Unblucky if you survive 3/25/2011

I took my boyfriend skydiving for his birthday. It was a surprise so I paid for DVDs to be made of our jumps. Since it was a 1st time jump for both of us I paid a total of $502 for two static-line jumps and two DVDs which the owner requested payment for prior to training or jumping. Once we got there, and my boyfriend realized I had paid for the DVDs, my boyfriend elected not to have the DVDs made. I spoke with the owner about this matter 3 times before we jumped. She agreed to refund my card for the amount of the DVDs that were to be made, a total of $180, but asked that we go ahead and jump and deal with the paperwork afterwards. My boyfriend jumped first with no problems. I jumped next. When my parachute deployed it was tangled and not fully open. I used the techniques I learned in training, pull the stabilizers apart and kick, as an attempt to open my parachute fully. Unfortunately the parachute was too tangled to come apart and I had to cut the shoot. So I did what in training they called a ?Look, Look, Touch, Touch, Pull, Pull.? Basically I looked for my emergency pulls, I placed my hands on the pulls, and then I pulled them straight down. The first pull is your parachute cut away which means it cuts away the tangled parachute so that you may engage your reserve. Then I pulled my reserve cord. There is about a 3 second gap from the cutaway from the old parachute and the opening of the new parachute where you are just free falling again. My new parachute engaged and I made it safely to the ground. Once on the ground the owner met me on the field to ask if I knew where the old parachute and some parts of my emergency pulls had landed. I told her I had no idea considering I was only thinking about the deployment of a working parachute while I was in the air. The owner immediately got on the phone to call someone about part pricing. When I asked her what was going on, and if she was going to give us the refund for the DVDs that were not made, she stated I had lost a part on one of the emergency pulls when I activated my new parachute and therefore she would have to charge me for the dis-engaged parachute and emergency pull. The pull was $176 and the parachute was $350. I told the owner that there is nothing in any of the paperwork that was given to us stating that I would be financially responsible for anything if broken or lost, nor had anyone said that we would be financially responsible during our 4 1/2 hour training. The owner?s response to that was that she would be generous and just charge me for the missing emergency pull part, $176, and not the tangled parachute I had cut away. At that point she refused to refund my card and proceeded to be extremely rude. My boyfriend and I had to contact the police who came out and took statements from all the staff members. Come to find out the individual who had packed my parachute had only worked there for two weeks and had never actually skydived himself. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Look for another facility that has a trained staff and who isn?t so hard up for money. You will enjoy yourself a lot more and won?t have to call the police on your boyfriend?s birthday. more

We had a great time yesterday. 3 of us went out and did 2 AFF jumps each from 11000'. James has a LOT of jumps on his record and was a great jumpmaster and a nice guy. Austin and Cindy were great as well! We'll be coming back as often as financially possible :) more

Great Skydiving 9/24/2010

I took a tandem jump this weekend and, even though I had issues with my card, and some other problems, everyone was so kind and helpful. The manager solved my problems for me, and I had a great skydive with Danial and Austin. I highly recomment this company. Thank you so much. more

Extra treat for me 9/17/2010

I just wanted to say thank you for making my 40th Birthday a great day! The extra treat for me as it turns out was that I wanted to jump at sunset. Tell all the guys they did a great job. The guy I jumped with did a great job and I felt very safe with him and had a ton of fun. The video guy put together a great DVD for me as well as fantastic still shots.Again, thanks for the great jump!!!! more

You made my day!! 9/13/2010

Oh, Texas Skydiving. You made my day! I came with a group of friends on a sunny Saturday and couldn't have asked for a better experience. There were nine of us, so we hung out for quite awhile and asked your staff every question we could think of. ""What happens if we dive through a cloud?"" ""Does anyone ever panic when they're in the plane?"" ""What happens if the tandem dude has a heart attack on the way down?"" And they answered every single one of them - with a smile on their face. My ""tandem dude"" was really nice and chatted with me the whole way down - It was a wonderful experience and this helped calm my nerves even more. more

awesome skydiving experience 9/1/2010

Thank you so much for an amazing and awesome skydiving experience as we celebrated my husband Joel's birthday. There aren't any words adequate to describe how great you all are. I never thought I'd skydive, but now I can't wait to do it again. We will definitely be back for more. Thank you. more

Second time there for our group! 5/14/2010

This was our second trip to this facility. We arrived early and took some snacks and hung out at the observation area and enjoyed the beautiful day while we waited for our jump. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, and the whole atmosphere was one of thrill and delight. As before, our jumpmasters were a blast and the whole experience was incredible. What a great place to take your group. We are already planning our third trip! Pros: beautiful views; loved the petting zoo Cons: 50-min drive from Austin more

