Scott and his team did an excellent job! We could not be happier with the end result. He had some great design ideas and they executed to perfection. They installed zoysia grass in the backyard and constructed beautiful cedar arbor and trellis. In addition, my wife finally got her wish of getting the long awaited water feature to compliment the new landscaping and flower beds. His team was polite, professional and on-time. \r \r You can tell Scott is passionate about what he does and pays attention to the details. He did a great job of listening to the ideas I had for our yard and making some suggestions to complete our vision of what we wanted. \r \r He even went above and beyond the call of duty. During our final walk-thru, he stuck around for an extra 30 minutes to help me hang some new cafe lights on our back patio. Two weeks later when while we were gone on vacation, he came by the house to monitor and water the new plants during the June heat wave we experienced. There were actually a couple of struggling vines and he replaced them free of charge 4 weeks after the installation. He even helped tweak our sprinkler system to ensure the plants were being watered at no additional cost.\r \r I have to say, we did go over our budget, however, it was money well spent to have a few of the upgrades that I did not initially envision until Scott suggested (Arbor, Trellis, Water feature and professional landscaping lighting). All the extras helped enhance our new backyard experience. Our backyard is now an area we are truly proud of. more

My husband and I live in the Heights, and we contacted the Backyard Gardener to do landscaping at our home on Heights Blvd. in advance of placing it on the market. Scott Coleman came out and met us, and listened to our ""vision"". I have to say that he takes what you think you want, and tweaks it into something 1000 times better.\r \r Once we sold our house on Heights Blvd., we bought another house on Cortlandt Street that needed extensive landscaping. We once again contacted Scott, who came to the house and met with us for at least two hours, listening to all of our visions of what we would like our house to look like. All I can say is that Scott and his crew made our home into a masterpiece. People stop in their cars on a regular basis if we are outside and tell us how beautiful our garden is, as do people who are walking through the neighborhood. People also stop and take photos, and we have also been photographed and mentioned in Heights-based publications.\r \r During this process, we have also become personal friends with Scott, and we trust him implicitly to always do what he thinks is best for our yard, without question. Scott knows that I am from New Orleans, so he created a little drift rose and dianthus garden on the side of the garage where we put an angel statute because he knew that it would remind me of a courtyard garden in the Garden District, and would remind me of home, as do the gorgeous Camellias and Gardenias he found and planted for us.\r \r I have highly recommended Scott and his landscaping company to numerous people, and without fail, every single person who has seen our yard wants to know who did it. \r \r We are getting ready to have Scott do a more extensive landscaping job in our backyard (taking out pre-existing bamboo), and we can't wait to see what he has planned for us.\r \r I think the best part is that Scott truly loves what he does, and that is reflected in the end product. more

The Backyard Gardener, Scott Coleman, did an excellent complete landscaping job on our backyard. He was very attentive to our ideas and carefully thought out both the plans and the selection of plants. He would bring samples of plants for us to consider. Much of our backyard is shaded so plant selection was critical. Stone walkways, turf replacement and drainage were also part of the job. He went out of his way to repair small items that were not part of the original plan. All the plants and turf are thriving and we are looking forward to the spring blooming season. more

Of the 3 landscaping services I contacted, Scott, the new owner of The BackYard Gardener was the only one who listented to what I wanted as opposed to just doing the same old thing.I now have a beautiful front yard with flagstone border and flagstone path leading to my front door.The design is what I wanted while working with a 1950's brick ranch.Great guy to work with, great crew, fun and amazing experience. They have the largest selection of water plants available in the Heights. Service is very friendly and offers some interesting garden art. Don't miss the waterfall and pond tucked into the back of the nursery, it will make you wish it was in your garden! more

We hired The Backyard Gardener to clean up our yard after the heavy winter, to remove weeds, and to plant a little color in our front yard beds. Also trim smal shrubs in the backyard.\r Mr. Coleman listened to everything we asked, then provided a very sketchy estimate, which should have been a warning sign.\r They never planted the color we wanted for the yard - it was not available.\r They did not finish the trimming of the crape myrtles in the back, did no weeding what soever.\r When we pointed this out to Mr. Coleman, he promised to be back and finish the job. To this day he as not shown up to finish.\r Our attempt to get a refund has been unsuccessful.\r This company should not be allowed to stay in business.. Cons: will not be honest with potenial customers, does not finish more
