When we got to Trace, we had hoped for a nice dining experience. it was all but that. when we recieved our dinner, two of the three steaks ordered were not prepared as requested....

The Trace is now CLOSED. 5/20/2008

I just tried to call to make reservations today, and the number is disconnected and their website has been removed. I finally found a phone number for their previous Private Party/Banquet Planner, and she informed me that they have closed and a new restaurant will be moving in. So, we'll see! Pros: N/A Cons: CLOSED more

Righting the ship 4/17/2007

I recently dined at the Trace after taking a bit of a hiatus, and was so happy that what once was a Nashville hot spot, seems to be picking back up. The food quality has improved, and the presentations are, of course, top notch. Bar service can be a bit slow on a busy night, but overall I enjoyed myself. I'll keep coming back. Pros: Food Cons: Drink prices more

Good restaurant, great atmosphere, good service 1/20/2007

I had dinner at the Trace last week with four of my girl friends and we had a great experience. We all like good food and we were not disappointed. Our bruschetta and calamari apps were great. All of our meals with outstanding. I have never seen such great presentation on a plate, except in New York. I had the Grouper with bacon and pear sauce, incredible. It took a little while for our meals to get there, but the server kept us informed and explained it takes a little longer, because everything is made from scratch. It took a total of about 25 minutes, not too bad in all. The wine list was a little overwhelming, but they had enough wines by the glass, that we were able to try several different wines. The pours on the wine were very generous compared to what I had at Watermark the week before. Dessert was just as good, we had the chocolate molten cake and white chocolate bread pudding. Wow, these were hot and rich. A great way to end the meal. We ended up stayiing for about an hour after dinner. The place was packed with people in the bar area. We met a lot of fun people. We will back back soon. Pros: atmosphere, food, wine list Cons: busy more

Take it away 12/15/2006

When we got to Trace, we had hoped for a nice dining experience. it was all but that. when we recieved our dinner, two of the three steaks ordered were not prepared as requested. the server then dropped the food on my friend, brought a cleaning solution, and walked way. when the third steak was brought out it had been butterflied. and anyone who knows good filet, knows it should never be butterflied, especially when not asked. Our food was aweful. the steaks were flavorless, andthe veggies were not cooked all the way. not even half way through the meal (still having over half of the food on our plates) the server took our plates with out asking if we were finished, and never asked how our meal was. she then had dopped off the dessert menu w/o saying a word. we were still charged a rediculous amount of money for food with the quality of a cheap restaurant. for a $100 we expect a little class and delicious food. Pros: good location Cons: poor service, value of the meal was poor, cramped more

Great jazz brunch 11/17/2006

I love the Sunday brunch at the Trace, great food and jazz music. It is also one of my favorite spots to grab a drink after work. more

Great atmosphere and well presented and tasty food 7/16/2006

I dined at the Trace this last weekend with some girl friends and we had a great time. Our server Ryan and he was great. We had a couple of apps, including the Calamari and Bruschetta and they were very good. For entrees we had the Halibut, Salmon and Pork Tenderloin. All tasted great and the presentation and first impression was incredible. We finished off with the Chocolate Molten Cake and that was fabulous for us chocolate lovers. The atmosphere was great as well. We had drinks after dinner and did not feel like we were in a meat market with guys hitting on us all the time. Classy customers for the most part. We will be back soon. Pros: Food, atmosphere, service Cons: small bathroom more

Just OK 5/19/2006

After being referred to The Trace and reading some reviews we decided to go here, however we were pretty disappointed in our overall dining experience. We made reservations and requested a ""good table"", yet we were seated near the women's restroom. We were also seated with dirty wine glasses. Meal was OK but overpriced. Drinks were decent. If we were to return, we would request a table at the open window and only go for drinks and light fare. Pros: Drink menu Cons: Seating, Value of food more

Great Time 5/18/2006

I dined at The Trace last weekend and it was the first time I'd been in several years. The food was great and the wine list is incredible. My date and I have decided it's our new favorite. We will definitely be back in soon. more

Great as a bar, so-so for dinner 4/25/2006

I agree with many of the reviews on here - the drinks, small dishes, trendy atmosphere and decor are fabulous. However, for a full dinner, the prices are too high for mediocre food and so-so service. The Trace is great for a martini, appetizer and socializing stop but not worth the price for much more than that. Pros: Great martinis, Creative Decor, See and be seen! Cons: overpriced, So-so food, smoky more

