We booked a 40th birthday dinner at this restaurant for a large group of friends - weeks in advance via Open Table - we received a confirmation etc. Two days before our reservation - the restaurant called to cancel - this was really inconvenient for us and our party. So beware if you're using Open Table to book this restaurant - they are not reliable. And just to make matters worse, even after they canceled we got a reminder from Open Table about our upcoming reservation. So this goes to show that this restaurant, doesn't maintain Open Table data effectively, and has no consideration for disrupting customer plans. I was really looking forward to going to to dinner here - but if anyone asks me about the restaurant. I will not be recommending them. more

Great drinks/appetizers 8/17/2008

I went to Tanzore during the week for drinks with some friends. We stayed in the lounge area and it had a great vibe. Music was good, drinks really really good, and the appetizers were amazing. I had the Angeleno Tanzorini (something like that, I don't think I'm spelling it quite right) and it was really yummy. Pros: Great vibe, drinks Cons: limited street parking; you have to valet more

Sophisticated fun 5/6/2008

Perfect place for a date, special occasion, business dinner, or just hanging out with friends! Decor: colorful, classy, stylish - GORGEOUS!!! The designer did a fantastic job (I heard that he won some big award for it so that explains it.) Bar: 2 big screen TVs playing silent fashion shows Background music: lounge music (a la Lebanese Blond by Thievery Corporation) Cocktails at the bar: creative and unexpected. If you are a simple beer or pina-colada or apple martini kind of drinker then you won't like them. But if you are adventurous and open-minded - YUMMY!!! (They do have a nice selection of wines too.) Food: tasty and upscale. I'd call it Cali-Indian Fusion (it's definitely not your take-out Indian)! Service: very professional and courteous Entertainment: the maitre'd breaks out into Bollywood dancing every now and then - and he is actually really good! Nice fun touch! The 4 of us enjoyed every aspect of the experience and I've been telling all my other friends that they must go and give Tanzore a try! I personally can't wait to go back again, even if just for a drink at the bar! Pros: Ambiance, cocktails, food, service Cons: N/A more

Hottest indian food in L.A. 4/12/2008

First of all, the food is a bit pricey but ITS L.A. FOR GOD SAKE!!! They are all pricey. To me, its worth it. I find it really hard to find a good indian restaurant in L.A. The food is amazing, amazing, amazing! So good. I've been here a few times and I've tried something new each time I loved it. One night we were there they had some Bollywood dancers in the dining room- how fun!! The bar is so beautiful with large projecters of Bollywood movies rolling. The pomegranite mojito is YUMMY. Friendly staff too. more

If you think you are getting complimentary bread like other resturants, think again. Take a look at your bill and you will know very not so $8.00 a basket. I would suggest keep stepping. OVER-RATED AND OVER-PRICED! 4/4/2008

FIRST! I want to know who these people are, according to LA Magazine's article on Best 75 restaurants, Tanzore being 1 of them, who want 'small plates.' As a petite, athletic foodie, I diet 90% of my life. When I go out to eat, I want to eat. I don't want a small plate of anything, especially when I'm paying the kind of prices this place charges! more

OVER-RATED AND OVER-PRICED! 4/3/2008

While it's true the decor is fabulous, and we were welcomed by a friendly Maitre d', and our waitress was sweet, I can't say anything other than how expensive it was for such mediocre food! They charge for EVERYTHING they put on your table (sans the plates & utensils). Our bill was $103 with tax: 1 appetizer ($15), a basket of assorted but flavorless naan ($5), assorted chutneys ($5), chicken saag ($18), Chicken Tikka Makhani ($18), assorted sorbets ($8), Tanzortini ($15) and another fancy drink ($11). The ingredients were fresh but everything was bland. The Tiger prawns (3) appetizer ("marinated in roasted chickpea flour, carom seeds, yogurt and oven roasted vegetables") was spicy yet flavorless which I realize seems contradictory; however, the veggies were very good. The naan, as I said, was flavorless, as was 1 of the 3 chutneys, and my friend, who rarely agrees with me, agreed with me. Since I don't eat dairy or fish, I was told there's nothing on the menu I could have! I asked if they could make me chicken saag with oil instead of butter and they were accommodating except that despite asking for spicy, it was bland. And flavorless. I didn't taste my friend's Chicken Tikka but he seemed to like it. I really wanted to like this place. I wanted to like it because I'm offended by hip LA restaurants that don't deliver and only disappoint. And I wanted to be wrong. Except I wasn't. more

bad service 2/10/2008

my friends and i were looking to this birthday dinner the whole week but soon after we were seated it was apparent we would be dissapointed. we ordered our cocktails as soon as we were seated but it took nearly 25 minutes for them to arrive-well after the appetizers were served!! we decided to order for the table and share different food so we ordered 2 each of the lamb, prawns, sea bass and chicken tikka masala. we were told food is genereally mild unless ordered spicy-we ordered 1 of the fish spicy (at no time did our waiter advise againt that). big mistake! both bass dishes were so spicy all you could taste was bitterness. so we complained to the waiter and asked for a milder order. very soon a frowning managered appeared at our table acting like an inquistor--pointing his finger and demanding ""but did you order it spicy?"" time and time again refusing to accomodate us. needless to say this put a damper on our mood and we didnt stay for tea or desserts. although the food was otherwise ok, it was highly overpriced and the servie and managment were so terrible that i would never go back. Cons: bad service, overpriced more
