The Lake Shore Apartments

Not even two months after I moved in my apartment kitchen was flooded due to the neighbor’s bathroom shower drain. The first time I called maintenance, they said they fixed it. The second time my kitchen flooded, maintenance made a joke saying “as long as your neighbor does shower, you should be fine”. Not funny. The cabinet, ceiling and walls become severely water damaged. Maintenance failed to show up 2 times to take care of the mold that occurred due to the flooding. \r Snow was literally coming inside from the fireplace. The windows and doors are extremely drafty. The walls are paper thin. The leasing crew failed to mention children are not permitted into the clubhouse to partake in any of the amenities offered. And yes, they are very voliation happy: I was warned for having my child's bike on the backporch. It's ""not patio funiture, plants, or a grill"" therefore its not allowed. more

During our time at Lakeshore Apartments, we dealt with many serious incidents that were either caused by or ignored by management staff. A small selection:\r \r It seemed like the police were there very frequently. It made us feel very unsafe, who did we live next to that was being visited by police so frequently? In our last weekend there, we were approached by a police officer who told us they were investigating one of our neighbors that we shared a building with, and asked us questions about this person. Scary!\r \r Many issues with marijuana smoke entering our apartment. It was such an issue that warnings were posted a few times by management, but this was an intermittent issue our entire time as tenants.\r \r We had tremendous difficulty with our upstairs neighbors. Our apartment was flooded by clogged toilets in the upstairs unit 5 times over the course of a year. We had two different neighbors over the course of a year and they both had noisy, disruptive late night parties, including 2 different 21st birthday parties.\r \r We had to leave our apartments overnight two separate times during our stay. Once the management decided to re-glaze a bathtub in our building in the middle of winter without giving us any notice. When we called to ask about the smell, they told us that is what they were doing and that we should open some windows for air. It was 30 degrees outside. We did so anyway but still found the chemical smell to be too noxious to endure and we had to leave. I complained about this and we eventually received a rent credit.\r \r The other time we had to leave was due to a car alarm going off in the early AM hours, waking us up. It did not stop after a lengthy amount of time, so I visited the front gate and told them of the problem. They told me that they couldn't do anything and that I would have to call the towing company. Still standing with the guard, I did so and the towing company told me that Lakeshore would have to request the tow. (Makes sense, right?) Lakeshore refused to do anything and eventually we had to leave our own home to get some sleep.\r \r I have raised all of these issues, and many others with the property manager at Lakeshore. She was frequently unresponsive and only very rarely did anything to address our complaints, usually after several days of vocally complaining about an ongoing issue.\r \r There are many other things I could say about our time at Lakeshore aparments, suffice it to say our experience was negative enough that I am going out of my way to write this review in the hopes that others may be spared what we had to go through. In the strongest terms possible I would advise looking elsewhere for a home. more

I would not recommend Lake Shore Apartments to ANYONE. I lived there for 2 horrible years. The heat never reached the bedrooms and cold air poured through the windows. The utility bills were outrageous! They upped our rent by $100 every year. They are violation happy and will give a violation for anything. They will send you to court if you are 20 days late on rent and charge $144!! We paid over $1,200 in monthly pet fees/ pet deposit over the 2 years and still charged us $600 for new carpeting. They were not willing to work with us at all. I would rather live on the street than live there again. more

There is a family and an adult pool (which is great for some quiet relaxation). Maintenace is really quick to take care of you and the office staff is really friendly. I also get $500 for each of my friends and co-workers that move in too! Pros: We have Yoga and Disc Golf!!! more

This place may look nice and have inviting faces when you come looking for an apartment but the truth is they DO NOT care about their rentees. They fill up every apartment leaving no space to park. The parking is a first come first serve bases which means you have to park in B.F.E. and walk a mile to your damn apartment. Don't even think about parking under the covered parking spaces that arent even used b/c they love calling the towing company and letting you pay $250-300 for an impound fee! If you ask me thats bad customer service.. Kitchen hasent been remodeled and i can't even tell you how long either. I can't wait to get out of this place. Pros: Grounds look nice Cons: poor customer service, horrible parking, apts. not kept up 2 date more

I live here (yeah, still) for 4 years now and I regret so much the old management (Mc Kinley`s). I didn`t move out yet because the view (of the Lake Ford) is like heaven! Almost every evening I take pictures with the sun comming down... Anyway, the place is beautiful but maintained poorly (I mean "THEY DON`T CARE ABOUT THE PLACE"!!!). Littering is now a law here and the dog p..p is EVERYWHERE (if you don`t belive me, try to walk around)! My appartment has been flooded twice already and they didn`t, at least, say "we are sorry that your things got wet". Even more, the people from the management didn`t even knew about the flooding!!!! (3 days later my neighbour`s app. got flooded too and then they found out about my app.). The water has been stopped so many times that I tend to belive that this complex has been moved (in secrecy) in a comunist country :). Oh, and something else, they increase security at the Gate House, to stop "the crime and theft" ,but what they don`t want to acknowledge is that the "crime and theft" is already inside, because they rented the appartments to "it". What I generally see is that they don`t care to keep the people living here (they don`t know how to make them feel like home, there`s no comunication between management and tenants). Any complains you have, in writing or verbal, equals no answer. more

Live here for the second year and nothing gets done, the people who run this place don't have a clue about what happens around here. Half the apartments are empty, and some haven't been upgraded because they don't have the money to fixed them. They charge too much for rent and you get nothing in return for the price. They claim they have two pools and place for parties, but its a lie, they have nothing for a family here. This place is so bad that if you want anything done they tell you it won't work. They are more interested in trying to get people with good credit and they promise all the things. then when you moved in, nothing is open and the people don't cared about your personal needs in this complex. The management that work here are so stupid that don't care about your needs and are only here to goof off during the day, need to lower prices and try to fix things here. Pros: Clean outside grounds, clean streets Cons: no pool, no marina, no place to have a gathering more

All this winter I did not have heat that went above 61 degrees. Each time I called to get somone in to fix it I was told there was nothing broken with my heat and they had no idea why I kept saying it didn't work. So I just stopped complaining. This spring I walked into my apartmen one night to find hundreds of ants covering my apartment. Where were they coming from? The hall way, they were coming under the large crack under my door that I could fit my whole hand under. When I called to get that fixed it took over 4 weeks to get somthing done. I have had many other problems since Lake Shore bought Lake in the Woods. I do not think they are running this complex very well. All I can say is that I'm glad I'm moving out in a few weeks and would never recommend this apartment to anyone. more

Promised by to open by the beginning of December, 2005: 2 exercise facilities, 1 dog park, 1 movie theatre, 1 internet cafe, a conference room, a ballroom. It is June 2006 and only the dog park is open. As the swimming pools are still not open, we now have less services than when I moved in 2 years ago. My building is 3/4 empty (for various reasons, not excluding the unfulfilled promises and the lack of service). Rents are being raised, but few services are being provided. The management should consider lowering rents for loyal, dependable renters in order to lure them into re-signing leases. Pros: Dog friendly, Nice location, gooapartment size Cons: Poor service, Too expensive, no renovation more
