Best

This is the place with a good taste of food. The ambiance is cool, the service is fast and the servers were friendly and overall all it was great.

Worst

All my friend and I wanted (we are both Chicago natives) was to do two things: enjoy the weather at a cefe we've seen but never been to, and have something to drink (after all it ...

I love this place! 3/30/2011

I had the best cheeseburger and the soup was great. The service was fast and the waitress was great. She let us know about the free day at the Art Institute. I love this place! more

Good food, good coffee, good service 3/28/2011

Came here for breakfast with my wife and son. Good food, good coffee, good service. No complaints at all. Granted, it is hard to really screw up breakfast, but our experience was great. more

I really like this place 3/22/2011

I really like this place. The staff is friendly, the food is good, great coffee and the people watching can't be beat. It has a cozy diner feeling despite being a fairly large cafe. more

PERFECT 3/17/2011

This restaurant was PERFECT and we can't say enough about it. more

It was good and reasonably priced 3/15/2011

I was in town for a Conference at the Hilton, just down the street, and a friend and I walked here for dinner. The menu is an interesting mix of ethnic and American foods. I had the Greek grilled cheese sandwich, which was feta cheese, tomatoes and red onions on pita bread. It was good and reasonably priced more

Friendly wait staff. 3/9/2011

Had a great meal - the chicken with spinach and feta - generous portion and well prepared. Friendly wait staff. more

impressive 3/4/2011

What I love about Chicago....potatoes! I had the chicken vesuvio here and it came with yummy lemony/olive oil/salt fresh fried potatos. The food here was excellent. They're extensive connoisseur coffee menu was impressive. One day, when I move to chicago, I am going to go down the coffee menu and try each one (i wonder how jacked or drunk that would make me?) One of the coolest things about this place besides the the brooklyn dineresque feel is the sign outside. Like many chicago buildings it has an old original, and still very functional sign (unlike signs of the same era in Richmond). more

amazing great times 2/28/2011

Again, amazing great times at this Cafe back in the 90's ate here a LOT after school at the Art Institute. Updating review soon.... more

I thoroughly love 2/25/2011

I thoroughly love that they have a full coffee menu. There were drinks I had never heard of before, all incorporating either coffee or espresso. The menu was a bit small (I like lots of choices), but I had a terrific grilled cheese, which I usually never order. I was hungover. It was so so good. It came with these good potato slices cooked similar to french fries, but drizzled with olive oil and a little parmesan cheese. The spinach pie looked delicious and so did the tuna sandwich. It was on a croissant. Ok, yum. Its a diner with European (mostly Greek) flare. I highly recommend if you are down in that area, perhaps museum visiting. more

Yummy 2/23/2011

We ate there a few times because it was super convenient, so I was able to sample a few different things. The French toast was by far my favorite. The best part of breakfast was my latte! Yummy more

graced the premises. 2/18/2011

The twentysomething waitress serving the outdoor cafe at the Artists' Restaurant (or Artists' Cafe, as it is popularly known) wears an outfit suitable for a workout - shorts and a loose black t-shirt. And work out she does, moving fast between bar, kitchen counter and her outdoor domain, kicking the door open, schlepping plates and glasses, bending down to reach for some papers a guest dropped on the floor. About to pick up a platter laden with hamburger and french fries, she stops and addresses the guy in the kitchen: ""That's cold. I won't serve this."" A new platter is made while she rushes back out. It's a warm afternoon; almost all the outdoor tables are occupied. Owner Irene reigns behind the cash register, conversing with the customers (""Have you had a nice lunch?""), and allowing some of the waitresses, at one point, to gather around a guest who is a singer. The cafe sees its share of celebrities; one employee names Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jim Belushi as two who have graced the premises. more

food was good 2/15/2011

We found this place walking along Michigan Avenue on our way to working at the Jazz festival. Cute outside seating area was very appealing. The food was good, diner type fare that was perfect for breakfast. more

pleasant lunch 2/9/2011

We had a pleasant lunch here. The inside is such a throwback to a 50s dining restaurant. Loved it. Food was good - I had a club called some British aristocratic name: Wellington? Huntington? Anyways...it was tasty. My bf had a similar sandwich on a croissant, which he said was also good. They have an impressive drink menu, and the dessert selection was pretty awesome. more

calmness 2/4/2011

I stopped in with my friend after the ballet and had some coffee and pie. I've been here before and just enjoyed the calmness of the place. No one bugs you and the waitstaff is friendly. The pie was excellent and the service is fast. Price isn't bad at all and you'll get classic diner food. I'd go back again if I'm in the area. more

we'll be back. 2/1/2011

I love that they have Greek Coffee and that the waitress' attitude became really much more friendly once I did order it. I guess that touch was more throughout the place. Thanks Artist's, we'll be back. more

classic Diner 1/26/2011

Here's a classic Diner that has retained all the glory of the past. It's neon lights outside light up the outdoor patio, with a long counter and small booths wrapped around. The register and pies greet you walking in, and the old details of brass and leather are everywhere. more

satisfied 1/24/2011

I had a perfectly satisfactory gyros; lots of meat and a pile of Greek seasoned roasted potato slices. My wife had some kind of a steak salad he she was quite satisfied and said it was fresh and tasty. more
