Food's better than some say 3/25/2010

It's in the rapidly improving and eclectic midtown district, with lots of other restaurants, coffee shops, bars and art galleries nearby. A drug rehab program facility a block away is a good neighbor and causes no problems. It's a real urban city, now, so get over it! Spaghetti with mizithra cheese and meat sauce ("Manager's Favorite") is good! The best place for kids and family in Sacramento. They'll love it when a train rumbles past -- about 60 feet from the windows. Pros: Kitchy, kid-friendly atmosphere, decent pasta at good price Cons: Food and wine list are bland more

THE ROSEVILLE LOCATION IS WAY BETTER! 2/3/2009

It was kind of disappointing. We made a special reservation for a wedding rehersal dinner, in August 2007. When we got there they said we had no reservation, we had to wait to be seated(witha big group) The food took forever to get on the table, it was kind of expensive and the food wasnt even that good. THE ROSEVILLE location has better service, better food. I WILL NOT RETURN Pros: NOTHING Cons: THE FOOD WAS BAD, SERVER WAS VERY NICE,they forgot our reservation! more

Nothing special, save your money and go somewhere else. 6/21/2008

The food is absolutely nothing special. I've had a lot of rude experiences here, from various members of the staff. One time, I asked for garlic salt because the dish I had was EXTREMELY bland, and the cook actually came out and was huffy and puffy, all upset that I had asked for something to be added to the dish. Save your money and go to Macaroni Grill or Olive Garden... or just make your own pasta. I'd be embarrassed to take my out of state friends here, and would not use it to define Sacramento's eateries. This is definitely a restaurant to be skipped. Pros: I suppose families with kids like it, because the train is nearby. Cons: Service, food, parking, ambience... it's just not there. more

The food isn't the best 11/23/2007

Yes, I do agree that the food isn't the best, but the atmosphere is quite interesting here. It is really neat how they kept the train station atmosphere, and even a bus/train in the restaurant. It is good to go with a bunch of people or with kids where the gourmet isn't the main focus. Pros: The decore and architecture is great Cons: The food is not too good. more

Unless you are dining with a 6 year old, don't bother 4/28/2007

Pretty bland food - probably good for little kids, though. Cool location and cool railroad car, but for grown ups, this a very unremarkable place. Service is good and staff are nice, but menu is very limited - no pesto anywhere! - and it kind of all tastes the same. Pros: family friendly Cons: bland food more

Don't go for the food 9/13/2006

As you know by now, the food isn't the greatest. I used to hate the OSF but I don't mind it now. The reason we go is because my daughter can make a mess(within reason) with her friends and they(staff) don't care. My dd and her friends love it b/c it's a cool looking building with a rail car in it. They do have some decent to not bad food. Try the greek chicken, mizithra, cobb salad, and the penne special with sausage, peppers, and onions. I agree with the poster that said it's healthier for kids than the average place. I don't feed my child chicken nuggest or hotdogs at home so why would I pay for it when we want a decent meal? To sum it up, you can take your kid here where they can get a fairly healthy, kid friendly meal; they will be fairly entertained; they make a mess YOU don't have to clean up (much)-all of this for under $10 a person. Not awful. I wouldn't go here on a regular basis but it's better than going to McDonalds for a treat. Pros: Cheap, plenty of parking, extremely kid-friendly Cons: food not that great more

Horrible Cafeteria Food 6/14/2006

This was a horrible experience. The food was absolutely horrible. There may be some nostalgia over the railroad station, but I will never return this restaurant. The food tasted like spaghettios - straight from the can! more

Boring 80's style resturant 1/2/2006

The noodles are cheap and don't taste fresh. The resturants are old, and have poor lightling. Would never go there again. Cons: poor quailty food, bad lighting more

Poor experience 6/2/2005

When I visited, the service was slow, the food was luke warm, bland, and in small portions. more

Predictable yet boring 3/7/2004

There are many kinds of factories. Some create unique treasures while others should be shut down because of the horrible impact that they wreak on the environment. Most, however, are average, pumping out the same product day after day. People buy what they create because it's always there, predicatable, and safe. The OSF falls into this last category. Canned sauces, dull salads, and limp pastas rule the menu while a steady bombardment of noise rules your head. You can do better. You should do better than this. Pros: Train Cons: , Loud kids, Long wait more

Boring Food 1/20/2004

I remember as a child going to the Spagetti factory and having a fun and satisfactory meal. Now a days my family doesn't even discuss the Spagetti Factory. The food was once good and homely has become commercial and bland. Their italian soda are the best thing on the menu. Kids may like it, but most adults will be disappointed if they wanted italian. more

The Food 1/15/2004

Good inexpensive place to take kids, but food is much too heavy on the sauces. They don't take reservations so you always have to wait for a table. It's noisy too. Have tried it twice and won't go back. Pros: Cheap Cons: No Reservations, Too much sauce on foo, Noisy more

Out of a Can 10/15/2003

I know lot's of people like this restaurant, but it is mediocre. All of the sauces taste like they came out of a can. I don't care if it is cheap this is not Italian food. Chef Boyardee is a good comparison. more

Good Family Destination 9/24/2003

For times when you don't want to cook spaghetti... This place is consitently good for taking the family to dinner. Children love it. Good portions. Unlimited tasty bread with two different butters. My 5-year old loves the mizithra, I like the spinach raviolis. Don't expect gourmet cuisine here, just simple good plates at good prices. more

Best Healthy Child Friendly Restaurant 7/9/2003

My husband and I always enjoyed the Spaghetti Factory, but never knew it was so child friendly until we brought our 14 month old daughter. She is at the point where she doesn't eat what most restaurants have on their "kids menu". Most "kids menus" offer fried foods or hotdogs, and soda. So we usually bring food for our daughter. But at the Spaghetti Factory, they offered plain noodles, applesauce, and apple juice. It was the first time my toddler sat still at the table for the whole meal. I never knew until today that the Spaghetti Factory had won awards for being child friendly, but I am now their #1 Fan! Thank you for providing "simple" healthy foods for children. Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Ambience Cons: Crowded Parking more

Not This One... 2/12/2003

Please do not go to this spaghetti factory. Go out of your way to go to Roseville. We had 3 kids and our order was lost, drinks we about a hour late, and they gave us a free garlic bread. I dont know why they lied and said the kitchen was backed up, when clearly they lost the order. The people next to us got up and left and we should of to... GO TO BUCCA DI PEPPO, MUCH BETTER AND FUNNER!!! more

catchy title 2/1/2003

It was great. The food was great. The value was great. I was surprised that they gave us a complete meal for the price of an entree. The service was excellent. Our garlic cheese bread was late, and we told our waiter, and he actually checked up on it and told us that it would be there momentarily. Even though they were busy, they still made time. Pros: waiting area, food, inexpensive Cons: crowded, parking more

Great for kids 1/19/2003

This is one of our regular Friday night spots. Its great for kids since there is a lot going on and no one notices if yours are a little loud. The service isnt great, but if your not in a hurry they have good food at great prices. more

A taste of history 11/22/2002

It's cheap, fun, close by - a great pick! And there's a train inside (how very cool!) more

Other popular favorites are the baked lasagna--layers of noodles, tomato sauce and four kinds of cheese--and the fettuccine Alfredo. Meals include a green salad, fresh-baked bread and ice cream.
