Editorial review from Citysearch 1/27/2014

I thought fondue was cheese. Who knew it was other stuff too? For about $45 a person you can have a meal that you mostly make yourself. It was good. My girlfriend and I were inspired to get our own fondue set and the Melting Pot cook book. Haven't been back again, but we've made fondue a bunch. more

The Worst Customer Service Ever!!! 3/26/2012

My Boyfriend and I was looking to spent some fun time and we stopped by this place. Actually it was a new experience for both of us. We found the place just when we walked near the place. Both of us were excited with the experience that was waiting for us. However, the first impression was not good at all. The three people standing right at the entrance were cold and with a not welcoming faces. Everyone was talking to the other and like they did not see us, in the case that we were the only ones entering their place. Servers were friendly and prices were high for the amount that they were representing. At the end we figured it out that the the person who asked our name to find a place was the manager for the night that surprisingly did not have the behavior of a manager who should provide a great customer service. more

Amazing Dining Experience, but Unforgettable Waiting Time 5/29/2011

This restaurant is the best place to go for fondue in LA. Not many places offer the same food they offer, especially in their atmosphere. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building, looking over the shops of Old Town, Pasadena, and the setting inside is rather upscale. However, when my boyfriend and I showed up at the restaurant without a reservation on a Wednesday evening around 6pm, the waiter told us the wait would be around 2.5 - 3 hours, and his expression suggested this was the typical waiting time. When we came back 1 hour later, we were lucky to get a seat, but even the 1 hour wait was so long! Overall, the food is great - as long as you make a reservation, this place is well worth going to!! more

Very nice atmosphere. The food was very expensive. They don't even give you whole stawberries. They cut them in half. :( more

Excellent dating spot and for special occasions 9/28/2009

This restaurants is a great place for dates and special occasions for up to 6 guests at least. The place is chic and classy looking. The service is excellent. The servers are very helpful, friendly and attentive. Worth tipping and worth going back for :))) At first glance it may seem like the food is not going to be filling. However there is a something in the menu that is an excellent deal. I forgot the name of it, however the servers are usually good in recommending this option. It comes with 3 course meal: Appetizer with cheese dipping, main entree with different type of cooking style - my personal favorite is Coq au Vin and the entree includes a variety of selection (meat, seafood etc). And of course it comes with dessert. The mixture of white and dark chocolate is especially delicious. It comes with fruits and cakes which you can dip into a rich, silky, smooth and salivating chocolate fondue. They also have a full bar. The price per person ranges from $45 above. The best deal would be the 3 course meal. Street parking is available, but limited. There is a parking structure located on De Lacey, almost by Green St - 90 minutes free. Pros: Excellent customer service, chic spot, good food Cons: Pricey more

ugh, get me out of here 9/30/2008

I and two other guests felt like trying something 'new' and decided to give the melting p. a chance. The place smelled horrible, you could even smell it from the escalators leading up to the restaurant. The waiter talked our heads off as if he was giving a lecture in a lecture hall to 500 students (I suspect he was a struggling actor trying to make ends meet during the day as a waiter). He tried to make everything seem like it was so exciting with a tv show host voice that felt so incredibly fake and rehearsed while the manager stood next to him and loomed over us the whole time. The whole meal plan and packages were wayyyyy too complicated and seemed too expensive for what they were offering( what cheese to get ($7), what sauces ($7), what flavor ($7), how it's to be cooked ($7), what salads ($7), blah blah blah omg get me out of here). We decided to make a break for it and headed out after our waiter let us BREATHE. We felt like having a nice, simple and quiet dinner and instead felt like we were choosing our insurance plan or deciding on what coverage to get lol. On our way out we noticed the meals others were having, and it looked like the portions were incredibly small. On a really big oval plate stood 5 clumps of tiny raw and pale foods (red meat, a crouton, a tiny baby potato, etc). Let's just say we were really happy we ditched the place. Pros: nothing? Cons: service, smell, overly complicated menu, dark, small space, over priced, small portions, annoying staff and fake staff more

THE BEST FONDUE RESTAURANT IN LA! 8/30/2008

If you are looking for a new, different way of enjoying food, the MeltingPot is the place to go. \r \r I went to the one in Old Town Pasadena for my friend's birthday and just had the most amazing dining experience. First off, we were greeted by the hostesses immediately upon arriving, which was welcoming. I've been to other restaurants where they wouldn't even acknowledge your presence until you say something to them first, so it was nice to feel welcomed. We were a little early for our reservation, so we decided to get a few drinks at their bar before getting seated. I recommend the Pineapple Martini or the Love Martini from there! The bartenders were very prompt in getting our orders and were very nice people. We got seated at a nice table by the window where we can overlook Colorado Blvd. Our server explained the whole menu to us, since it was our first time and we had no clue how to order. He was very patient with our high maintenance group, so I really appreciate that. We ordered the Big Night Out, which comes with cheese fondue, salad, meats/seafoods/veggies, and chocolate fondue.\r \r We finished EVERYTHING, and were completely stuffed after the whole meal, but it was all well worth it. The ambiance was nice, the food was great, and the service was top-notch. I recommend everyone to try MeltingPot at least once in their lifetimes. more

Just Say NO!!!!!! 3/11/2008

I wish I would have read the reviews BEFORE I went to this horrific place. The concept, albeit it fun and engaging, the reality here is terrible. The food, staff and..........well food is below average. At least have the prices reflect the quality of food you are going to serve. I should have known its was going to be bland after we tasted the Fiesta Cheese Fondue. Really? It was like Chez Whiz with jalepenos. The Big Night Out they upsell you is not at all worth the price. This place is a big dissapointment. Pros: There's other restuarants nearby Cons: I can't write this meal off. more

Terrible Boiled Food 3/6/2008

The food was horrible, the boiled meat lost all its taste. The only thing that was good was the Chocolate fondu. Plus the waiters there always push you to get the ""big night out"" dinner, which cost 100 dollars. Totally not worth the price. Pros: good dessert Cons: exspensive, bad entrees more

What a fun experience 1/25/2008

I had been wanting to go to The MP in Pasadena for a while and recently had the opportunity to go with my boyfriend and another couple. This is a great restaurant for a group setting or I can see where it would be great also for a couple ....romantic. Aside from having a little difficulty getting recognized by the bar tender while waiting for our table, once she acknowledged us....she was very friendly...it was a saturday, so a little busy I guess, this was such a fun experience, we each ordered the Big Night Out....which is plenty of food for even the biggest of appetites. They have an amazing selection of wine, my friend even got to go into the wine room which he was just thrilled out. Everyone was very friendly, our waiter Ryan was full of personality and very accommodating to our high maintenance group. ;) more

Horrible Food and Ambiance 11/3/2007

I made reservations to this place for a ""date."" Upon arriving the wait in the lobby was horrible, knowing I had made reservations. My boyfriend and I were seated by this VIP room which happened to be a bit distracting. The dim light setting made the ambiance very boring. The food was EXTREMELY overrated for the high prices!!!!!! It was definitely a horrible experience considering all the hype about the restaurant. My boyfriend and I went to the one in Pasadena. We settled on having the Artichoke Cheese fondue and two fountain drinks. Upon leaving we walked around to a local taqueria( taco place) and had such a memorable, delicious experience than what we had at the restaurant. The high prices aren't worth the drinks or quality of food. Pros: being with my boyfriend. Cons: the service, ambience, quality of food.. the list goes on. more
