Best

i like to visit there

Worst

The only reason to go to the Getty is for the architecture and the gardens. The permanent collection is horrible. 99% of the artwork there is un-influential and boring. Getty w...

Getty Center 8/9/2002

If you like site seeing or you want to spend half day with your bf/gf, you should go there. It is a very relaxing outdoor and indoor place to visit. more

Simply the best 8/7/2002

The Getty is a complete experience for a cheap day out. There is something for everyone. The ride up, the architecture, the gardens, the water features with the different sounds. And all that without even seeing some of the world's finest art. Pros: LA views, Universal appeal more

Great Experience All Around! 7/30/2002

Great place to spend an afternoon! Fabulous art. Beautiful gardens and great views of Los Angeles (especially on a clear day!). Great place for a date or a family outing. Best of all its free!!! Go, look and enjoy the sights! Pros: Beautiful in and out, Great views, FREE Cons: Expensive Food, yet good, Parking more

Monets, Roman Statues and LA Views 7/30/2002

A must for every local and vistor to LA. Excellent art. Beautiful gardens. Supurb LA views on the occational clear, smogless day. Grand architectual design. Pros: Roman Antiquites, Impressionists, Gardens Cons: photography, crowds more

Heaven On Earth 7/20/2002

It is a piece of heaven on earth. During the day, you get a spectacular view of all of LA. At night, the city lights make for a wonderful picture. And dont' even get me started talking abou the sunsets. The garden out in the beck is just fantastic. Oh, by the way, the art collection is to die for! more

violins in the medievil world 7/1/2002

My son was sorely disappointed when there was no display on ""violence in the medievil world"". The girl at the information booth was sure I was interested in ""Violins in the Medievil World"", which she couldn't find either...oh well. A fun day was had by all anyway, even without a display of knights in shining armor, swords, and catapults.... Pros: gardens & water displ, Free!, lobby seating w/books Cons: Expensive treats!, Crowded bathrooms, Difficult Navigation more

Don't miss it! 6/27/2002

The Getty Center sits high enough that on a clear day you can see all the way to the beach. It is a lot of art, but it is definitely worth it. The architecture alone is something to take the time to admire. Great romantic stroll when it is open at night too! more

View, but at what cost? 6/13/2002

True, everyone in LA must go to the Getty to take in the wonderful 360 degree panorama of LA. It is breathtaking, but I'm sorry that they lopped off the top of a mountain to accomplish this. That was once a great ridgeline along the 405. Now it's just another development in So. Cal. -- and the museum is not that great, although the architecture is good. Pros: Great view, Architecture Cons: Gaudy, Permanent collections more

A Must See 6/13/2002

This museum truly has it all. A grand view of Los Angeles and the coast line. The Gardens a beautiful, the art collection rivals most world renound museums. The restaurant leaves something to be desired. Overall The Getty Center is truly one of LA's best places to visit. more

Best View in LA 6/12/2002

Situated high above LA creates a soothing atmosphere with a great view of LA. The feeling of escape and relaxation in the middle of the city is a great retreat. The architectual tour is a must, the travertine from which The Getty is built is from the same quarry as the Roman Coliseum and Trevi Fountain. Oh yeah, if you are on a tight-budget it's free! more

Cool Place to Hang Out 6/12/2002

It's worth the drive to just see Van Gogh Iris's. It's a great place to grab a bench a good book and spent your afternoon in the garden. The parking situation is better, motorcycles do not need reservations, if you have one I recomend riding it. more

Even if u don't like arts 6/11/2002

A must go even if u don't like Arts. Chances are, you would come out developing a fascination for Arts. You might want to visit along with someone who understands Art. That would be useful more

A young museum 6/10/2002

This museum suffers from being so new. They are trying to establish their reputation and their collection. A lot of their art is very similar. I was disappointed in the very small room of impressionist painters. The gardens and the views are spectacular. Pros: Gardens, Views Cons: Collections more

Review of the Getty Center 6/7/2002

This is someplace that everyone should go at least once. Sure, the art gallery are the best in the world but it has a great vibe! It is a fabulous way to get away from from the day to day hype in LA!! Pros: FREE, BEAUTIFUL, RELAXING more

At Least it is FREE! 6/2/2002

The Getty Center is a perfect for a low key day of rest and relaxation. The collection isn't the best, but the gardens and view are excellent. Pros: Free more

So not worth it, way overhyped. The only nice thing about it is the view and living in L.A. that does not happen that often. Not even worth paying $5.00 for parking. more

Collection sucks - view is ok 5/22/2002

the old Getty Center location in Pacific Palisades was a much better/intimate location. I guess they needed a larger location for Research Facility (which takes a lot of space there.) The actual Museum is small Collection...well, Getty collection would be good for a private collection (which it used to be) but is really poor for museum. Yes, there is Irises by Van Gogh, couple paintings by Titian and Rembrandt, but don't expect Louvre, L'Ermitage, National Gallery, or Prado museum. if you are looking for a collection of art, LACMA has much more extensive collection, which still does not rise to a level of nationally-recognized museum. View is nice, however there are much better views in LA. Architecture not impressive. Gardens really smalle, Huntingon Gardens are 1000 times better. You won't miss much by not going to Getty. On the other hand - it is practically free. Pros: almost free, convenient location, nice view Cons: new location sucks, collection sucks more