Totally Mediocre with a Fancy Menu 3/29/2006

The appetizers (crab cakes and bruschetta) were outstanding. The entrees were nothing special. The shrimp gnocchi was better than the duck I ordered. Worst part: my mashed potatoes were ice box cold. They tried to warm it up, but the interior was still chilly. In short: nice wine list, and good atmosphere for the easily-impressed. However, people who are serious about fine and progressive dining won't be so easily swayed. The menu itself (as in the words) are just trying too hard to sound fancy. But, it's a nice place for the unsophisticated who will be impressed by the descriptions, prices, and plating. Another word of caution: part of the dining area is adjacent to the bar, which is smoky. Tin Angel is more inventive, Cheesecake Factory is more diverse, and Melting Pot is more romantic. All three offer a better dining experience for a slightly lower price point. Pros: Trendy, Service Cons: Overpriced more

User review by openfire 1/7/2006

The service was alright, very polite but also quite slow. Our waitress didn't seem to know much about the menu when asked for recommendations. The food was mediocre at best, at least for the price. The bartender was loud and could be heard from our table in the front dining area. Even mocked customers and waitresses audibly. Dining area was a little cramped and we could hear all conversations around us, not a ""classy"" vibe. Overall, a mediocre dining experience, expected much better, especially in the village. more

Thanks for the reviews 10/26/2005

I ate here about 4 years ago. ""Ok"" or ""just alright"" are my initial thoughts when I try to think back. Then again, I dont remember the name of the dame I ate with either. It's time I try again due to the numerous good reviews, and look forward to posting a my own soon. more

First Date 8/18/2005

I have always heard great things about this restaurant but had never dined there before. I was more than impressed as was my date for the evening. The food was truely the best I have had in Nashville and the atmosphere was perfect for a first date. Very romantic and classy, yet not overly formal. I will definitely be back again soon. more

ECLECTIC TO SAY THE LEAST!!!!! 7/29/2005

I personally apologize for all bad reviews!! Really, people can speak their minds, but even our assistant server was the most polite and gratuitous individual. Since when your experience says it all........my companion and i were there Friday night and had the most terrific time. Food, fun and friends all absolutely wonderful!! Please Enjoy!! Pros: good parking, personable service Cons: drinks R extra strong more

Will not eat here again... 7/24/2005

A friend of mine and I ate in the front dining area at around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23. Our waitress first appeared at the table rather quickly, and then we waited, and waited and waited... She was cordial, but we nearly starved waiting to give her our orders and then getting our food. I had the pork tenderloin, which was bland and overpriced. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I would certainly never take a date there. (Quick addition - the menu was not all that it could be.) I would go elsewhere if you want to have a pleasurable dining experience. Pros: Atmosphere, Location Cons: Overpriced, Limited menu, Bad wait staff more

Service In Dining Room Ruins Experience 7/2/2005

Food very good and creative. Have eaten here many times. I will not eat dinner in dining area again, as the service is always consistently the worst. The staff is rude and acts like they are inconvenienced by having to wait on you. Ruins the entire experience! Everyone I know who has eaten there has had similar experiences. The reviews here claiming good service, sound as if the owner wrote them, and obviously don't reflect reality. The exception- the bartenders are all great, consummate professionals. Would not take clients or date in dining room again, even if it were on the house. Pros: food, bartenders Cons: dining room service more

Great for Business Dinners 6/21/2005

I recently took 12 of my VIP clients to The Trace for dinner. They provided us with a private room and put together an amazing customized menu for us. The service was great and the food was some of the best I've ever had. It was a fantastic evening! more

New Owner recreates the Trace 6/14/2005

A new owner took over the Trace a few months ago and the food is incredible. We had the Shrimp Gnoochi and Sea Scallops. They were incredible. Also, they have every wine you could ever want. I think they had like 300 or 400 wines to choose from by the bottle and over a 100 by the glass. The atmosphere was cool. Also, they opened up the Patio room on the side with this great big plasma TV and projection screen where they were showing music DVDs Pros: Great food, Great wine, Good service Cons: Can get crowded more

Doin' a great job 7/19/2003

The Trace is one of my triage of restaurants that provide consistently great food, at fair prices, and with good atmosphere and service. The staff may appear to be a little snobby at times, but the management keeps them on their toes. Plus, this is in the middle of the village, so a little snotty attitude, at times, should be expected and is a small price to pay for the good food and atmosphere. more
