Tandoori Oven

The Chicken Marsala is at most decent, it doesn't have the full creamy/thicker taste of authentic Indian marsala, I guess the Naan makes up for it because it serves as a good dipping agent. They have good Chicken wraps and the cucumber salad doesn't always taste fresh. For the price you pay for your entree you expect more flavor and/or quantity. Interesting ambiance: indian flare and decor and there's always some ethnic music in the background, not necessarily Indian music but more just ""international."" Tandoori Oven was a success when it first opened 3 years ago because it was a new trendy indian eatery but now the hype has dulled down and it leaves patrons asking for more. Considering I'm on a student budget, the entrees are more on the pricey side. One HUGE plus is that Tandoori Oven is the only Indian restaurant that I have found that serves alcohol (wine and beer), which really compliments the spicy/sweet tastes of Indian food. If anyone else has found an Indian joint that serves up booze, let me know. I return to Tandoori Oven not because I love the food but because of it's convenient location in the heart of downtown Los Gatos. Quick is what this place is about, NOT good food. It use to be good at one time I remember but it has gone down hill. The rice we had was hard from sitting out, the naan was not toasted nor warm, the Chicken Masala was so Spicy we couldn't eat it. Yet we ordered mild. Nice nouveau indian restaurant for quick, cheap eats. You order at the counter and get your food quickly. Chicken tika masala is a must. Ample food for the price and downtown Los Gatos is always a nice backdrop to any dining experience. Pros: Value Cons: Not authentic more

A was a bit confused by this being voted the top indian restaurant in the valley, yet having a rating of only 5.3. Perhaps it was once good but has gone downhill, because I must agree with the rating. The atmosphere was very fake, not quite trendy, not quite traditional indian, not quite sit down, not quite fast food, pretty much a mess. The food was awful, tasted old and possibly microwaved. With all the good indian food in the bay area, this place can be easily passed. more

Not a good indian eat out, rude staff, longer wait time and manager didn't seem to care about the complaint made by us regarding the food. My chicken wrap came with the half grill chicken was so gross. more

Never been a fan of Indian food, but enough people have raved about this particualr place, I decided to check it out after it won Best of Citysearch. A totally different menu from ""normal"" Indian restaurants and a very different vibe. There was a lot of healthy food on the menu incl may fresh salads. We had a Chicken Tikka Msala and Paneer Salad, both of which were incredibly tasty and huge portions. Total bill with 2 beers, tax and tip ( counter service, I tipped 10%) less than $30. Ordered a lamb curry and a chicken curry both wth naan. The curries pretty much tasted the same except the meat was different. The curry sauce itself was sub-par and the naan was terrible, and that is usually my favorite part. Bad naan will always ruin an indian meal. I would recommend the Chcken Tikka Massala with naan bread. Awesome stuff! I am a fan of good Indian cuisine. After yesterday I am definitely a fan of Tandoori Oven. The food is awesome, I recommend this place to first timers and Indian food lovers. Great value for delicious fresh food. more

It's not indian, it;s not American, it's not mexican... it's some horrible fusionsy experemnt with awful food. We've actually tried similar places with similar menus that still serve good indian food, this is in insult to customers and I don;t see this place being around much longer! Pros: NOTHING more

My wife and I love Indian food and were excited about finding a local spot but we have now had three horrendous visits to the tandoori oven. The food is never brought out together or in any specific order, the staff doesn't even seem to know what half the items are. And the food is flavorless, like food you would find in a frozen food section at whole foods. How can people actually recommend this restaurant. I am quite fond of INdian food, any ethnic food for that matter, but this meal was crap, and the emplyees are clueless. I will never return. more

My wife literally dragged me to Tandoori Oven, I have never liked Indian food or restaurants. Generally I have found Indian food to be oily, very hot and with mystery meat being the most common ingredient. I've noticed before that the place is always packed, which is a good sign. There wasn't any of that immensely irritating Indian folk music playing, the music sounded like some kind of reggae/hip hop fusion- I'm probably too old to figure out what that is/was. We ordered a Chicken Tikka and a Lamb Vindaloo, which they warned me was failry spicy, 2 beers and a mango lassi. I don't know how people can actually recommend this place. The food is awful, tastes like frozen dinners I got from grocery stores when I lived in London, except not as good. The service sucks, they act like every request is an unwanted burden. Even the naan isn't fresh despite the tandoor oven in plain view. I was very disappointed with the tandoori oven. I love Indian food, eat it regularly for lunch in berkeley where there are quite a few nice places. The food here not only lacks authenticity, but is just plain bad. As stated by another ""reviewer"", the menu is good although conspicuously familiar, but the food and service need work. My boyfriend and I always get the Chicken Tikka Masala everytime we go there, which is phenomenal! The a la carte order comes with either rice or naan, and this is the best naan I have had... so soft and fluffy! I've also tried the Salmon Tikka before (it's offered as a daily special occasionally) and it is also fabulous! Good sized portions and the prices are fair. This seems to be a knock-off of a popular restaurant chain. They have the same menu and I think they tried to use the same name originally and were caught?
