This is usually a very good shop BUT I left a $300 cash deposit for a tattoo at the Jones road location. Had consult with the artist and made an appointment a week in advance. 20 minutes before my appointment I was called by the shop and asked of I could push my appointment back an hour, which was fine. Until I asked why? And was told that the artists were recuperating from going to a Rancid show the night before and the artist hadn't even finished drawing my tattoo.This tattoo was to be on my hand. There's NO way I was going to let a "" recuperating ""artist that hadn't even finished the drawing tattoo my hand. ESPECIALLY since I have 1 sleeve previously done by an artist Johnny Jackson hired that NO ONE will touch up after 6 years due to the specific style the artist had. To make it worse when I contacted the owner Johnny Jackson, I was told that I would have to get my deposit back from HIM and I would have to waste my time, gas and put mileage on my car to meet him when HE was available. I am shocked and appalled at the and unprofessional-ism of both the owner and the artist at this shop. Just beware of what you're getting into if you are considering getting a bigger piece done here. Your artist may not stick around long enough to finish it or you may just get a tattoo from a "" recuperating "" artist whom desires to eat and finish a drawing that should have been finished with and colored for approval.\r \r And top top it all off Johnny Jackson called me and asked me not to put this review on yelp. He then screamed profanity's at me and has sent me harassing rude text messages, because he doesn't want his ""15 years of hard work jeopardized on yelp""( which I have recorded) \r \r I dont recommend this shop at all the professional skills of the owner are appalling. I have now had to contact the police because of the text messages and refusal to return my deposit, because I wrote this review..NO CLIENT SHOULD EVER BE SCREAMED AT IN PROFANITY AND HUNG UP ON BY THE OWNER OF THIS SHOP.\r \r Not to mention that I had my nipples pierced here as well, I was told by the main piercer ( who is great ) that the piercer Johnny Jackson had hired and had to fire ( due to heroin use in the bathroom at work) the piercer that pierced my nipples had pierced them to deep into my nipple , and that if I wanted the Horizontal and vertical piercing I wanted that I had to take them out and heal for a month and pay to have them re-pierced. Unless your personal artist works here, and you are happy with their work DO NOT walk in a let the next artist up tattoo you, I guarantee you'll be disappointed and you'll just have to go some where else and pay good money to have Johnny Jackson Texas Body Art's work fixed by a qualified shop. more

JORGE GWOOKI for BIOMECHANICAL tattoos, dark art, or coverups. I have had the pleasure for Gwooki to do a color biomechanical calve sleeve and a 3/4 black and gray biomechanical arm sleeve which is in progress. These tattoos will be featured in the Biomechanical Encyclopedia. This book is a 300 page collaboration of the top biomechanical artist in the world and is being put together by Guy Aitchison who is the pioneer of biomechanical tattoos and Gwooki and his art-tattoos will be featured in this book. He has also fixed a chest piece of mine and a half sleeve in which he incorporated biomech into it. He also did a massive coverup on my wife's back and you can't even see what was there before and it's not even finished. I have pictures of these tattoos on my profile and I posted them on here, I am just not sure how citysearch works exactly so you can view them. His attention to detail in making sure you like the tattoo before you start is like no other. He uses photoshop to create your idea then draws it on your body with a sharpie so the tattoo flows with the anatomy of your body which as sick as hell to see him do. He is a very laid back, talented, and fun person to get tattooed by and will definitely make it a memorable experience. I am a huge fan of biomech tattoos and I follow the best in the world and I can say that Gwooki is one of the best. His biomech is completely different, intricate, and more 3 dimensional than any other artist. He has his own style which has yet to be replicated and continues to evolve piece by piece. If you are looking for a biomechanical artist, dark artist, or need a tattoo you hate and you want to cover it up with biomech and you are in Texas stop thinking about it and make the trip!!! If you are farther away get in a plane and fly to Houston for it will be well worth it! He works at the Original Texas Body Art location. more

