A Blast from the Past 7/11/2009

Okay i went to Teds as a child in the 70's and it was in my memory for the toast, potatoes, and ribs. In Cali you don't find as many BEEF rib joints. While visiting this last time we went down to see if we could find that ole flavor of excellent bbq. Boy were we pleased. I was excited to see they have grown and won numerous awards. There was also more of a selection now of food to eat. I have to go back and eat again. I loved it. Great sauce with three options of mild, med or hot. Beef ribs charred and tender. Get the potatoes slathered in sauce. Loved it. Pros: Hot Food Done Right Cons: Mostly Take Out more

What is everyone raving about? 5/31/2009

I live close to this place and people are always coming and going from here. After almost 2 years I gave it a shot. I got a pulled beef sandwich and the sauce was red and didnt cover all the beef so it was dry for most bites. The potatoes or chips are sliced like potato chips an d friend, but they werent fried enough and they stuck together like raw french fries. I feel like if they would have given me the chips all cooked it would have been a better meal as i like home made chips. I didn't try the coleslaw because I dont like coleslaw. The menu items were posted on the walls - the pictures were taken of the items in their to-go containers, kinda lame. The area where you order and wait was so outdated, that place needs a remodel. I dont know why people go here. Cons: awkward ordering area, dry meat more

Great Classic Bbq 3/9/2009

I've been going to 19th Hole (Ted Cooks) since I was a child, I'm 30 now!! I treat myself to Ted Cools acouple times a month. Everyone who's tried it loves it!! more

best BBQ in minnesota 11/5/2008

It's hard to find great BBQ in Minnesota, if you've been to the south you know what I mean. Ted Cook's definitely rates in the very top of Minnesota BBQs. Their sauce is great and I love their potatoes. If you like hot BBQ then you must try the hot sauce. I've eaten here hundreds of times and only once were the pork ribs not good. The price is fairly in line with other minnesota BBQ joints, but none compare in taste. Pros: great BBQ, great sauce, decent prices, good people Cons: small place but I always take out anyway more

Best BBQ EVER!!! 10/3/2008

I have been eating take-out from this place my entire life (usually the Mild Beef) and I love it!!! The best thing about this place is that the food never changes. The taste is always the exact same, and the menu is the same. Every other BBQ place that I have tried has paled in comparison to this wonderful place. The sauce is the best sauce ever thanks to their special recipe (that they REFUSE to share with me). Apparently only like 2 people know the recipe and the sauce is made off-site for added secrecy. But it's worth the mystery surrounding it. Cost-wise, a meal at this place will often end up being cheaper than a meal at Famous Dave's, and the portions are larger as well. The staff are very hospitable and extremely friendly, even when the place is packed (and it does get crowded!!!! But it's worth it.). The inside of the place is also very clean and the pictures on the wall will make you drool!!! Pros: Service, cleanliness, quality food, excellent taste, amazing BBQ sauce, great menu, reasonably priced, lots of side choices Cons: Can get a little crowded more

Good Food. 3/13/2008

The sauce is great and very original. The beef was a very good cut and hardly any fat. Nice friendly service. Take-out only. Pros: Friendly service. Cons: No seating more

Awesome BBQ 10/5/2007

As you can see from all of the other reviews, Ted Cooks has the BEST BBQ in the Twin Cities. The hot sauce is my favorite, and it is actually quite hot! The sides are good, the service is good, considering there's usually just one cashier handling everyone. Go get some tonight, you will not be disappointed! Pros: Great food! Cons: Hole in the wall location, parking, no sit down area. more

great ribs 9/14/2007

soooooooooo delicious. havent had ted's in a while but stumbled across the profile today. hopefully when I return soon the recent reviews dont lie. more

Best ribs north of Kansas City 7/15/2007

A few friends and I ordered take out from three bbq places today. I had never been to Ted Cook's and frankly had not heard much about it locally. It blew away my expectations to say the least. The beef ribs were out of this world! They were very tender, had a wonderful smokey flavor, and very meaty. The meal came with fabulous potatoes and we also picked up a few corn muffins, both of which were outstanding. This bbq guy has had some great bbq across the country and has found a great local place that I will head back to very very soon. Pros: Service, very cheap for the quality of food Cons: take out only more

Best BBQ in Twin Cities and more! 7/8/2007

This place has better ribs than the ones I've had in Kansas City! Sauce is awesome! The sides are so fresh and real soul food.......not that boiled and frozen stuff! When you drive by, the great smell lures you in..even if you're not hungry. Pros: Best food ever Cons: Take out only more

