Best

HAVING LIVED IN ENGLAND WHERE THERE IS AN INDIAN RESTAURANT ON EVERY CORNER, TAJ INDIA RATES RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BEST. I WILL SAY IT'S THE BEST IN TOWN, CONSISTENTLY VAST MEN...

Worst

I remember eating at Taj at their previous location and being pleased. The food was good and the staff was nice. We love Indian food but they're losing out to their competition ...

New location not so good... 6/19/2011

I remember eating at Taj at their previous location and being pleased. The food was good and the staff was nice. We love Indian food but they're losing out to their competition now. The new location is the dead zone... always seems empty. We tried the buffet once and it lacked freshness. I think the food had been under the heat lamps too long. The food had been good but sat too long. Last time we went we left before ordering. We were the only ones there and our table and dishes didn't look overly clean. Our waitress was sort of nonexistent so we ended up leaving. It was a little strange - It used to be great and could be again but not sure what is going on there now. more

WONDERFUL RESTAURANT 5/22/2011

Worst Indian Food I have ever had 4/25/2011

I drive by Taj India frequently, and I absolutely love Indian food. Driving by you can tell the decor is bad, so I figured I would try their takeout. We ordered the vegetable masala, aloo gobi, and a side of the dal. The vegetables looked as if they had spent the day on the buffet. After a few bites, we ended up putting the food in the trash, and cooked our own dinner. I will never go back. more

Buffet 3/7/2010

The buffet was great! Will be back Pros: Low price more

Sunday Buffet 2/4/2009

I liked the Sunday buffet beause it was awesome. They had some dish in their chicken selection and it was worth the spiciness (can't remember what its called). Also the Aloo Gobi is a must. And to top it all up, gotta have the strawberry lassi. Pros: Low price, plenty of parking, good food more

A good restaurant unfortunately in decline 1/17/2009

Taj India is one of Salt Lake's older Indian Restaurants. Originally located in mid downtown, they were forced to move when a fire struck their building. They relocated to a place that had a history of failed restaurants because it was a bit too tucked away to get the attention needed. Now they've moved to a rather rundown facility that is not nearly as nice as their competition. Apparently, they don't have the funds or freedom to make the needed upgrades. Pros: Good food when made fresh. Cons: Run down facility. Seemingly re-heated food. more

Not the best, but definitely not the worst! 9/10/2007

There are quite a few Indian restaurants in the Salt Lake valley these days and some of them are a bit dodgey! Taj India is pretty safe. I first decided to try it because it's much more convenient to my house than my favorite Indian restaurant. Pros: Good Rice, Speedy Service Cons: Cold Food, Poor Communication more

Great Food/Expensive/Poor Atmosphere 2/22/2007

This place is spacious & clean, although not the best ambience. The service was good. The food is great but expensive for Indian. The lunch buffet is now $12! Who eats that much for lunch? more

Not child friendly? We beg to differ! 10/12/2006

We found an inviting atmosphere and a wonderful children's menu of traditional yet kid-friendly food served in a delightful tea-party style. Each portion was presented in its own little cup or saucer and the whole affair was spread out on an important looking platter. It was delivered promptly - well before the big people's food was ready, what a relief! more

Food okay, but didn't excite 10/10/2006

Food was decent, but it didn't excite me. It wasn't as flavorful as other Indian restaurants I've visited in the valley. My Indian food craving for the day wasn't fully satisfied. Pros: Nice decor and very clean Cons: Food was average more

Decent flavor indian food. 8/6/2006

Flavor of food was supurb. I went in for the lunch buffet today. I wanted food to go. I was handed a box, and sent to pick it out. They didn't have nan. the price was a bit much for the amount of food that fits in the go container. I would rate the raita and chutney as perfect. the chicken curry was excellent, but the service was wierd, and I had to guess as to what to do. I wasn't offered or directed toward beverage location. Today was 7 aug 06. I will have to try the dinner to see if it improves. Pros: food flavor supurb. Cons: buffet for lunch is confusing. more

A very pleasant surprise 5/1/2006

This little ""hole in the wall"" in downtown Salt Lake has some of the best Indian food I have sampled outside of London (I've not been to India). Prices are almost unfairly modest - - I got a buffet lunch for $6.50. The vegetable dishes were especially good and there was plenty of tasty, homemade Nan to compliment. The chicken tika masala was tasty, but it was a bit dry having been on a buffet chaffing dish for a time before I arrived. Everything tasted homemade with attention to detail, all the way down to the yogurt. I'll be back for dinner!! Pros: Excellent Food Cons: Small and cramped more

The Taj 4/26/2006

Loved the dinner buffet =) Pros: good food, friendly service more

Good Stuff! 11/2/2005

We love Taj! It is very good food and the portions are reasonable. The owners are there almost every night. It is fun to talk with them. Try the Chicken Tikka Masala or the Sag Vindaloo. You won't regret it. We travel up there from UT County to eat there. Our friends from India say it is the best and most authentic food in the state of Utah. They are the ones who introduced us to the restaurant and it's owners. more

Currylicious! 7/21/2005

Excellent experiene - exceptionally good curry dishes served up by a friendly and funny indian waiter. We had two chicken curry dishes which came with rice and naan and were impressed with how fresh and tasty it was! I'll be back... more

Great Curry, Great Value 10/21/2004

Taj is one of the best Indian restaurants in the valley and definitely the least expensive. The family is exceptionally friendly and helpful and the food is consistently good. I usually eat dinner take-out but the lunch buffet is the best in town. Pros: Great Curry, Inexpensive, Family Owned Cons: , too bright for dinner more

Usually good-- But---- 10/8/2002

Utter disappointment! We have gone to the Taj a ton of times, but our last visit was so disappointing. We were seated with our menus and then.... we sat and sat. The waitress took a long long time to take our order, but kept glaring at us prior, and then our $11 Chicken Tikka had 11 itty bitty pieces of chicken. Usually, they are really great, but maybe we just hit an off night. Hopefully, it will be better next time, unfortunately, it might be a long long time until next. :( moe more

Four words: I LOVE THIS PLACE! My co-worker and I would treat ourselves to a staff lunch on Friday's. We started trying new places every week, and then all of the sudden, we started trying only Indian food places every week. Without fail, every time we agreed that Taj India was the best. We tried about 4 places downtown and in the end, it was Taj India that we were going to EVERY Friday. Their lunch buffet is my favorite thing on this planet. It is $7.50 (a little pricey for me) but I just load up on everything and enjoy every mouth-watering bite. I highly recommend them!! All smiles here! more
