Poor quality food 7/29/2008

My wife and I went to Twokoi for the first time on a Tuesday evening. The location and decor is good. As for the service, I would say its neither good nor bad, just average. However, the food is poor. The preparation of the food was -- how do I say -- cheap. Many of the internal ingredients of our rolls were ""pureed."" Additionally, the ingredients used did not seem to be the freshest. Moreover, many of the ingredients used did not complement one another. Lastly, some of the ingredients simply overpowered the rest of the ingredients used. Cons: Food more

Sensational Sushi and Sake 1/3/2008

One of the finest and most innovative restaurants for sushi ideas that I've ever experienced. I was only in town for a few days, heard about the restaurant and it fit my schedule perfectly. The sake menu was amazing. It's its own clever creation with a rich list of tastes and a way to pick the right variety to suite my own particular interests. I really appreciated the creativity of the menu, the sushi experience and the sake. It's one of the best and most variable selections that I've ever had in a Japanese restaurant. I didn't want to have anything else the rest of the weekend because I just wanted to let the sensory taste experience linger. I say try it, well worth you're while. (and the staff are darling!!) more

Great Sushi 11/22/2007

I had the Udon and I think it was probably the best I have ever had and I've had a lot. My salmon roe sushi was superb. I had a Japanese guest with me who felt the food was authentic and what he would expect in Tokyo. The one complaint was the sauce on the donkatsu--I think it was an attempt at fusion of some kind strange lumpy barbecue sauce. It was shame too because the meat was perfection; it was tender, thick and juicy but then the sauce happened! Our 3 types of sushi were all terrific and this where i will go for sushi. Pros: Ambience, wonderful food Cons: took awhile to get food and my dish arrived long after my guest more

twokoi should be named toolongofawait 5/25/2007

I had such high hopes for this restaurant. Great downtown location next to an art store with a view of the art museum virtually across the street. Interior decor looks more like a place you'd find in Belltown or the U. District instead of Tacoma. Somewhat easier parking than Fujiya. But that's where my hopes are dashed. Starting with the waitresses, chefs, and management everything goes downhill. I've been to Twokoi two or three times now. Each time the place was somewhat slow with only two or three tables (max) occupied. That's including my table. The first time, we had this waitress. Chubby. Had a flower in her hair. A big flower. Lots of makeup. She took our order. And disappeared. For a long time. No drinks. Nothing. Finally, she meandered out of the kitchen and we flagged her down. She brought our drinks. But then we waited. And waited. And waited for our food. Starting with appetizers. Our sushi came out. But no appetizer. We asked her about that. She said, ""Oh, it didn't come out?"" Pros: great location, stylish interior Cons: service is horrible despite virtually no customers and makes the average food seem REALLY not worth the trouble more

Great new Japanese restaurant! 4/16/2007

TWOKOI restaurant has a real comfortable feel! I ate dinner with some friends and had everything from traditional sashimi to an incredibly presented spicy tuna dish (I would call it ""decorated fusion style!""). They also have a great sake menu that my friends and I enjoyed .. and their bar is full service! I know I am going back. Pros: Great feel and great food! more

The Worst Front House Service 1/21/2007

As avid sushi fans we were anticipating something special with the newly launched TwoKoi. Pros: location and decor Cons: service, lack of professionalism, poorly managed front house, more