Best ever, but expensive 5/16/2007

The ribs were excellent. They had a great smoky flavor and there was a lot of meat. If I remember right, we chose to get the hot ribs - they actually had a little bit of a kick. If you can handle spicy food, I recommend getting them hot. \r The only bad thing is that they were expensive. After living in the south for years and experiencing a lot of bbq, a full set of ribs should not be $20 unless they're accompanied by white linens. I was surprised it was that much considering the citysearch price tag says $.\r With that said, I still recommend it. Pros: best ribs in town Cons: expensive more

Don't Do It!! 4/11/2007

Don't go to the 19th Hole if you ever want to enjoy BBQ again somewhere else. I have eaten at most of the joints on this list at least half a dozen times and they are all very good in their own way. But any time I stray somewhere else, all I can think of is how much better the BBQ is at the 19th Hole. Sure, like any great BBQ joint, they have thier ups and downs, but it is consistantly way above average. And when they are ""on"", there is nothing better anywhere. Not even close.\r \r If Cooks doesn't turn you on... good! You will probably like BBQ anywhere. But if you are cursed with knowing the difference between good and great, don't go to the 19th Hole. Nothing else will satisfy you agian!!! Pros: Unbeatable BBQ, Fast Service Cons: No Dining, Not Open 24/7!! more

Yum! 3/15/2007

It's hard to find good bbq in minnesota. This is the best stuff you'll find in the area. While I've had better in other parts of the country, I still gleefully pick up dinner there on may way home from work on a lot of Fridays. We love the bbq beef. Coleslaw, corn muffins and beans are a must of course! Not so big on their potatoes though so I'd recommend you skip that. Pros: It's just plain good! Cons: It's take out only. more

Real barbecue 9/5/2006

One of the few places in the Twin Cities that is worth going to for good bbq. Take out only. Not a huge selection, but most things here are better than anywhere else around. Sad to say, the pork ribs are the worst thing on the menu, and I wouldn't even get them again. But, in order, I will swear by the beef (even if not brisket), the beef ribs, and the chicken (even if pretty dry).\r This is one of the few places that actually has a little kick to the hot sauce. Pros: Real BBQ, hot sauce Cons: take out only more

Only place for BBQ 4/16/2006

Although I've only had the ribs, other have enjoyed the other options on the list. My 3 year old daughter will even eat a half rack of mild ribs!!! They are the best in the cities, or anywhere else for that matter. Pros: Great ribs, Inexpensive, Quick service Cons: No seating more

THE BEST 6/8/2005

The best I've been enjoying these woderful ribs since the late Ted Cook and his wife were the only emplyees. Always a treat!!! I have never been diappointed in all those years, except when they ran out before I got my order. My preference is hot but medium is great. Pros: Jo Jo's Cons: Coleslaw more

GREAT BBQ. 9/15/2003

THIS IS THE ONLY REAL OPEN PIT BARBEQUE SHOP IN THE TWIN CITIES. THE OTHERS ARE ONLY IMPOSTERS. IT TAKES MORE THAN SAUCE ON MEAT TO BE CALLED BARBEQUE, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! more

Coks is the best BBQ in the cities! 2/7/2003

I have dined at almost every resturaunt on this entire list... But let me tell you.. Im a painter in the local Mpls area, and was assghned a house next to Hiawatha .. near Ted Cooks. By accident one day, we decided to try this local, Family looking place down the street. I will never regret it. From now on, whenever im in the citites showing friends around, or visiting various landmarks.. Ted Cooks will be on the list. By thge way, NO resturaunts on this list come close to the great taste and flavor that ted cooks has to offer. The only downfall is the dining space, its vary limited, but the food definatly makes up for it. Ted Cooks, is by far, one of the best spots for ribs in the cities.. Trust me, give it a shot. Pros: Food, Service, Price Cons: Local, Dining space more

GREAT FOOD 2/1/2003

If you're looking to wine and dine, another would be fine. If you're looking to EAT GREAT BBQ Ted Cook's is the BEST. more

One of the best!!! 9/4/2002

Cook's Ribs are some of the best in town!! The sauce is awsome and you can get authentic sides such as greens and peach cobbler. I've taken many people from out of town here and they wondered how I ever found such a jewel. This place never gets much attention and it deserves much more!!!!!! Pros: Great food, Nice people Cons: No seating, Take out only more
