Well I'm back down in Miami for work and went to Taco Rico. I'm from Miami and have been going to this place for years. I had the fish tacos which are made with Dolphin (aka - Mahi Mahi for the people who don't know the difference between the fish and the mammal). The fish had a strong smell and taste which should not be the case with this type of meat. The spinach-mushroom quesadilla was pretty good as was the chicken and beef tacos. From a Miami standpoint this is good Mexican food and they have a buritto the size of your forearm for $9.00. Overall it's dependable tasty food at a great price. more

It's alright, everything I got was a little too greasy though, not very flavorful either. more

I was really disappointed when I ate there. I had only heard good things so I was expecting a lot more than what I got. If it weren't my understanding nature, I wouldn't go back nor recommend it to anyone.\r \r The plates lacked flavor and were very dull. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was more tortilla than chicken and didn't taste like anything. The rice and beans didn't have much flavor either. I tasted their chicken enchilada and wasn't impressed. \r \r It's kind of like a fast food joint so you can really judge their service because there isn't any. Theres just a food runner.\r \r I've heard fairly good things and from the reviews I've read I seem to have had a different experience than most. Maybe I caught them on an off day. i guess i'll just have to give them a second chance to redeem themselves one of these days. more

If you want plain old Mexican food without a bunch of silly cuisine nouvelle nonsense in it, you'll like Taco Rico. But be prepared. It's about as elegant as Burger King, and it's not very clean. more

Taco Rico isn't the best Mexican you'll find, but it certainly isn't the worst either. Ingredients are fresh, but the flavor profiles could use a little boost. The steak tacos are a little on the greasy side, but it's nothing a little fresh lime and cilantro couldn't improve upon; the pork tacos are a little blande, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little hot sauce. \r \r Prices are a little high for fast food Mexican, but the portions are generous and they've got great lunch specials. The three taco lunch platter costs about $6 and comes with all the ecoutrements... refried beans, rice, chips and salsa. more

No matter what burrito you order here (wet or dry) it will be good. I reccommend this resturaunt to burrito lovers. more

Slightly better than Taco Bell 1/22/2011

My husband and I went to Taco Rico because a friend told me it was the best Mexican food around. We went there over 7 months ago, with an open mind looking forward to some good authentic Mexican. We ordered quite a few different items to share so we could see what we liked for the next time as well to get an idea of how good they were. We were very disappointed. The food was bland. We find more spice from Taco bell and that is sad. The service was lack luster but that sadly is more a Miami issue than just Taco Rico. Needless to say we were disappointed. So we go back to Taco bell. The food is cheaper, faster and much more flavorful. Sad because in Orlando, Utah, California, Arizona, Louisiana and New york I have been able to find amazing Mexican but Miami ... not so much. more

Used to like this place, but last couple times meat has gotten smaller and harder, greasier, and the cheese here always tastes weird, like imitation cheese. Good food for late night drinkers, not good for someone wanting real Mexican food. Go to Rinconcito Mexicano on 8th for that. more

Worst Customer Service 9/30/2010

I go to Taco Rico fairly often, but this will definitely change after the experience I had tonight. I ordered a wet burrito, but they messed up the order and brought me a normal burrito instead. I told them that I had ordered a wet burrito, and they apologized and said they would be right back. The waiter came back a few minutes later and told me that they hadn't charged me for a wet burrito, but a normal burrito instead, so it would be an extra $1.50. I followed him inside and told the cashier that this was ridiculous. At first he tried to accuse me of not saying that I wanted a wet burrito, but then relented and told me that he had not heard me. I then had to pay $1.50 due to the fact that they could not get a simple order right. With customer service like this, they won't be in business much longer... more

NIGHTMARE! 5/11/2010

Im not much of a review kind a person, but I HAD TO write one on these guys because I gave them a few tries and its always BAD! First, the place is always dirty, afraid to see what the kitchen looks like! But the service is absolutely terrible. Their excuse it sorry, but we're really busy. Then, hey, how about hiring? We waited 45 minutes for a burrito lunch special with my toddler and the manager would not even attend to us when we asked to speak with him. They are rude, unprofessional and dirty. The salsa bowls were empty and dried up and the chips were soggy. My overall experience was terrible. Would not eat there again if the food was free. DO NO RECOMMEND! Pros: Prices Cons: TOO MANY TO LIST! more

Good, good food. Really nice staff. Nothing fancy about the place, but good food at a great place. I definitely recommend. more

DO NOT EVER ORDER DELIVERY 4/26/2010

Food is decent only because your only other local option is Taco Bell. Tex Mex (which was next door and the competition was better). These people take advantage because they think they are the only family run mexican place but their food tastes like crap compared to places in the beach. Order Baja Fresh to save u the hastle. Pros: Decent food because there are no other mexican restaraunts Cons: TERRIBLE DELIVERY 1 HOUR MIN. WAIT WHEN THEY SAY 30 min more

Some of the best Mexican to be had in Miami 4/25/2010

Taco Rico definitely offers some of the best Mexican in Miami. I generally go with the chicken fajitas (a LOT of food!), but the quesadillas, burritos, etc. are all tasty as well. They do have a special $0.79 (or something like that) ground beef taco deal one day a week, but I'd recommend staying away from that because the ground beef really isn't that good. FWIW, you could definitely split the chicken fajitas with a friend and have plenty for lunch. Oh, and they make their own toritilla chips, which are quite tasty. For you South Beach people, they have a location at 16th and Alton as well, which is every bit as good as the Dixie Highway address. Pros: Solid food, very cheap Cons: I suppose it could always be better :) more

it is in a random strip mall, there is nothing glamorous about the sidewalk seating with a lovely view of the parking lot and US-1, but the food is incredibly good. the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get, the staff is helpful and friendly, and you leave full, satisfied and with plans to return very soon. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 3/2/2010

This place doesn't look like much, and I was skeptical at first, but it has really amazing Mexican food, plain and simple. I love it. more

Food was terrible, burnt fish tacos and salsa not really fresh. more

Awesome 6/15/2009

Place is cheap and a great buck for your buck. While you do have to order at the front, you do not have to wait there and they will bring it to your table where you will already be snacking on GREAT bottomless tortilla chips. You get unlimited refills. I'm a burito guy, so I recommend getting the Ultra-steak burrito (it is twice the size of a burrito you'd get at chipotle). Pros: Ultra burrito, bottomless chips, service without service Cons: Parking more

Great food and friendly staff. Not a fancy place but you will love the food! more

LOVE IT!!! 1/2/2009

Taco Rico is where my now finance' took me on one of our first dates, the food was excellant and the atmosphere cool and quirky and the people who worked there couldn't be nicer. Now over a year later, we still come to Taco Rico, about twice a month, even though it is a 30-40 minute drive for us now. The food and service continues to be consistantly great, especially the wet California burrito and the fajitas. We always get to sit at ""our table"" (last one in the back in the corner) and have alittle romantic evening with some great food and fun atmosphere. Pros: Consistantly great food, inexpensive Cons: Have to go outback of restaurant to use seperate restroom more
