Good to order, better to dine-in 12/1/2011

We've been eating from Thai Spices for about two years now, we've been there twice and always had great service and food. I'm not an authority on Thai food, but I enjoy it, and I enjoy eating here. When we eat in, we usually get sushi and it is prepared right when we order it. When we order delivery, we usually get a combination of Thai and Sushi, and while its good and convenient (we've ordered delivery about a dozen times), its much better at the restaurant (I think its because of the Styrofoam and the time it takes, neither their fault). Also, we live just across the Cary/Apex line in Apex, still within three miles of the restaurant, and they still deliver to us. I recommend it for a good Thai and/or Sushi meal more

More authentic Thai and Sushi at these locations... 11/29/2011

I gave this restaurant two tries and unfortunately I must say that the food is lacking in authentic Thai flavor, with watery sauces, and poorer quality than some other restaurants.\r \r If you want good Thai, go to Thaiphoon Bistro in Raleigh or Lotus Leaf in Cary. For over the top great Sushi, head to Yuri in Cary.\r \r Service is good but the food is not. more

My favorite restaurant. The food and environment is great. 6/16/2011

This restaurant is great. The environment is very inviting and the food is always great. The employees are friendly and are always helpful. I go to this restaurant at least a couple times a week depending on my schedule. I highly recommend it. more

Excellant food,ambience 7/8/2010

We love Thai food. I didn't realize this restaurant has been around for 2 years. Just took a chance for lunch and didn't regret it...and found an excellent Thai place just round the corner in the bargain. I had red curry. Having tasted red curry in some of the finest Thai restaurants in downtown San Jose, CA, I am fairly particular about it and was most pleasantly surprised. The waiter insisted that I can handle ""hot, spicy"" and he was right. The veggies were nice and crisp, the aroma of herbs straight from a Thai home. We are vegetarians. The person serving us spent time with us with a suggestion here and a veto there (where there was meat involved). There are plenty of selections for vegetarians. If you are Thai food lover, you must try it. If you are not, this might just be enough to make you one. My only regret was I had to get back to work ..which meant I couldn't sample the ""Chang"" beer... Pros: taste, service, atmosphere more

Good food and excellent service! 6/3/2010

My boyfriend and I tried this place for his birthday yesterday and were pleasantly surprised. We had miso soup to start with - nothing special there. I had two sushi rolls which were LARGE and fresh. He had the mixed assorted seafood and it was excellent - very tasty! Also, even though we arrived at about 8:20 pm, our server was very attentive and nice - we did not feel rushed as some small places make you feel when you are on of the last two tables to leave. We will definitely go again! Pros: Good sushi/Intimate Setting Cons: Close early on weekdays more

JUST OK 4/2/2010

We were skeptical from the moment we walked in because there was nobody in the restaurant on a Tuesday night @ 6:30pm. We had a coupon from the Citipass book for 1 free entree so we decided to stay. The service was very good and the waitress was friendly. We were not overly impressed with the food. My husband had a chicken/veggie/pineapple dish which had almost no chicken in it. I had a specialty sushi roll which was average (compared to other sushi places in the area). When we went to pay w/ the coupon they said it wasn't valid on sushi. Nowhere in the Citipass book was this indicated and I showed them the book. They still would not accept the coupon. Having worked in the food industry before, I find that totally unacceptable and will not return nor recommend this restaurant to friends. Pros: Clean, friendly service Cons: food was just average, didn't accept coupon more

This restaurant is outstanding. 3/28/2010

This is the Thai restaurant I have been waiting for since I moved here from Boston 7 years ago. The restaurant is intimate, great ambiance and decor, romantic with little lit candles along the wall, and the food is fantastic! It's very fresh, very flavorful, and made with care. I had the wonton soup, which is out of this world (again, very fresh ingredients, fresh cilantro on top, chicken and shrimp mixed with the wontons in a fragrant, flavorful broth) and the Pad Thai. I'm so picky about Pad Thai and they make theirs perfectly, not greasy or mushy. I ordered extra lime juice on the side because I love the tanginess of it. My husband had a green curry and it was VERY hot, very fresh, and amazingly good. I'm just so relieved to finally have a Thai restaurant that knows what they're doing around here! Pros: fresh, authentic, flavorful, romantic, great service more

Sub-par sushi 5/23/2009

I was really disappointed in the sushi quality here. I usually go to Sushi Thai on Kilmayne but I decided to try something new and this place got good reviews. I can't speak for the Thai food because I didn't have any. The best part of my meal was the peanut dressing house salad. As far as the rolls, the sushi rice was not good - kind of gelled together like the lower quality ones you get at the grocery store. The unagi (eel) roll had a weird taste - like half of the fillings was eel skin instead of meat. Bottom line: Don't count on good sushi when going here. I wanted to treat myself to a yummy lunch after a hard week at work but ended up being disappointed in my choice. Pros: nice enough interior, reasonable prices Cons: poor sushi quality more

