The Getty Center is a surefire excursion if your entertaining guests. Even if your visitors aren't into art (the permanent collection isn't exceptional anyway), the architecture and views of the L.A. basin and coastline are impressive. Plan to have lunch at the restaurant for an all-out experience, though riding the tram up, strolling through the garden and grabbing a snack is usually enough to impress most folks. There are often some interesting visiting exhibits, and I've actually enjoyed myself each time I've been as well. However, don't bother with the docent-led architecture tour. It's dry and not particularly informative; you'll be better entertained by exploring on your own.
Pros: Incredible views, Beautiful garden
Cons: So-so collection
