love this place 11/9/2010

I went to Portsmouth and I knew my night would end at the Friendly Toast. I didn't know what I would find before that (Daniel St Tavern, see other review), but FT was on the agenda before I left home. Yes, it's pretty bohemian, but you can see that throught the window from the street, and if you don't like that sort of thing I'm sure you can find a cloth-napkin kind of joint.\r \r They have awesome burgers, smoothies, a big honkin' burrito, and a whole lot of breakfast to experience. The prices aren't great, but not outrageous. Nine ounce burger with chips or pretzels was about $10.\r \r Definitely some of what you're paying for at FT is atmosphere, and it is worth seeing. Don't get the impression the there's just a bunch of crazy crap on the walls like TGIF, but there is a whole lot going on, decor-wise. 50s-era dinette sets and advertising signs all over; I think it looks really cool, but see for yourself.\r \r My service was pretty quick and the kids working there may look a little different from the kids you'll see at the Gap, I bet the FT crew are friendlier and more courteous. more

So-So 4/19/2010

The wait staff told us to grab menus and pick a seat. No problem if it is a laid back place with laid back food/prices. It is not. We spent 40dollars for two adults meals, one kid meal, three drinks. They actually tried to charge us 55, but I had to argue the bill. Coffee cup was wobbly, had to ask for a new one because it spilled, seemed to annoy the waiter. The bread was great. The eggs were so-so. Home fries were over and under cooked, some raw and some blackened. We will not be back, find a dinner and you can get the same thing. They just have a large menu. Pros: Cool decor Cons: The service and food more

smelled like urine 9/9/2009

go to this place if you want to die of food sickness and leave a big garlicky corpse!you have to have at least ten tattoos to get any service and the place quite literally smells like urine.it amazes me that all you have to do is put alot of junk in a restaurant to get customers...does anyone care about the food anymore? Pros: lots of alternatives Cons: the wait staff more

this was a small town lots of coffee shops. my mother , friend and i came to this town as a pitt stop. they said how about a coffee shop with pasteries and what nots. unfortuneately i cant eat just a muffin and coffee and move on with my day so i opted for some real breakfast! thankfully the coffee shop pointed us to the right direction and it was a fabulous place! the food was great and affordable!! i tried their sweet potato fries that had hot sauce and cinnamon cooked right on them with a side of sour cream it sound gross but wayyy good!! if i ever head back out there i would definitely go again! btw GREAT service!! Pros: excellent all around Cons: too bad its far from l.a.!!! more

funky find, fabulous food! 10/12/2003

The Friendly Toast is a great place to eat, no matter what time it is. From its basic ""Basic Breakfast"" to more unique dishes, the food at this place never disappoints. Quirky servers and a one-of-a-kind decor add the atmosphere to make a Friendly Toast meal a dining experience to remember. I totally reccommend this spot to anyone looking for a great meal in a funky setting. Pros: yummy food, cool atmosphere, affordable more