I adore Texas Body Art...I have been here several times 4 to be exact and I would never go to any other shop but here. Johnny Jackson is my main artist there and he is amazing at what he does. Very professional, makes you feel comfortable, privacy, plus the environment of the shop is amazing when you walk in there you feel like you are at a tattoo museum in some ways. I will never go to another shop but this place in my home city of Houston. They have showed me that tattoos are ment to be true art work not just some flash off the wall that is a fad. If you are looking for the top notch, professionalism, and the best this is the place for you. all the artist are amazing here. So what are you waiting for? Go to Texas Body Art! You won't regret it.. more

No Communication Leads to Very Bad Experience 4/9/2012

This place seems to be great at first. The artists are talented. The environment is clean. And generally the attitude seems to be in check. But at the end of the day, this place still gets only one star for lack of understanding and communication. My girlfriend and I went into the shop yesterday (04/08/2012) to get some work done for her. She knew what she wanted, and told the artist who was going to be tattooing her. He comped it up real quick, and it looked great. They put the temporary on her, and she liked it. He started to tattoo her, and at first everything looked great, but then about half way through, we both looked over at her wrist (where she was getting the work done) and the artist had started to do this really elaborate shading/glow around the edge of the design. My girlfriend is not happy with this. It isn't what she wanted, and it wasn't ever discussed or on any of the preliminary designs/comps, and also wasn't part of the temporary that got put on her. The piece does look good, but it's not what SHE wanted, nor expected she was getting. This is the first rule of customer service oriented professions, and they broke it. These guys need to put their egos aside and start focusing on customer service. And even with a large ego, it's one thing to say ""this is what I want to do with your design"" and entirely another to say ""I'm going to do this without even asking you first"" more

I just wanted to say that I have been here twice and each time that I have came here I have only gotten the best out of each artist that I have seen. Jason Coquel did my cover up on my chest piece and he did a amazing job. He is very very good with color and his style is incredible you can tell that this is his passion. My second time that I went I got to get my first and my most fav tattoo done by the wonderful Johnny Jackson, he is the owner of the shop...he did a amazing piece on my right upper thigh in about 5 hours with breaks. He was very much into his work , but at the same time he was also very much making sure that I was okay and if we needed a break here or there. The best customer care a person can ask for. This place is clean, there is no fake artist here they are all award winning and I am looking forward to coming back. The atmosphere there welcomes you and the way the place is decorated is amazing!! If you are looking to get a tattoo this place is it!! There is no other place that will match this place in my opinion and I have been to other tattoo shops I just wish I knew about this place before hand but I was young. I will never go back the only place I will get my tattoos at for now on is from Texas Body Arts! If you want real art, real commitment, and people who actually know what there doing come here!! more

Awesome experience! 9/22/2011

I visited a friend in Houston and thought this would be a great opportunity to find a shop and start on that half-sleeve I always wanted. Looked them up online and the drove over too make an appointment. Thought it was funny and coincidental that the first person I talk to in the shop( David Gray), was the best in the the style I wanted ( Black & Gray). I gave him my ideas, visions and pictures from my usb-stick and we talked about the tattoo and how it should be. When I came back and saw the sketch I had no doubt in my mind that this was what I wanted. Me and David got along great and time went by fast. After a few hours with tattooing and short breaks we ordered pizza with some of the other guys at the shop. Halfway through the session we both agreed that we would do the whole sleeve in one session. It took 13 hours of tattooing and it was totally worth the pain. After we got done I got the first draft of the sketch as a gift,signed by David Gray. The environment there was good and I felt comfortable and relaxed even though this was my first tattoo and a rather large tattoo at that. I recommend this shop to the fullest and I will definitely be back to get the rest of my sleeve done! Special thanks to David Gray for his art. more

