Still not sure 7/14/2010

My daughter has been going to TDR for 3 years. She started in creative movement then took tap and is now in tumbling. Everyone has treated us well. My daughter enjoys the classes and learns from them. I think the cost is less than other studios around and they have a very nice studio and gym. I was not happy with the recital. I did not think it was organized well and thought because they have been doing this for so long that it would be organized. I still do not know how my daughter becomes a part of a performing group or competive gymnastics group or the cost involved in those and I would really like to know, but I do not feel comfortable enough to ask. I am not sure at this point if we will stay at TDR or find some place else. I do believe if you want to be a competative dancer TDR is where to be, but I am not sure how good the gymnastics program is. We are looking more into gymnastics rather than dance. I want my daughter to learn the proper skills, but I also want her to have a goo more

Dance Mom 6/1/2010

My daughters have been at the dance refinery for over 13 years and I find the organization very well run. What a great way to keep your children fit and their mind active. We have found good friends there. Miss Lynn is great role model for any young lady. I would highly reccomend the studio for the serious student to someone interested in just one class a week.. more

High class dance studio! 6/1/2010

Dancing at The Dance Refinery for over 11 years, we are very pleased. Lynn and her staff are very organized, friendly, and professional. Being flexible and able to adapt to situations that arise while keeping dancers and their parents informed are their among their strong qualities. We've danced there through personal illnesses, tornado warnings, floods, and competition's that canceled their Indianapolis location a week out, through all of this TDR was able to work with us and keep us informed through emails and memos....a great way to communicate! Miss Lynn has a very professional conservative appearance and is a great influence on the young girls in our world today. TDR is a beautiful facility that is very accommodating with a study hall and snack bar that offers typical "concession stand" food as well as healthy choices. TDR employs a variety of dance teachers all with unique areas of expertise, together they work to produce well rounded dancers. While choreography for danc more

World Class Dance Studio 5/31/2010

Where to start? We have three girls who go to The Dance Refinery, our oldest coming up on 10 years. The glue that holds it together is Lynn, the owner. She and her staff work tirelessly to provide the best quality instruction possible, which shows in the recitals and competitions. We can tell when a number was done by The Dance Refinery because the costumes, choreography, and polish of the dancers is a cut above the rest of the studios we've seen. Children there develop teamwork, poise, and a good attitude, and Lynn and her staff foster this environment. Sometimes, though, there are changes in competition schedules and locations which are beyond their control, and the staff communicates these very clearly, always calling to make sure everyone is informed. We've never had a miss in the 10 years we've been there. Quite an incredible feat. As a response to Sandy P., who got personal in her review and criticized Lynn's dress, we were shocked when we saw her review. It was a stran more

love it love it not? 5/26/2010

Everyone will have a different experience but i felt after being there with my daughter for two years that I was unsatisfied with the entire dance company. They never seemed to have the same teacher and here we are about to have her recitle and non of the kids really know the dance. They don't even start working on the dance routine until January and the recitle is the first in June. They charge a late fee, God forbid that you forgot or are a day late, you will get a notice form the owner request 10% more ontop of the bill you owe. They overschedule the classes so there is NO room to park and of course the close parking spots are reserved for the teachers and the owner. The cafeteria is a good thing although they don't sell much of anything healthy even though they are requiring these children to be athletes, they sell junk food. Needless to say we are looking for another dance company next year. Good luck you may love it there we did not. more

Worth it? 5/9/2008

Not even worth the time to write a review but it requires at least 100 characters so............... Pros: it has a cafeteria! Cons: it has a cafeteria! (its a dance studio right?) more

TDR for LIFE 1/2/2008

The Dance Refinery is the best studio I have ever attended. I started my dance life at another studio and for two years, I felt I learned nothing. I have been at TDR for 9 years now... I love it!! I have experienced many different, amazing things since I've been here, more than just in dance. I have gone to Los Angeles, Myrtle Beach, Branson, Louisville (and many more) and this summer we've been invited to EUROPE!! These type of events are once in a lifetime opportunities that I never would have had the chance to earn in a million years at another studio! Miss Lynn looks amazing and she is amazing. We are not "afraid" of her, we respect her. She started this studio from the back of a van over 30 years ago. This wonderful lady deserves respect for all that she has made it to be! I love The Dance Refinery, they are my family. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who has ever had the dream to dance, to come! You won't regret it!! more

Instructors 7/29/2007

A lot of studios hire dance teachers who haven't performed professionally but have studied and trained as dancers. Some have college dance degrees and taught in high school and have continue after graduation.Studios will use professional choreographers they bring in for special numbers but that person is not usually a regular staff member. Choreographers are a great way to get different styles and routines. And great exposure to the performing world. more

To Dance or not to Dance 6/17/2007

Dance is not for everyone. Those who truly have a passion for the Art and who truly want to learn to master the Art, know where to invest their time and money. Doctors and Dentists, Lawyers and child care are all things we spend 'Too much money on' but we do it because we want the best service with people who know their business. Miss Lynn knows her business. I knew of her and her students when I was a student at another dance studio 30 years ago and competed against her dancers. She choreographed my High School Musicals, I enrolled my children at the Dance Refinery, I worked for her. She knows what she is doing, her instructors know what they are doing and she has an awesome studio in my opinion. \r I moved away from the Greenwood area and no longer work at the Dance Refinery but currently work for another studio...one that knows the business just like Miss Lynn does. Let me add that I did not just pick a dance studio out of the phonebook to find the studio I am at now, either. If you more

Where do I start? 5/17/2007

From the time my daughter first started at The Dance Refinery I did not have a good feeling. It seemed very cold. I guess it felt more like a refinery than a dance studio. My husband and I could not take the owner seriously with her diamonds and patton leather high heels. And the students and other parents seemed to almost be afraid of her. There's too much attention on appearance and not enough attention paid to the classroom. We paid DEARLY for dance instruction. And we feel that instead of instruction we got memos. Lots and lots of memos. A memo that contridicted the last memo. The kids in my daughters level were constantly being told that they were selfish and that they made selfish choices. However, they were the ones there while other kids involved in other activites were allowed to miss rehearsal after rehearsal. It was just crazy. And to top it off the costs are out if this world. We are definitely looking at other studios. But if you decide to go to thsi studio, just remember, more

I love TDR 5/5/2007

I just moved to TDR this year... And it has been great It's not like one of the studios where you have to earn your keep in order to be treated nice. The first day I was there, i was automatically treated like part of the family... Miss Lynne is amazing and so are the rest of the teachers there. I'm currently apart of a competitive dance group, and it has been so much fun... As for expenses.... It's really nothing.... If you are serious about your dance or gymnastics or cheer.. then it shouldn't matter... Costumes are sometime over priced but the classes aren't..... I would recommend it to you if your looking for good technique and a good time. more

All Around Great School 9/26/2005

My kids have been at the Dance Refinery for 2 years. My oldest is preparing to be in competion gymnastics and my youngest has made so many friends. The teachers are fantasitics and they pay so much attention to all the kids. The owner is great she works with parents who need to pay tution in payments rather than one big payment. If you have kids is competion level dance or gymnastics they have a funderaising family program for you to earn money towards tution and costumes. About the cost is about average price until you get into more activities and you get what you pay for. Costumes are average price as well. I can say this because I has spent time in other dance studios 2 years in other dance studios. more

EXPENSIVE 6/10/2005

The Dance Refinery is one expensive place! They make you pay way to much for dance classes! They also overcharge you for costumes. I would not recommend this dance school. It is far too expensive! more
