Since I've never been to Texas, I have to take the word of Texas Roadhouse that the fare served there is authentic Texas cuisine. Either way, it's a truly great place to get some beef. When I first started going there, I got the smothered chicken because I am never sure how the beef at a restaurant is going to be. I'm not a huge beef eater, but I do enjoy a good steak. My husband is pretty handy at the grill, so I usually wait for him to throw some red meat on and save my restaurant choices for chicken. I'm weird like that.
Their smothered chicken is out of this world. Add a loaded baked sweet potato, and you're one step closer to heaven.
At least that is what I thought until I tried their sirloin. You're not close to heaven, you're beatin' down the door. I thought that I could just let this juicy morsel melt in my mouth. I love the mushroom/onion cheese smothering option too, although most of the time the onions are a wee bit strong.
They serve sweet tea there, which is something I don't see too much of here in Iowa. Coming from Florida where sweet tea was the norm, it's nice to see that again.
Here's a tip for all you folks ready to try this place if you haven't. CALL AHEAD SEATING. If you ever drive by Texas Roadhouse at dinnertime, you'll notice a whole mess of cars in the lot and people milling about outside munching on peanuts while waiting an hour for a table. While this place is awesome, I'm of the opinion that there are not too many places worth waiting over ten minutes in line for. If you call ahead to Texas Roadhouse, they will give you a number and in thirty minutes, you walk in give them your number and are seated in about 5 minutes or less (watch the stares of those unfortunates who have been outside gnawing peanuts for the last hour and don't know this trick as they see you waltz in the front door and promptly get seated).
Try Texas Roadhouse, you'll be glad you did!
