A landmark diner, 50 yrs and going strong 6/9/2009

One thing about Tally's is that you'll always get you food cooked to perfection. (Stay away from the Meatloaf though). The only thing is, I feel the time has come to revampt the menu. They still offer the same half dozen dinner entrees after all this time. I've got to the point that I'm tired of their selection and have had to look for another place to eat with different food, like Mimi's Cafe. The should definately keep their Turkey dinner but let's dump the Liver and Onions and either improve the pork chops or get rid of them too. Great place for breakfast as the eggs are always cooked just right and their cinamon buns are fantastic! So, please Tally Rand, please consider a menu revamp and give us loyal customers something new to choose from. Pros: Food always cooked just right Cons: Stale menu selection more

Landmark Burbank Coffee Shop/Diner 11/5/2007

I have been eating here since the early 60;s. To keep things short and sweet, the quality of the food served here is always consistant and properly cooked. They probably cook their eggs better than any of the other coffee shops in town. Yes this is a big deal with me, and they do it right. I read the other reviews before writing my own and I just can't believe some of the stupid reasons that people make bad judgements against this establishment like when they decided to close a bit early because their business happens to be really slow. Maybe people shouldn't wait until the last minute to go out and eat. Why would you take your family out to dinner that late anyway? About the only two things I feel somewhat negative about are, their menu selection is somewhat limited and their prices on some meals are a bit pricey for what you get. $12 for a turkey dinner is a bit steep considering there probably wasn't more than a couple of tablespoons worth of stuffing under the turkey slices and their steak dinner is as expensive as a fancy steak house. But, their breakfasts are probably about the best in town. You can't really go wrong but a revamped menu would be nice for a change. The warm sourdough bread and/or their muffins are always a plus! Pros: consistantly good food, friendly staff with good service Cons: somewhat pricey, small menu more

Great Diner! 11/3/2007

One of the best diners I've found in all of LA. Great breakfasts (particulary love the chilli hash), and great fresh-roasted turkey (either as a dinner or open-faced turkey sandwich). Drove past it for years, but once I went in have conistently come back again and again every couple weeks. more

THE TRUTH.... 6/24/2007

You can depend upon this place for a good meal. Not great, not worth driving out of your way for..but solid. Fresh ingredients, good breakfasts, many items baked on the premises. Many like the fact that fresh turkey is served daily. The burgers are less than stellar. Family owned it has it quirks. Usually friendly but they can have their "moments" as well. I especially like their blackened salmon dinner. For fast service on a crowded day sit at the counter. This place is better than the other coffee shops in the area. more

You people are crazy giving Tallyrand a bad review. I'm from the East coast and was so excited to finally find a diner that served great food and had a staff that was actually excited to serve you. The serving staff for breakfast on the weekends, Marty, Mindy and Michelle are amazing! If you go for breakfast you must try one of their sensational breakfast burritos. My favorite is the King Burrito. Thanks Tally, for making my hungover mornings just a little easier. more

Question: How many Tallyrand employees does it take to slip a closed sign up in the window when you start walking towards the door during their business hours? Answer: Only one person needed. On Tueday of this week, at 9:30 in the pm, my family and I decide to go to one of our favorite restaurants, Tallyrand. As we parked, and started to head to the entrance, an employee in a white shirt quickly slipped the closed sign into the window, right in front of us. Since we were close enough to view on the sign that on Tuesday nights, Tallyrand closes at 10pm, not 9:30pm, you can imagine how we would feel. Once we got back into our car, to locate a place that would be interested in our business, I called Tallyrand and asked when they close. The employee on the phone indicated that Tallyrand had already closed for the evening. I replied that the sign said 10pm. The employee responded that the restaurant had been empty for an hour, where as you could clearly see people still sitting at tables. At that point I requested to speak with the owner, who was not in that evening. Tallyrand has lost yet another loyal patron. Pros: Great Food Cons: Terrible Customer Service more

I'm sure it would have been great, if they hadn't closed early. 9/26/2006

I had heard some great things about the price, decent food, friendly servers, etc, so we decided to check it out on a Tuesday night. We did our homework, checked online, and everything said they closed at 10pm. We pulled into the parking lot at 9:30, and much to our dismay an employee ran to the door and turned the OPEN sign to CLOSED. I called them directly, and asked about the hours of operation. The fellow on the other line stated that they hadn't had anyone come in for an hour, so they were closing early. How awful that you would lose a paying customer just because your employees aren't in a working mood. more

A Burbank standard with Soccer Mom's and their kids, grandparents and their kids, softball dad's and their kids - get the point. I went to this place twice - both times I didn't enjoy the meal because there were so many little kids around. Crowded, noisy - kind of like a fast-food joint but without the fast service. The food was average - nothing to write home about. I could go the the freezer section at the store, buy any TV dinner and end up with something comparable (and save myself some loot). Pros: family oriented I guess Cons: everything else more

Grand ol' Tallyrand 6/8/2004

This place is so comfy on a hungover morning or a sneak-a-way work lunch. We always sit in the bar; it's like someone's basement rec room. Great fries, great breakfast (If you get the chili hash, add an egg), and I'm a SUCKER for the french dip: Thinly sliced, tender tri-tip (may be processed, and it's yummy), on a crunchy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside roll. And tasty homemade muffins to boot! Everything is pretty darn good, and it's a lot like home, but you don't have to do the dishes. Check it out. Pros: food, comfort, price Cons: , sometimes seating more