Best thai food in the Triangle 2/12/2009

Thai spice and sushi is one of the best restaurants that serves Thai food in the triangle. Excellent service, delicious food! This place offers great options for vegetarians. The ambience is peaceful with the sound of a water fountain in the background and they were playing Jazz music which made it a perfect Friday night dinner outing. The House red curry with vegetables was excellent. Definitely one of the better Thai food that I have ever eaten in this area. Overall, a great dining experience!! Pros: Plenty of vegetarian options more

Thai Spices and Sushi was wonderful! 2/7/2009

My wife and I shared the Panang Beef Curry in a red sauce and the Sauteed Assortment Seafood entrees. Both had very delicious sauces and were served with jasmine rice. The serving sizes were perfect. My wife had the Thai Tea(sweet). It too was delicious. It appeared to be kid friendly, there were several families with small children, so next time we are going to bring our kids. Oh, and the price was right too. Pros: Authentic Thai Food more

Hidden Gem! 1/29/2009

Would not have known about this place unless someone had suggested it. I've lived 3 miles away for a few years now and never noticed it. Part of the issue for me may have been that its in a strip mall. Moving here from NYC and LA I just don't connect good eateries with a strip mall. Enough about that...that's my issue.\r \r This place rocks! Didn't try the Sushi so can't speak to that. The Thai dishes were great!!! Best Thai I've had since leaving Southern California. Menu was straightforward and not all difficult to navigate. Food came fast, was well presented and very, very delicious. Our waitress was sweet, knowledgeable and attentive. To top it all off.....the prices were decent. My wife and I had one appetizer, two Thai beers and two of teh House Special Thai dishes. Total w/ tip (20%) was under $50.\r \r Highly recommended. Pros: Decent prices, nice ambience, good service and very, very good food. Cons: None. more

Great Thai in Cary 1/4/2009

I just ordered from Thai Spices for the first time today. First of all, they deliver!! (within a 3mile radius)\r I ordered the Spicy Chicken Basil, House Curry (red), and some Tom Yum soup.\r All were great. We especially liked the House Curry. The ingredients were fresh and tasty.\r We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes Thai food. We didn't try the sushi so I can't comment on that....plus I usually will only order sushi at a sushi restaurant. But for Thai food, we will be back for sure. Finally some good Thai in the Cary/Morrisville area. Pros: Great food, friendly staff Cons: small portions for the price more

Best Thai food in the Triangle 12/15/2008

Hands down the best Thai food in the area -- and we've tried most of the rest. The dishes are all fabulous, but the Panang Chicken is a huge winner with everyone. Everything we've tried on the Thai menu has been great, appetizers included. Their sushi isn't quite as good as a straight sushi place, but it's still pretty good. And the atmosphere is very nice -- the interior is beautiful, with great decorations and hardwoods. Finally, the staff is incredibly helpful and nice. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!! Pros: Thai food, ambiance, service more

Best Thai in RTP indeed 6/16/2008

This is by far the best Thai restaurant in the area. Having read the below-average review posted here on 6/8/2008 I am again reminded that RTP really does not deserve the best. Everything I have tried on the menu is most authentic Thai, not a study or a copy of another restaurant. Regardless of whether you think it is authentic or not, the food is excellent. This is not a restaurant to eat the best Nigiri, but the Sushi rolls are also excellent. Try the beef salad (Yum Neua), the fresh rolls with the shrimp instead of the Tofu, which the staff will gladly subsitute, the dumplings or anything Thai on the menu. You will be served the best Thai in North Carolina. Pros: Excellent Thai, pleasant staff, great service, best Thai Tea more

Unoriginal and half-baked 6/8/2008

I had pineapple fried rice and tofu with spinach. Pretty much everything tastes good to me, but I know if something tastes better than the other, and every other Thai food I had at other restaurants tastes better than what they serve here. Based on the unoriginal menu items, I think they just studied what the other guys are doing and decided to copy the dishes. The only problem is that I don't think they do it as well as those guys(that means all the other restaurants). \r This is a sad replacement for Mama Wok. The decor is really nice. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food more

Great Thai Food! 4/26/2008

We have eaten at a ton of Thai restaurants every place we have lived. This ranks up at the top. Flavorful food, great staff, very nice. Highly recommended. more

Pleasantly Surprised!! 4/7/2008

Excellent food. Friendly service. Nice decor. What more do you need? Well the location could be better. It's in a strip mall. But hey it's Cary! At least you don't have to drive to Raleigh to get decent Thai food.\r \r Pros: Food Cons: They should extend their dinner hours... more
