If you're looking for a Thai place that's open on a Sunday, look the other way. I \r went to Thai Basil, against my better judgment, mostly because it's difficult to find a \r Thai restaurant open on Sundays...let's just say I won't make that mistake again. \r The food was definitely something to write home about -- but only to warn you to stay \r away. The 'curries' we tried that day were subpar, and had none of the flavors you would\r expect from a Thai restaurant. Much to their downfall, I'm not sure which was worse, the \r food or the service. After being seated, as we prepared to order our food, we were asked \r to relocate to another side of the restaurant, which of course was no big deal to me. The \r waitress forgot to bring out certain of the items we had requested, so she's not well trained...\r again, i really didn't expect the type of service you get at America's, so that too was of no real \r consequence...what did us in was the manager's attitude when I politely asked if I could \r send back a curry dish and order something else (for the sight and taste of the dish was \r something I would be embarrassed to serve my house guests, and i'm no Top Chef). Basically\r this just means they've got the wrong people cooking in the back, and they need to work on \r customer service. Would I go back ? Not a chance. Cons: Food, Service more

I consider myself a Red Curry connoisseur. Seeking out great Thai restaurants all over the greater Houston area is a literally fulfilling hobby of mine. This was not my first trip to Thai Basil, while it was never one of my favorites, I never had any major complaints 'til now. My party and I ordered a few dishes to share. One was Red Curry Chicken. As soon as it came out we new something wasn't quite right. It looked like extra thick and chunky potato soup sprinkled with paprika for color. So what? My party and I are adventurous eaters so we three each took a small spoonful to taste. Lets just say, sometimes you should just take things at face value. It not only looked like potato soup but it tasted like they popped open a can of Campbell's cream of potato and threw in some small slivers of chicken, great big chunks of carrots and zucchini. I have never sent anything back to the kitchen in my life but this was disgusting. We politely asked to send it back, explaining that it just didn't taste anything like red curry and we would be happy to order another dish. Our waitress came back a few minutes later and said that the manager could not credit us at all for the dish because we ate more than half. Not only was that untrue, it was insulting. Its not about the money, we were more than willing to spend the difference on a new dish but the manager was not concerned with retaining long term customers, he was only interested in making a quick buck. I don't believe in making a scene or putting on a show for the other customers. We calmly asked to speak with the manager. The manager came to our table and we tried to explain our dining experience, ofcourse it was all to no avail since his English was worse than his chef's Red Curry! more

This place has great lunch specials that are very filling. The service is average. I would definitely recommend for those who like curried based dishes. Pros: food Cons: service more

We thought Thai food is only spicy until we came to this restaurant. The Thai food here has a lot of variety and the food the manager recommended to us were delicious. Plus the very clean and comfortable environment, we enjoyed our time there. Highly recommended. more

We took our entire family to Thai Basil. It was great, very kid friendly and great food. They have remodeled the restaurant and it looks great. I had the Koon Gra Pow ""excuse my spelling"". I took my wife to this place one afternoon and it was simply the best Thai place in Sugarland by far. While their CALAMARI was mediocre albeit lightly battered and goes very well with chili plum sauce, I can not say the same for the PAD THAI and the the PAD GRAPOW. It was one of the tastiest Pad Thai I've ever had. The rice noodles were cooked (blanched) to perfection, not gummy. The spice on the sauce is not too overpowering and plenty of grounded peanut instead of a smidegon on the topping. The PAD GRAPOW is equally tasty. It's a beef sauteed in garlic, onions, Thai pepper, and Thai basil (GRAPOW). The basil is very aromatic that it gives the dish a light, refreshing and clean taste. Simply the best.
