Beware: Owner Treats Customers Like Garbage! 5/10/2011

Tastings Caterers catered our wedding in August of 2009. The food was very good, with mostly positive feedback from our guests. (One person complained about dry chicken, but most guests were very satisfied.) However, Tastings’ co-owner Sue Zahner treated me in a very unprofessional manner in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and also sent me a rude, mean email about a year and a half after the wedding. The problem started when we were planning our tasting. Sue had seemed wonderful in our initial meeting. We live in NYC, but were planning a wedding in my hometown in MA. We explained our scheduling difficulties – my husband works market hours and was using all his vacation days for our honeymoon; I work at a church, so must be in NYC by Sunday morning. Sue promised to work around our schedules when planning a tasting. Starting in January of 2009, I tried to schedule our tasting. Sue had not told her employees of her promise and had forgotten all about it herself. We finally ended up with a tasting for the two of us and my parents on the Saturday night before Mother’s Day. There was a torrential downpour that night, and my parents were about 20 minutes late, but we offered to start without them. When they arrived they were very apologetic. Afterwards, I sent Sue some notes about what we liked/didn’t like/wanted to change. Sue sent back an email in which she excoriated me, my husband, and my parents for being 45 minutes late, and told me how rude it had been of me not to let her know that my father wasn’t coming. (My father was there.) She also told me how rude it was of me to demand a Saturday night tasting during wedding season (once again, she had agreed to this and we had tried to schedule in January.) In response to my request for a bit more garlic in the tzatziki dip, Sue suggested that I make it myself. In several conversations trying to sort this out, Sue never apologized and was insistent that my father was not at the tasting. In the following weeks, Sue began to treat us poorly: she added a cake-cutting fee, and did not waive it until I produced an email from her written several months prior indicating that she would not charge this fee. When we requested that some leftovers be sent to our honeymoon suite (which she had earlier said they always do), she informed us that there are never any leftovers. Dealing with Sue Zahner in the weeks before my wedding turned me into a nervous wreck; my heart pounded and my hands shook whenever I saw an email from her in my inbox. I was so anxious about how she would behave that I hired a wedding coordinator at the last second so that I would not have to deal with Sue. The wedding coordinator was not very good, and managed her time poorly so that she did not have time to change into professional attire before the wedding. I was not impressed with her, but at least kept a buffer zone between Sue and me. In February of 2011 (18 months after our wedding), I received this email, which I am quoting in its entirety: “Your wedding reception makes us laugh every time we think of it and the memories of your party planner that night at your FORMAL wedding.... dressed in her blue jeans, non-fitting sweater, chunky pocketbook and no knowledge of weddings.. .just adds to the fun. I bet you are so happy that you had her on your side. I will be talking about your particular reception at an upcoming seminar that includes these details, so others get this picture. Just thought you'd like to know. Thanks so much for opening our eyes to who we like working with and who we want to go above and beyond for.” The way Sue Zahner of Tastings treated us was unprofessional, rude, mean, and vindictive. Nothing could ruin our wedding, but it seemed like she was trying her best. Shame on her, and on Tastings Caterers. more

Best BarMitzvah, EVER!! 1/11/2010

We were guests this past weekend at the most wonderfully catered party by Tastings Caterers, at Temple Israel in Boston. From the moment we arrived, we were treated special.... and we were only guests!! The appetizers were unique, plentiful and passed non-stop. The kids were having so much fun with the DJ, that we could have stayed in cocktail hour for at least 2 hours! Then the food stations opened... it was a total Asian influenced station...We ate way too much at the noodle station... the Chef even new my husbands name(after 4 times up)... the flavors were right on... the presentation at the stations were amazing and whimsical.... I understand that this caterer also did the cousins BarMitzvah last year... and we were so sorry to miss that one... especially now that we have had their food!. Then when the dessert station was available... we thought that we couldn't eat another item... but those Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes, the Ooey Gooey Vanilla Bites... and did I mention the cookie spoons with chocolate and raspberries? It was sinful and so worth it all at the same time. I met the owner of the business... who also acted as the photographer for the party...as they didn't hire a professional and had cameras on the tables.. but since everyone was so busy eating and dancing... she took it upon herself to use up these cameras and took hundreds of pictures for the family..... many of us guests said WOW! ,this is going above and beyond in my experiences with caterers. The parents told us that they were thrilled from the moment they tried the food and met Tastings.... good to know. We just want to be a guest at all of their catered events.... anyone out there hiring Tastings.."" please invite us!!"" They are the best.... you just can't go wrong in our book if you have them as your caterer. I hope to use them in 4 years... when we have our turn. Pros: Great food, presentation and staff Cons: party should have been 10 hours longer! more

What a find! 7/28/2009

We hired Tastings for our wedding this past July and they went above and beyond our expectations. From the minute I arrived, I felt no pressure to worry about anything. The staff was wonderful, the drinks plentiful and the food was totally amazing. My parents were so pleased and the compliments about the food and service, that we are still receiving, certainly proved that we made the right choice in this Company. I would recommend them to everyone and hopefully they will be around for many more years to come. ( maybe when we have a daughter getting married in say 30 years?!) My husband can't rave enough about the wedding cake.. no one has cakes that taste like Sue's. We can't thank them enough for all they did to create the wedding of our dreams.. Pros: Amazing Presentation, food and flavor! Cons: The heat of the day more

Ability to make anything incredible 6/20/2007

I was a guest at a wedding that this Co. catered in May at the Codman Carriage House in Lincoln, MA. It was a tribute to them for all they did to make this a special wedding for my friends.\r This Couple certainly made them work hard that day. Moving a complete restaurant into an open field for dinner. No tent, not lights and no cooking facilities. The meal was fantastic! It was hot, tasty and beautifully presented. My hat is off to them all!\r \r I do know that this bride was difficult to work with(it was hard just to be a guest with her demands), but that's the way she is. Being a ""service person"" in her real job, should have made her appreciate all the work that was being put into her wedding, but she still was ""bridzilla"" to us all.\r \r I can only attest to the great foods from cocktail hour thru the mini desserts... as they did not make the cake (which I heard was heavy and gross). I personally thanked the staff and commented to the chef how much my friends and I loved all the food and was amazed at the whole scenario.\r \r Hire them ... they are incredible\r \r Pros: wonderful food, presentation and staff Cons: I heard their cakes are amazing - next time have one of theirs at your wedding more

Amazing Cakes... great displays... what flavor!!! 7/6/2006

I just had the most incredible experience with this caterer at my friends wedding at a Botanic Garden in the Worcester area. It was one of the best meals I have ever had... and at a wedding no less!!! The appetizers were abundant... and hot... the meal was cooked without a kitchen... they grilled on site and it was truly ""melt in your mouth"" tenderloin. Then the dessert buffet was like no other... 4 differents kinds of wedding cake, warm cookies baked on site and passed with milk shots... and the finger pastries and fruit.. topped off a truly wonderful evening for us all. I know that the bride and groom were over the moon with happiness.\r \r I hope that I get to be a guest again at a Tastings party... it will be an invitation that I would never refuse.... in a million years! Pros: Great Service... spectacular food with flavor Cons: none - except that the venue was hot more

My friends and family LOVED the food and the presentations... and the desserts are the best anywhere I've ever been... and I travel alot. They took care of everything and made it the perfect event. I would recommend them to everyone over and over again more
