Last year we had had some trouble with our mail and a couple payments as well as other mail were lost. A couple months went by before we were notified that the payments hadn't been received which allowed late fees to incur. I could prove that the checks had been written but that didn't help because they had never been cashed. My husband spoke to them about this and they agreed to wave the late fees. Yet the account statement that I received a months later showed that they had not removed the late fees rather they had applied the double payment that they had received that month to the late fees that they supposedly had removed instead of applying it to the loan.
Then this year I missed a payment and to make up for it the next month I sent extra money to cover half of the missed payment. When speaking to the account manager Mr. Tucker I explained to him what I had done and that I would send the balance of the missing payment and late fees with the next months payment. He said that that would be fine. A few months later Mr. Tucker calls me to say that I was past due on the account and when I argued the fact with him he then informs me that because of the way their system is set up that any money owed needed to be paid in full and that the extra money I had sent with my payments was not applied to the amount past due but rather the principal so I was in perpetually behind even though I thought the account was caught up.
I have NEVER heard of a lender with this practice. Normally payments are applied to past due amounts before they are applied to the principal. Even so I should have been informed of this policy when I had spoken to Mr. Tucker several months prior.
I wanted to make a formal complaint about this to the owner but was informed that he does not work at the store and if i have a problem I need to take it up with Mr. Tucker, unfortunately Mr. Tucker is the problem.
This situation has not been resolved at the moment I will update when it is.
