Venice hotspot 12/17/2009

I've heard that if you show your local ID you get priority here to get in the door. The Other Room has a New York feel to it and yet the ocean breezes that blow through on sunny afternoons are very uniquely Californian. Pros: Quality beer list Cons: Can be too crowded on weekends more

Poor customer service at the door 9/9/2008

I have been there quite a few times and always enjoyed the vibe. We went there on an early evening after walking along Abbot Kinney. We were stopped at the door and asked to produce our ID. I am old enough to be his father. (over 50). We took our business elsewhere. more

Never a bad time! 7/9/2008

I absolutely love this place! When i get sick of the frat boys in the southbay i drive a little farther north to Vencie to this bar. There are always cute, smart boys as opposed to the airheaded surfers of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa. I only wish they had cocktails (they only serve beer and wine), but their wine and beer selection is great. Go during the middle of the week when its just crowded enough and then head to La Cabana down the street on Rose for some late night yummy Mexican food (its the best! and they close at 3am).... more

TURN DOWN THE MUSIC, and then it'll be great 6/20/2008

I've been to the other room MANY times to either meet friends for drinks, or grab one on my own. It's a great singles place, but it COULD be a lot better, and I write this review in hopes that someone cares. The music is WAAAAY too LOUD. Everyone SHOUTS over each other - and the most COMMON phrase heard at the other room is, ""WHAT DID YOU SAY? I can't hear you over the music!"" The wine list and beer list is great and varied. The room itself has a great layout. But they let too many people in at one time, and mixed with the loud music it's just not the kind of place you want to be on a saturday night at 12. On an off night it can be wonderful. But it's becoming a harder and harder place to go with friends in hope of having a conversation. TURN DOWN THE MIUSIC Pros: great wine and beer, neat space Cons: LOUD MUSIC in a small space, overcrowded more

Best Gay Bar In Venice! 11/30/2007

The Other Room doesn't look like a gay bar on first look, but just like the other reviewer, who, like me, said he felt like I was right back in San Francisco, I thought that the Other Room is clearly the best of the gay bars on Abbott-Kinney. Venice is an awesome part of LA - accepting, open, warm, and accommodating. The gay friends I went with hooked up with the bouncers in the rest room (no kidding!!), and generally thought that the guys there (not just the bouncers) were totally hot. The short round-faced bouncer was definitely looking for the major hook up. The bigger one isn't as friendly at first, but apparently he warms up with a little prodding. The hand-full of cute women (I hate to call them ""f*g h*ags"") definitely also livened the place up. If you are visiting from out of town, gay or straight, and looking for a place to hang and feel like you can really be yourself, I definitely recommend that you check out The Other Room. The beer is good, the decor is hip, and the staff is extremely friendly ;-) Pros: Hot and willing door-men Cons: crowded, noisy more

Excellent Beer Selection 9/4/2007

Nicely designed and well apportioned beer & wine bar in a terrific location. Been going for 2 years now and I always have a great time. The staff are friendly and the beer selection is wide and varied. Sometimes it can get crowded with too many 'dudes', but there's always a nicely mixed crowd. Nothing beats a seat next to the open windows on the corner. This has become my place to go since Father's Office got too crowded. Pros: Beer selection, Service, Atmosphere Cons: No food more
