I really enjoy The Stockyard. The food is good, the prices are right and the portions are big. The atmosphere is very enjoyable as well. I have had a few experiences with the service being slow. more

Delicious Prime Rib 7/16/2007

I love the Stockyard. I went with my girlfriend one night and while we were waiting to be seated, we had a few drinks at the bar and some appetizers. The bartender was a really cool, funny guy and the clam chowder was really good. When we were seated, I ordered the prime rib, my girlfriend got the filet mignon. Her filet was cooked perfectly and she really enjoyed it. My prime rib was fantastic; it was huge and cooked perfectly. It was so good that I was literally laughing as I ate it. I will definitely visit again soon; great meats. Pros: Quality, service, parking, decor Cons: None really more

unbeatable for the price 6/23/2007

the stockyard can grow on you and become your favorite restaurant in boston. one reason is that it has the friendliest and the best bartenders in boston. what a great crew. second the food. the prime rib and filet mignon simply can't be beat for the price. you have to pay twice at least for the same quality in the upscale steakhouses in boston and you will get half the quality anywhere else for the stockyard price. i don't believe how good the steaks are. the burgers are a great deal. the sliders are to die for. the lobster pie (and lobster roll) are special. my mother has had her share of lobster pies in boston and claims that the stockyard's are the best. but a word of caution. this is a restaurant that is also something of a sports bar. it is not a great romantic restaurant. the prices are great but that means you can't expect table hote service. you are getting a great deal but that's the tradeoff. this is a place for people who care about getting their money's worth; its not the expense account crowd. so there are real bostonians here or really smart tourists. its hard to have a bad meal. a lot of items are terrific like the baby back ribs. get extra sauce. Pros: best value for the money anywhere Cons: not romantic, not expense account service more

Unsavory food, unprofessional waiter 5/4/2007

I used to be a loyal diner at stockyard. It is not the capital grille but I was willing to sacrifice the side dishes and services for some good prime rib. After tonight I will make sure to tell everyone I know to not go there. It was possibly the worst dining experience of my life. \r \r First, my boyfriend and I were seated outside of the main dining room in the ?cafe? area next to a teenage birthday party. I thought ?no problem, I?m here for the beef.? Then our waiter threw the menus on the table and walked away without a word. When he came back to take our order, he was cold and abrasive. I was a bit put-off but I shrugged it off thinking maybe he was having a tough day. But then I saw him being very warm and friendly toward the teenage girls sitting next to us offering to take pictures for them etc. H was way too busy flirting with teenage girls to even offer us bread. \r \r Though I still can?t believe it, our waiter then proceeded to sit down next to the teenage girls at their table and cracked open a bottle of Perrier. He was having a great time chatting with the girls while watching the sox game on TV. Meanwhile, it has been 25 minutes since we sat down and we were still waiting for our food. That brings me to the food part. When it finally arrived, I was disappointed beyond belief. My ?English Cut? prime rib consists of two thin pieces of meat, 30% of which was non-editable fat. The sirloin on my boyfriend salad looked like it had been sitting in a fridge for couple of days. \r \r In sum, the unsavory food coupled with atrocious and unprofessional service make stockyard a ?never again? restaurant for me.\r more

Best lobster pie anywhere!!!! 12/7/2006

In my opinion the Stockyard is one of the best restaurants in the area. I've been going there since I was a kid. It has a very cozy and comfortable atmosphere, not pretentious at all. Most of the time I get the lobster pie...which is outstanding!!! The prime rib is My wife always orders the Stockyard tips and loves the Margarita Shrimp appetizer. A salad, vegetable and potato are offered with most of the meals. The burgers are really good. I can't comment on the wait staff since I mainly dine at the the bar in the main dining room, but the bar staff have always been friendly and accomodating. I've taken family there for birthdays, etc and we've been seated in the private dining rooms which are spacious and private, I've brought clients there for appetizers and drinks and I've never been disappointed. I would recommend the Stockyard again and again!!! more