HORRIBLE!!! A waste of money & time! 9/7/2011

All I can say is...this place is horrible, the worst! My experiences there were not pleasant at all. The only pro about this place is the art work, that's it! The service is just terrible, they leave you waiting forever or don't even attend you. I had to go find someone to help me out. (Yes, even when there is nobody in the store..they do this!) & not to mention most of the staff are complete jerks! The only friendly person in the place is the guy that does piercings (I believe his name is...Jason?), that's it. Basically, customer service is the pits in this place. A monkey gives better customer service, what does that tell you? It sucks! The worst, however, is trying to set up an appointment (they have this dumb rule where ONLY the artist who did your tattoo(s), can work on it). Basically, the faith of your tattoo is in the hands of the artist. Well, I was not about to let that happen..After many times of trying to get in contact with my guy who was a complete sleazeball (Jorge) & could never manage to get through, I gave up and found myself a way better tattoo artist who was able to fix me up & not to mention, made my tattoo sparkle (in another tattoo shop, mind you). There are lots of better places to go to than this joint for tattoos, piercings, etc. Don't bother, you'll be dissapointed. Worst customer service ever! And this place won awards!? HA! puh-leez, they must've put on one great act, because they suck! I will never come back to this place again! Thanks for nothing Texas Body Art!!! more

I went in to get a touch up on an old tattoo..Gabriel made some recommendations and we ended up covering up the old tattoo with AMAZING artwork...cant see the old tattoo at all and the new one is beautiful! What can i say ?.I was referred to jason by my friend and I'm glad I listened to her! He fixed my tattoo on my left arm he made it more colorful prettier,etc. We started talking about how I wanted a sleeve I basicly told him what I wanted and he just started saying some badass ideas!!! He came up with the colors and placement I trust him and outcome was BEAUTIFULLLLL,BADASS,AWESOME,SPEECHLESS,ETC. Jason = a badass artist for sure!!! Btw he always makes time even on his day off ! That's some dedication!!! Can't wait to get a lot more! more

I highly recommend TBA. I have work by Johnny ""Inkaholik"" Jackson and AJ. All pieces are beautiful, custom works of art. My bf has a sleeve being done by Jorge Gwooki that is absolutely stunning. Again a custom piece. All artists are very professional and do everything they can to make you comfortable during the tattoo process. Being a chick, this is important to me ;) . I have been a customer of TBA for 5yrs and will never go to another shop. TBA has impeccable artists that can satisfy any craving of art you may desire to put on your body. The shop is awesome with a friendly and very helpful staff. The shop is super clean!!! Again another important factor when choosing a tattoo parlor. Johnny has been known to tattoo famous people and professional athletes in his shop. So stop by.... who knows who you might run into at TBA!!! Thanks AJ & Johnny!!!! I love my art!!! more

True Masters of their craft 6/27/2011

I found this company while at a tattoo convention in San Antonio. I couldn?t have been more happy with the quality of work and professionalism each artist displayed. The artists (as well as everyone else behind the booths) were friendly and very welcoming, and the attention to detail they display in their work proves they are true masters of their craft. I got a tattoo from David Grey while at the convention and I will gladly make the drive from Baytown to continue adding to this piece. David is a great artist, I do not have any tats from any of the others but their portfolios were very good, that with their professional manners I would feel comfortable getting inked by any of the artists i spoke with. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for quality and professionalism. When it comes to getting a tattoo you get what you pay for and trust me I?ve gotten some pretty bad ones over the years, but the feeling of leaving that chair extremely pleased and happy with the end result is priceless. Thank you David Grey, for your attention to detail and ability to capture it on such a small scale. more

My friend recommended this tattoo studio to me for my first tattoo. I waited 2 hours for an opening to get a simple tattoo, I had no problem waiting as I could see most of the artist were busy working on drawing or clients. But the guy who did mine was walking around for the 2 hours I was waiting and went outside to smoke with his girlfriend who was sitting around the shop just to be ""cool"" before he finally came in to give me a tattoo. It kind of irritated me to see him wandering around the shop not doing anything, not even helping another artist; it made me feel like his wandering around was more importnant than taking care of a client. If he was on break or not on the clock yet, he should have stayed in the back and not wandering around front area/waiting area for 2 hours. more

My hubby and I went to get a tattoo, just to cover up a 4 letter 1/2 inch name. They couldn't do it because they wanted me to leave them a sketch of my tattoo and go back tomorrow so they can come up with something amazing, my leg is not their personal canvas. I felt belittled. OMG! They were acting like the cameras were rolling.Goodness! I would of paid 500 bucks just to get ride of the friggin name. Their loss. Got it covered somewhere else. more
