Thai Smile Restaurant

I can understand some of the previous reviews about the rudeness of "owner." Be assured, he was the "manager," no longer there, who is locally known as less than friendly. It's a wonder the previous owners managed to survive. Ownership changed but the menu did not, nor did the kitchen. If anything, there is improvement all around. By far, this is the best Thai food in the desert for the price. Service? Great! Friendly? Absolutely. Celebrities are picky, and you will see them here, again and again, whenever they visit the desert. Tasty! And inexpensive! more

My wife and I visited just last week (Apr 09), and was pleased to discover that the food is as good, if not better, than ever. I love their yellow curry (chicken). My wife loves the Pad Thai. The name is slightly changed -- Thai Smile of Rancho Mirage -- but everything else remains the same. You will not be disappointed in the new owners' continuation of "The Best Thai Food In The Valley" (my slogan, not theirs). I've noticed that, since the La Quinta Thai Smile closed, Rancho Mirage's business has increased. Come on back! more

10/4/07 - The review by Cindy J. is incorrect. Thai Smile, Rancho Mirage, does not have a pick up window. Perhaps she was at the Thai Smile, La Kwinta, location. She's not wrong about the food, however. It is the best Thai cuisine in the desert. I have no idea what she meant in her statements: ... what these folks' food had coming to it. It wasn't gonna be pretty... or hygienic, but it was gonna be funny... I call that weird recollection. My dining experiences at the Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs locations have been outstanding. I love their Chicken Yellow Curry, and the Pad Thai is incredibly delicious. The menu is extensive, the wait staff courteous and efficient, and the food delectable. Haven't been to the La Kwinta location to dine, but I'll bet it's good! more

Let me preface this (I think I preface every review) by saying that I'm from Seattle, and am somewhat of a thai food snob. I went into Thai Smile with low expectations, since it seems there are only a couple thai restaurants in the desert. I was pleasantly surprised. First thing I noticed as a I walked up was a separate pick up window, very well done. I hate it when you go to a restaurant that does heavy to-go business and you have to wade through all the people just to get to the host. The wait: About 10 minutes, which was fine by me since we didn't have any reservations. Service: A little rushed. The table behind us said "Hey Justin, how about that food we ordered? Justin time to get us our dinner, huh?" Now, I've worked in restaurants, and I know what these folks' food had coming to it. It wasn't gonna be pretty...or hygienic, but it was gonna be funny. Food: A very pleasant surprise. I had to ask for the spice rack so I could add red pepper because they definitely tone down the spice around hear to cater to their clientèle. The vegetables were crisp and the noodles weren't over cooked. Overall it was not great, but a solid offering. Good day. more