Overrated 12/4/2006

I looked at the menu online before driving out there and from the looks of it, and prices, it looked good. We got there and were rudely/barely greeted. We asked the waitress for a drink menu and she just gave me an attitude and asked me what I wanted because they didn't have a drink menu. We had an appetizer and before we were finished she brought us our salads. Before we were done with our salads she brought us our meals. I had the salmon and it was watery, tasteless, and bland. My baked potato was burned on the bottom and my steamed carrots were still crunchy. My boyfriend had some sort of steak and it was burnt on the outside and really raw on the inside (not medium like he ordered). They had us in and out the door in under 35 minutes!! The holiday decorations were tacky. The tv's were loud. I am never the one to write reviews, especially bad ones, but this place was horrible. I was extremely disappointed and I feelt really bad for taking my out of town friends there. Pros: parking Cons: poor service, over priced more

awesome for the price! 10/18/2006

we went last night and although the service was a bit slow, it was busy and our water was always filled. the asparagus was delicious as was my filet mignon perfectly done in medium rare. they ran out of prime rib so my boyfriend had to have the ribeye, but he was very happy with it - also perfectly done in medium rare. you also get a salad, choice of potato and some veggies with your entree, and all for a great price! not the best, atmosphere, a little loud and with tvs at the bar so you'll hear cheers once in a while, but a great place to go out if you're looking for that kind of mood. Pros: prices, steaks Cons: parking, service, ambience more

Stockyard Is #1 3/16/2006

The Stockyard is one of those restaurants that you go to time and again. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, the food is really good and reasonably priced and a great place to have a special function. Their new chef has changed up the menu a bit, some of the old favorites remain with several new additionstry a Petite filet mignon with a FRESH lobster tail or one of the new salads!!! Try the lobster rolla ? pint of FRESH lobster saladyou wont be disappointed!!! The burgers are always perfectanyway you like. My favorite is their mashed potatoes which come with most of the entrees. Their private dining rooms are ideal for birthday parties, rehearsal dinners or meetings. Pros: good food, great atmosphere, pleanty of parking more

Over Done 2/24/2006

My steak was cooked to perfection but the hype was over done. An ordinary salad, marginal service and very small drinks with very big prices made this the most disapointing dinning experience in years. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Pros: Parking Cons: Food, Service, Drinks more

not good 12/7/2005

3 of the 4 people i ate with got their steaks cooked completely wrong (the 4th person didn't have steak and enjoyed their meal). you go to a steak house and expect the temperatures to come out correctly. in fact, that is one of the two pre-req's at a steak house. all of the orders were ordered medium rare and they all came out well done. we all sent our orders back, but they came back 30 minutes later (after waiting for 40 minutes the first time). we all left very disappointed even though they comped all of our dinners. if a steak house can't cook a steak what good is it? more

Overpiced, over rated, not worth the trip. 11/7/2005

I am very sorry to say that I will not return to the Stockyard. I recently went for dinner with family and was overwhelmed by the changes and arrogance. They are open during reconstruction, have a change to the menu, up the prices within the new menu, remove old favorites, and there is no thought to the person who has been the patron for a long time. I agree that it is lacking of natural lighting. It did remind me of a place that my grandparents would have brought me to as a child for a special meal. Before it would have been fun, people cared about their regulars. Now it does not appear to be that way. There is not even a place or person to complain to. There is no email or even a viable web site about the place. Pros: Location, Expensive Cons: Menu choices, Attitude, Waiting Lines more

Poorly prepared Prime Rib 10/25/2005

On our last visit my wife and I sat at the bar for dinner. We have been coming to the Stockyard for over 20 yrs. My wife ordered Prime Rib rare. The rib was served the the middle of the rib was cold. It was returned to the kitchen and upon return had a very salty Au Jus. We complained and the bartender explained they had no control that it was a new executive chef. We will not return Pros: atmosphere, parking, service Cons: prime rib more