First time, definently not last 2/3/2010

WOW! I just took my first tandem jump at Texas Sky Diving Center and I had a blast. I searched texas skydiving and the first site that came up was for a small sky diving center in Lexington. Despite a number of negative reviews I decided the price was within what I was looking to spend and close enough that I had nothing to lose (I mean sky diving is supposed to be dangerous right?!). I took a short training with James, who couldn't have been more friendly. Honestly the time I spent in freefall had to be the best 35 seconds of my life! We had an awesome slow glide into a nice soft landing. AND THE VIEW!!!!!! I would recommend Texas Sky Diving center for any first time diver. Pros: Friendly, Affordable, Fun Cons: hard to convience friends to come with more

BAD CARMA 11/4/2008

My husband and son went skydiving out at Texas Skydiving Center summer of 2007,And was in a plane accident out there. The pilot forgot to fuel up the airplain, They took off, got about a 100 or so feet off the ground, ran out of fuel and crashed. luckly they walked out of it with minor cuts and bruises, but till this day they both complain of back & neck aches. When asked if the owner had insurance, she informed us that she doesn't carry insurance. She didn't even report the accident until word and pictures of the accident showed up on the internet from one of the other skydivers that saw the plane reck and took pictures. she even wanted my husband & son to lie for her so she wouldn't get her licence pulled.when the owner was contacted by the USPA for investigation. The owner told them that she didn't know how to contact my husband or my son (which was a lie because we lived just down the same street from her) and my son was working for her. she didn't want them to tell the trueth because she would be in big trouble. I have no complants about sky diving, My husband and 2 sons just love it. And soon I will make my first jump. Just not there. I just don't recomend this place if you value your life. Go some where else where they realy care about their customers safety. Cons: Owner was rude, a lier, and dangerouse. more

this place is going down 11/4/2008

this place needs to be closed down for good. air plane accidents not reported. so many new skydivers going off course. tandum instructors trying to get their ratings before they are qualified. pilots not having proper qualifications.teenagers as young as 14 packing tandum parachutes with out an instructor. animals running loose all over the runway while the plane is taking off & landing. teenagers running the office. is this the kind of place you want to be at, i know i dont. if do decide to go, good luck because you'll need it. Pros: nice veiw Cons: bad service, unqualified workers, accidents waiting to happen & has happened more

avoid this place, zero customer service skills! 7/28/2008

This place is a nightmare. Pros: Skidving staff was helpful and had a good attitude Cons: The owner has zero respect for customers, and zero customer skills more

Extremely bad management, bad video, avoid at all costs!!!! 6/16/2008

5 of us made reservations to this place on Sat for tandem jumps. when we got there we noticed there was a group of people already there waiting. Thinking that there may be more than one skydive instructor or that multiple tandem jumps can occur simultaneously, we found out immediately that there was only one skydive instructor for tandem and only one plane at that place. We also found out it took close to 30+ minutes/person. Considering that 5-6 people were already waiting meant our group had to wait at least 2-3 hours for our turn. So our scheduled reservation meant nothing and we were going to waste our time just sitting around waiting for these other people. What kind of management would schedule people at the same time w/ other groups if they only had one instructor for tandem?!?! We assumed that once we got there at our scheduled time, we would get suited up and ready to go after training. Not only that but the regular video guy was sick, and some inexperienced guy took his place. When we finished our skydive we went to check out our video and mine totally sucked and barely showed me for 5 seconds freefalling. When I asked why, the cameraman said he ran out of tape, and offered only a $25discount(dvd is $89). Also, for the video of the others in the group, our heads were barely in view and mostly chopped off. Not to mention that they also lost the tape for one of the guys in the group and he had to wait 2-3 hours after for them to find it. The only ok rating I would give is the skydive instructor. He was professional and answered all questions I had, and made me feel it was safe to jump. I actually felt bad for him cause he almost never took breaks and tried to accomodate everyone as quick as possible. By the way, my other friend told me that unlike Texas Skydiving, the other place he went too provided jumping suits and they were ready to jump once they got there during their scheduled time. Will never go back to this sh..ty place again. Pros: cheaper than other places ($20 savings) Cons: bad management, bad video, bad service overall more

Not a rip off, I was there. This is a great place. 5/7/2008

The person who wrote the negative review below left off a few points: Pros: Nice facilities, cool, fun and knowledgeable staff. Cons: Not the Center's fault, this sport is highly dependent on the weather. Be sure to check in advance. more

Rip off! 4/28/2008

My husband, son and I went to do a jump a couple of weeks ago. We got there at 9am and went through their training to do a static jump. The video disclaimer (you can be hurt badly even die) that they showed us said that at any time before we suit up we could get a full refund. We went through most of the training but we decided not to do the jump. They would not give us a refund of $765. They told us that we have to come back another weekend and jump. We live north of Dallas and were only in Austin for the weekend and told her we would not come back. She still would not give us our money back. This place is a rip off! more

Awesome 1/29/2003

Awesome is the only way to describe the experience of jumping out of a plane at 11,000ft above the earth. The staff at Austin Skydiving were all extremely nice and patient. They each had the understanding needed to deal with 4 crazy girls from Boston. I would strongly recommend going to ASC for the best and most fullfilling free fall ever to be had. Pros: inexpensive, very nice Cons: a bit out of the way more
