Didn't live up to past user reviews. Portions were small, tacos were over priced and under flavored. Service was good and the drinks were well poured. If you've got the time to...

Worth the wait! 10/11/2002

Wonderfully tasty, far-from-the-usual dishes! Although you'll likely have to wait to get a table, the wait is well worth it. And, the staff will surely keep your thirst quenched while you're waiting, too. They are closed until mid-Nov. for an expansion/renovation - I'm eagerly awaiting their re-opening! Pros: Great food, Intriguing menu, Great drinks Cons: Wait more

best ""real"" margaritas 9/9/2002

Although I must say I do like the fruity margaritas, Taqueria Nueve has the best ""real"" no flavors, original style. It's tasty and strong just like a margarita should be! Pros: Excellent drinks, Good food Cons: Long wait! more

Que sabor! 9/4/2002

My meal here was one of the very best in the year I've lived in Portland. The appetizers, entrees, and dessert sparkle with their own fresh flavors. The octupus ceviche tempts with the colorful peppers and kick of lime, the flank steak done to perfection, creamy flan. Even the rice is memorably fluffy! The margaritas taste as fresh as the food. All pleasantly served by a multi-tasking crew. The scene is lively and crowded. This is probably the first time I would have appeciated a little more decor to match the fab meal! Pros: the best food, great margarita Cons: crowded, cramped more

Simply the best. 8/22/2002

The food is always perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. The service is occasionally slow, but always friendly. The space is a bit small, but I don't want them to expand because that inevitable means a drop in food quality, and believe me, it's all about the food. Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Always busy more

Authenticity at its best 8/21/2002

Taqueria Nueve is typical of southeastern Mexico, including Veracruz and the Yucatan. The food was wonderful and real Mexican! The fish tacos made with fresh fish are delicious and affordable, and not made with fish sticks as some other Mexican joints around Portland make them. I highly recommend Nueve for an authentic experience and great food! more

Worth the wait 8/19/2002

Waiting for this food is well worth it. Portland needs more of these types of NW Mexican cuisine restaurants. more

Everything you try is good! 7/23/2002

Taqueria Nueve is way out of the way for us but that doesn't stop us from returning again and again. The jalapeno taquitos brought me back, but they no longer have them. I now usually opt for the chicken enchiladas and my husband, the fish enchiladas (different sauces, both great). The octopus cocktail appetizer is both different and delish, and don't forget to get some freshly squeezed lime-ade! Save room for dessert here- the Flan, with a hint of orange is the best I've ever had. TN is a bit more spendy than you would think but it is well worth it as the atmosphere is nice, and the food here is presented in a lovely fashion and tastes as good as it looks! Pros: Good food!, good location, clean Cons: medium expensive, very little seating, can have long lines more

The Best!! 7/12/2002

I'm not sure what the last person was talking about, we have been 6 times and the food keeps getting better and better! Maybe he is used to eating at Who Songs and Larrys. Keep up the good work guys!!! P.S. Try the octopus cocktail and the wild boar appetizers. more

Good for yuppies 6/30/2002

?Is this Mexican food, cause I don't remember getting mahi mahi for fish tacos in Baja? Tried the chicken tacos instead. They were so dry I had to add a little water from my glass. I should have been suspicious when too 'hip' waitresses seated us. For Mexican food, it's a good sign when English is the server's second language. This place is overpriced, the service lagged, and the food sucked. I guess if all you want is a ambiance this is it. Sticking to Las Seranita's on Alberta. Pros: outside seating Cons: food, price more

Taqueria with style 5/20/2002

Finally, a taqueria with atmosphere! This place is worth the wait, which is often long. Great ceviche, tacos, fish enchilada (a special, I think) and margaritas. more
