more

Amazing Brazilian & Top Notch Service 1/31/2010

Angie is very professional, yet extremely fun and cares deeply for her clients. I know because I have been a loyal client of Angie's since the 90s. Angie pays attention to the detail of her work, all the while connecting with her clients to make then feel welcomed, comfortable and cared for. Pros: Best Waxing and Facials EVER! You will not be disappointed!! 1/30/2010

I wanted to surprise my boyfriend by getting a brazilian and I was nervous because my previous experiences have been a little scary (mostly including burns and LOTS of pain). Angie was so nice and professional and made me feel at ease. When she said she was done, I was shocked! It definitely didn't hurt like before and it was over really quickly. I will most definitely return and I recommend it to everyone. Pros: professionalism, price, AWESOME wax Cons: none more

Best Brazilian in Portland 12/16/2009

When I moved to Portland 2 years ago I was really sad to leave my waxer behind. It was hard for me to find someone I liked and trusted to do my brazilian waxing and I was not looking forward to doing it in a new town all over again. I went to a number of salons and things to get waxed here in town and when I met Angie at the Wax Shack I knew I had found the perfect replacement. She is terrific. Very sweet, fast and professional, and so affordable. Honestly, the best wax I've ever had. After Angie was done with me, I had absolutely no left over hairs straggling behind and was smooth for even longer than I had been with previous waxes. I highly recommend Angie. My only wish is that she had a nice building all to herself with a comfy waiting room instead of the one room that she has now. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is coming soon. Pros: Best Wax at Best Price Cons: Storefront would be nice more

First timers - go to the wax shack!!! 7/9/2009

This was my first time getting a bikini wax and I decided to go for a full brazillian. I was immediatley made comfortable and the witty banter made the experience less stressful. You may not believe this but I swear it barely hurt at all!!! She is very quick and well priced (I did my homework) and I'm so glad I found the wax shack. I'll be making this a regular part of my beautification! more

The Wax Shack is AMAZING!! 4/5/2009

This was my first time getting my eyebrows done, and I was very nervous to say the least. I am a red-head, so I was scared that my brows would turn out to be two tiny black lines above my eyes.. but the result was far from that. She made my eyebrows literally PERFECT. They are so beautiful, just the right shape, and not too dark. Angie was great too :) within 5 minutes she makes you feel like you are hanging out with your best friend. It was an amazing experience. I will recommend her to everyone I know, and I can't wait to go back to her for all of my waxing needs!! Pros: Great wax, affordable, very clean, Angie is wonderful!! Great experience! 3/26/2009

Angie gave me my first brazilian, and it went way better than I expected. I'm not gonna say it didn'r hurt- cause it did! But, she is great at distracting you and keeping conversation moving. By the end of it I felt like I'd known her for years and she did a great job. I will recommend her to my friends and plan on going back to her again and again. I just had my very first Brazilian and I was nervous to say the least. Angie made me feel so comfortable and really put me at ease! She was very quick and is very good at what she does. At first I thought this would be a one time thing, but after seeing how great she is, I've decided to make it a regular thing! more

easy atmosphere, great service, Angie is very talented and great and what she does. If you are looking for a super fancy expensive salon experience then keep on looking, but if what you what is great service for a very fair price then call. more

best wax ever 9/26/2008

I went to Angie for my first brazilian wax and was terrified. She made me feel at ease and talked to me the whole time. It really was quite painless and I plan on going back to have it done again. I have raved about her to all my friends....she also has the best deal I have seen! I will be going back, for sure! Pros: best price in town Cons: I didn't meet her sooner! more

Best Waxer Ever 8/8/2008

I live in LA, and I was up here for my wedding and needed to get waxed. I was BLOWN away by the quality of service Angie provides. It was the most painless bikini wax I had ever had, as well as the most reasonably priced. I pay almost double at high end salons in LA for what Angie does, and she's better at it! I'll make visiting Angie a staple of my trips back to Portland. more

Most comfortable waxing experience in Portland 6/17/2008

I have been seeing Angie for over 6 years now - starting from when she worked at the Face Place, then Equilibria, and through both of her Wax Shack locations. From the first appointment I have had only positive experiences with Angie. She is gentle and makes otherwise awkward situations totally comfortable! I highly recommend coming here, I know I will never go anywhere else! more