The Stockyard is the #1 Choice for #1 Meat Lover 5/13/2005

Saying I love The Stockyard is an understatement. That place is amazing in so many ways. When it comes to the ambience and service, you cannot beat it. Most importantly is the food. It is fabulous!! There bread is always warm. There salads are always fresh. The fillet mignon is absolutely increadible!! You can cut it with a butter knife. I also love their tenderloin tips (always get them with the delightful mashed potatoes). There hambergers are the best around...talk about fresh!! My favorite meat dishes always come from The Stockyard!! If you are not in the mood for meat, there is no need to worry. I love their lobster salad, shrimp cocktail (perfect dipping sauce), tomato and mozzarella, blooming onion, etc. You can NEVER go wrong at The Stockyard!! Pros: good prices, good parking more

Blue Hair Meat&Potatoes Joint 10/12/2004

Perched high above the Mass Turnpike in a dilapidated section of LA (Lower Allston), the Stockyard's windowless 1970s building deadens the senses, which is a good thing given your otherwise outraged reaction when you receive the enormous tab for mediocre steaks served ""family style"" (a euphemism for ""grudgingly""). The sort of place your grandparents took you to for Sunday dinner and which made you either a vegan or a gormand but certainly not a fan of the Stockyard and its ilk. Pros: convenient location, no-brainer menus Cons: , dangerous parking, uninviting more

jstow 6/24/2004

mouth watering steaks at an affordable price. Great sports atmosphere, fantastic bar, great place to go with friends. Pros: Reasonable, Ample Parking, Great location more

Sports drinks and good food 6/2/2004

What a find for a Jock family!! Great big Sports TV's, Huge bar and Great food, not only stakes. Not a quiet romantic place but there are other great places in Boston for that. Great for kids too. I had a rib steak special and it was great as was the rest of the meal. My wife had fish and she loved it. Kids can get burgers if they'd like. Can only make reservations with parties of 6 or more. The Bar and TV's make the wait seem short. Pros: PRICE, QUALITY, SPORTS Cons: , NOT ROMANTIC more

First impressions 2/16/2004

Crabcake appetizer was ok... lots of crab, but a little plain as was the sauce. Ordered surf and turf, scallops were broiled perfectly, but the 8oz.sirloin was mediocre. Too fatty for the size and thin enough to be a thick london broil. Friend had filet mignon instead of usual prime rib (supposedly a never fail order. From four repeat customers) and wasn't thrilled with it. Cut wasn't very good, said he'd never stray from the rib again. Reasonable prices compared to most in town steakhouses. Sat at the bar, bartender was decent as a server. Ambiance was lacking, with bar centering the tables and basketball blaring from the TV's. More a tavern feel than steakhouse. I'd go back, but be wary of steaks until I see what's served next time. If I wanted a *great* steak I'd hit mortons first. Good selection for non-steak eaters too. Pros: Prices are decent, selection, broiled scallops!!!! Cons: , Clean it up a bit!!!, Mediocre butchering more

Get me a Stockburger!!!! 12/6/2002

I think this is a great place to have a night out. The atmosphere is comfortable, but upscale. You can have a delicious dinner and then sit at the huge bar for a drink. I would absolutely recommend anyone to give it a try. Pros: Great Selection, Nice atmosphere, Fast service more

I can almost taste it now... 12/3/2002

This is definately one of my favorite places for steak. I love not having the burden of driving into Boston and parking is never a problem. I went there fairly late in the evening on a whim with my boyfriend and half expected to be denied seating, but they seated us right away and we enjoyed a wonderful filet mignon dinner without feeling rushed. I highly recommend eating here. Pros: good parking Cons: crowded more

full service 11/5/2002

Please the stockyard food and prices cant be beat in boston, service is great. Ask all of the boston college fans who swamp it before night games.and still just 15 min wait. Pros: great food, prime rib primo, good prices more
